Is really cute and at times emotional. I binged it last night and give it 5 thumbs up.
Never Have I Ever on Netflix

You had me interested until '5 thumbs up'. It was supposed to be cute? It's cloying. Stop.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 30, 2020 7:51 PM |
Got thru 5 min. No thank you.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 30, 2020 7:53 PM |
In my defense I've also watched a lot Simpson's r1. The guy who plays her dad is so hot. Her half Japanese love interest is fine too.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 30, 2020 8:47 PM |
Should've led with the picture at R3 in the OP. It's a great show. Really well done.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | May 1, 2020 2:19 PM |
good show with some nice eye candy
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 6, 2020 1:23 AM |
Great show. Mindy Kaling has always had a knack for finding good eye candy too.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 6, 2020 10:40 PM |
Are there any gay characters in it?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | May 6, 2020 11:32 PM |
r7 there are
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 6, 2020 11:41 PM |
I just saw a few episodes of this and really liked it. Entertaining fluff. I have to admit that I thought the idea of John McEnroe narrating sounded a little strange, but it works.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 7, 2020 4:33 AM |
He's a great narrator!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 7, 2020 4:43 AM |
I love when he says "Oh shit" when something surprising happens. I liked the episode that Andy Samburg narrated too. It's just a good little show
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 8, 2020 2:44 PM |
I thought it was really clever.
But I could have done without the John McEnroe gimmick.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 8, 2020 2:52 PM |
I throughly enjoyed it. And Mindy seemed really nice (although she said she has a horrible temper) in her Fresh Air interview.
But has Mindy ever written anything where she (or her surrogate, as here) ever wind up with an Indian guy?
Everything she does seems to be wish-fulfillment that hotter white guys will be knocking each other out of the way to date her.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 8, 2020 2:55 PM |
I speed-watched it last night because Mike Kasnoff II played the neighbor in two episodes. I mostly stayed for the Jordan Catalano scenes. Seeing Mindy go Blair Waldorf-lite was the least fun part.
Which dick will she pick?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 8, 2020 3:06 PM |
I enjoyed it.
And Sendhil Ramamurthy, Devi's father is gorgeous. Also, Darren Barnett, who plays Devi's love interest, is also very aesthetically pleasing.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 8, 2020 3:06 PM |
agreed r15 but I liked Ben and Kamala's BF and arranged guy much better looking
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 8, 2020 3:10 PM |
The dad, is so fucking hot. What else has he been in? The mom is a great actress, her being a dermatologist rings so true
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 8, 2020 3:35 PM |
r17
he was Kelly's doctor husband on the office... that's where I knew him from
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 8, 2020 4:02 PM |
R16. Oh, god yes. I forgot about him! He was indeed very attractive. I'd take all three lol
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 8, 2020 4:16 PM |
The actress playing the mom is really great.
The actress playing the cute relative . . . not quite as much.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 8, 2020 4:34 PM |
I love the actress who plays Devi -- what a fun role.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 9, 2020 10:23 PM |
I think the guy playing "the hottest guy in school" was miscast.
He is no Jordan Catalano.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 9, 2020 10:35 PM |
R22, in high school, I would have been more attracted to Ben rather than Paxton.
Ramona Young sure gets around these days. It seems like she's everywhere playing the quirky best friend.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 9, 2020 10:43 PM |
I finished the whole season and it already left me wanting a Season 2!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 16, 2020 6:22 AM |
Very fun. The Dad played a shady CIA agent in Covert Affairs and is a baddie on CW's The Flash.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 16, 2020 7:43 AM |
Of course the only gay character is a flamboyant walking stereotype again, like she did with Champions. Mindy Kaling loves to stereotype gay men doesn't she?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 16, 2020 8:58 AM |
Mindy does broad comedy. She makes fun of everybody including the gays. The only one she doesn't make fun of? The Down syndrome sister of the hottie.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 16, 2020 9:06 AM |
Making fun of someone does not equate having them as stereotypes. Her Indian characters are not stereotypes, critics are praising this very aspect of her show, though they are made fun of in this show. Her gays however are full offensive stereotypes. She hates gay men that's pretty clear.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 16, 2020 9:09 AM |
She hates gay men that's pretty clear.
