Sabrina The Teenage Witch

Anyone else old enough to remember this show? I haven't seen it in years, but it popped into my head. I'm remembering how much I liked my favorite aspect of it -- the house. Share your thoughts and memories about it. If Melissa Joan Hart's alleged homophobia hasn't put you off it.

I was in high school when this shitty show was on and never watched.

by Anonymousreply 1April 29, 2020 9:02 PM

Caroline Rhea and Beth Broderick were good actresses and helped elevate it beyond any shortcomings MJH's limitations imbued it with.

by Anonymousreply 2April 29, 2020 9:04 PM

I actually hooked up with a huge pothead who had the whole series on DVD and was watching it when I got to his place. We never hooked up again.

by Anonymousreply 3April 29, 2020 9:06 PM

> If Melissa Joan Hart's alleged homophobia ...

Huh? Details needed.

by Anonymousreply 4April 29, 2020 9:07 PM

MJH was pretty decent in the show. Salem was great.

by Anonymousreply 5April 29, 2020 9:09 PM

I had such a major crush on Harvey as a wee gayling. Loved his hairy body when he was washing himself in the shower in one of the episodes. And his pierced ears is probably where I developed my love of piercings. Shame he aged very poorly.

I didnt like the later seasons when the aunts were sidelined.

by Anonymousreply 6April 29, 2020 9:10 PM

I think it's only the final season, when the aunts disappear altogether, that's really bad.

But, like I said, it's been years since I've seen it.

by Anonymousreply 7April 29, 2020 9:16 PM

Melissa was gaining weight and already taking on a frau-y Trump-voting Karen look by the show's end, if memory serves.

by Anonymousreply 8April 29, 2020 9:17 PM

Perfect show to veg out to. Still get nostalgic when watching the earlier seasons. The show felt completely different later on and by then I only watched it occasionally.

by Anonymousreply 9April 29, 2020 9:19 PM

I believe Mjh is a never trumper like her costar Sean Astin in that new Netflix show. Her tv son is gay on that. Still has solid comedic timing but found it odd that her and Sean don’t show any physical affection on screen despite being a married couple. Probably due to the actors conservative leanings.

by Anonymousreply 10April 29, 2020 9:26 PM

Was the poll really necessary? This is Datalounge. Obviously a bitchy cat and a hot young actor would far and away have the most votes.

by Anonymousreply 11April 29, 2020 9:26 PM

Loved the first four seasons. Show took a nosedive (a severe one) when they sent Sabrina to college.

by Anonymousreply 12April 29, 2020 9:28 PM

Melissa gained weight during the show, but she did not look frumpy.

by Anonymousreply 13April 29, 2020 9:28 PM

As the show’s resident bitch, I thought Libby would be polling better, R11.

Nothing for her so far.

by Anonymousreply 14April 29, 2020 9:31 PM

If anyone knows of a good role going Nate Richert could use the work......

Only watched for Salem the cat, otherwise rest left me sort of "meh".

by Anonymousreply 16April 29, 2020 10:05 PM

[quote] Perfect show to VAG out to.

Fixed that for you.

by Anonymousreply 17April 29, 2020 10:08 PM

I preferred Josh.

by Anonymousreply 18April 29, 2020 10:14 PM

I was a devoted fan the first four seasons. Watched it every Friday night, religiously. Show was subversively gay, much like Bewtiched was in the 1960s. A magic closet that takes you to another realm. Having to hide who you really are. A fabulous cat who even talks

I tried to watch the college years, but it was like a completely different show. Soleil Moon Fry was so wrong for the show. The aunts got down played. I just quit watching because it wasn't funny or entertaining.

by Anonymousreply 19April 29, 2020 11:03 PM

None I hope they all burn in hell for participating in that dreck!

by Anonymousreply 20April 29, 2020 11:08 PM

Even the opening was camp. Loved it. But like all teen shows, it went off the rails when she went to college and made a coffee shop the main meeting place over her aunts' home. Bitch