Does she hate them more than you hate gays? Because you sure are projecting some serious hate on her.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 16, 2020 9:12 AM |
Her Indian characters are not stereotypes,
Did we watch two different shows? Because I'm pretty sure I saw lots of poking fun at/stereotypes of Indian culture.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 16, 2020 9:13 AM |
They poked fun at stereotypes but the characters themselves weren't stereotypes, that's the point. Her gay character, however was a one dimensional gay stereotype.
Does she hate them more than you hate gays? Because you sure are projecting some serious hate on her.
I don't think you understand what this term means. You're the one projecting your own insecurities. I'm just stating a fact, that her gay characters are always one dimensional flamboyant stereotypes.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 16, 2020 9:37 AM |
I'm just stating a fact, that her gay characters are always one dimensional flamboyant stereotypes.
To you. Let's review what I replied to:
[bold] She hates gay men that's pretty clear. [/bold]
Just because you claim that to be a fact, doesn't make it so to everyone else but you. Hence, projection.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 16, 2020 12:37 PM |
I’ve binged it yesterday and thought it was hilarious!
by Anonymous | reply 33 | May 16, 2020 1:42 PM |
The gay MALE character was a total stereotype. The gay FEMALE characters were not.
And I do think she plays up Indian Stereotypes. "So what if you have a 4.0 GPA? You're just one more overachieving Indian kid. Boring!"
by Anonymous | reply 34 | May 16, 2020 2:17 PM |
I’ve watched two episodes... what’s the point of the McEnroe voiceover? The first episode promised we would understand before it ended but I’m still muddled.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | May 16, 2020 2:37 PM |
r35. It's because the show is about McEnroe when he was a teenage Indian girl before he transitioned to an angry tennis player with anger management issues.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | May 16, 2020 4:00 PM |
The McEnroe gimmick was so stupid.
He isn't likable.
And it wasn't realistic that ANYONE would be watching VHS tapes of John McEnroe over and over again in 2020.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | May 16, 2020 4:08 PM |
The show's main focus is about the lead dealing with the loss of her dad. McEnroe is a connection to her dad she misses very much, but hides it for the most part underneath her snarky attitude. I guess the dad being the narrator was too on the nose.
To me the lead's frenemy, Ben (Jaren Lewison), is way hotter than Paxton. I like the special episode about him, narrated by Andy Samberg.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | May 16, 2020 4:16 PM |
As per usual the girl ends up with a Jewish guy at the end
by Anonymous | reply 39 | May 16, 2020 4:46 PM |
As per usual the girl ends up with a Jewish guy at the end
It's a Mindy Kaling show. It's not like the Indian girl is ever going to end up with an Indian!
It's like when it's a Lena Dunham show. It's not like the fat girl is ever going to end up with a fat guy.
It's a creator wish fulfillment.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | May 16, 2020 5:13 PM |
Visit San Francisco… It’s all Indian girls and white nerds In ltr
by Anonymous | reply 41 | May 16, 2020 5:15 PM |
I loved the McEnroe gimmick and I loved the gay guy. The best part about it was how much he hated Devi. Ben was cute, but it's been a few weeks and I can't remember what he looks like, Paxton on the other hand. And yes, the sister was a revelation. I loved when she said, Oh no, you're a douche.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | May 16, 2020 5:27 PM |
You can tell that Paxton has a long big dick
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 16, 2020 6:02 PM |
I want more of Paxton speaking Japanese. Shirtless and wet from the pool.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 16, 2020 7:26 PM |

True, that includes what I've said, that the gay must be a flamboyant annoying queen. In both shows, btw. I'm telling you these women hate gay men, there's no other explanation for this.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 16, 2020 10:14 PM |
I didn't think about this show too deeply. I think it was fun, lite fare. I barely remembered the flamboyant gay character until it was brought up here -- he barely registered enough for me to care.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 16, 2020 10:17 PM |
The show is Kaling's masturbatory fantasies that she (oops, I mean a teenaged Indian girl) would end up the apex of a triangle between a hot athlete or a future DILF, all the while facing no bullying, online gossip, etc. (except when the plot dictates, and then no one has a long-term memory).
That said, I enjoyed the hell out of it, but I'm not pretending it's high art.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 16, 2020 10:36 PM |
Comparing this show to my so-called life via Jordan Catalano is an insult. Calling it a watershed moment is hyperbolic. Lead is a boring Indian girl, who lets us know 1 minute in that she won't do drugs or alcohol. What kind of boring drivel is this? It suffers from the same gay trope of the perfect gay, where you need to write these unrealistic characters without any flaws to proselytise and push acceptance.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 16, 2020 11:03 PM |
Sorry I've tried. This narration is annoying and ads nothing to the already boring story. I give up.
Ramona Young is the only good thing about this show.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 16, 2020 11:11 PM |
Comparing this show to my so-called life via Jordan Catalano is an insult.
I don't know why anybody would think to compare the two shows. My So-Called Life was not a comedy; this one is. It's a bizarre comparison.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 16, 2020 11:11 PM |
R50 Both shows made the "he's the hottest guy in high school" trope a big part of their stories.
So, no, it isn't bizarre.
Try to keep up.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 16, 2020 11:58 PM |
R51, every damn teen show has a "hottest guy in high school." Is that supposed to be something unique that binds both shows?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 17, 2020 12:11 AM |
The point is that the "hottest guy in high school" usually IS the hottest guy in high school.
Not on this show.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | May 17, 2020 12:21 AM |
R53, lol okay. Touche.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | May 17, 2020 12:24 AM |
Jordan Catalano was written as an idiotic burnout whom Angela falls in love with without realizing he's a loser as she is an unreliable narrator praising things we're seeing are not true. He ends the show being a complete illiterate moron. He wasn't even a popular kid, he was an outsider who was left back twice and was in his 20s and still in high school. it was a much more honest and realistic character.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | May 17, 2020 1:29 AM |
Jaren Lewison who plays Ben Gross is super cute. Did you see the episode where he was in his underwear and showed off his thick thighs? He’s super hairy for a 20 year old. I also get gay vibes.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | May 17, 2020 1:35 AM |
He’s super hairy for a 20 year old.
The hairiest boy I can think of was super hairy for a 17 year old.
Jaren Lewison is cute, but he reminds me of real-life PLRB Ben Platt, whom I do not loathe, btw. I still consider Paxton a steal of Jordan Catalano, as each was the obsessive focus of its show's lead character, not something exactly comparable in The OC, Dawson's Creek, or Gossip Girl, for example (I am not the last word in teen soap knowledge, however, and I hardly ever watch a 30-minute show).
by Anonymous | reply 57 | May 17, 2020 4:16 AM |
My So Called Life didn't have the lead deal with the loss of her father. And it wasn't a comedy. Like, what are the trolls try to do next after nobody falls for their "Mindy HATES the gays" and "Mindy doesn't like Indian men!" shtick, Mindy's shows will never cure cancer, so no need to watch them?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | May 17, 2020 4:48 AM |
Comparing Paxton to Jordan = being a troll? What a simp you are, r58. And who is this Mindy person?
by Anonymous | reply 59 | May 17, 2020 4:51 AM |
I'd rather watch this again than My So Called Life.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | May 17, 2020 5:04 AM |
R57, I’m confused. The actor who plays Ben is 20 as he was born in 1994.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | May 17, 2020 5:14 AM |
What are you confused by, r61?
by Anonymous | reply 62 | May 17, 2020 5:19 AM |
Jaren Lewison was much cuter as a kid. Now that he is an adult, he is losing his looks.
And, no, I am not the ghost of Michael Jackson.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | May 17, 2020 4:21 PM |
R63 I think he’s starting to look like a college jock frat boy.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | May 17, 2020 10:13 PM |
I stand corrected. I gave a show another try and I like it now. I'm still pissed the only gay character in the show was a stupid flamboyant stereotype. I'm also surprised they used the fat kid for stupid punchline jokes about his weight. I think it's an entertaining and good show that needs to address these issues though. It's 2020, a lesbian character deserves a better storyline than coming out.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | May 18, 2020 10:14 PM |

He's literally that, he plays college football at USC.

I think he looks like Jason Biggs.
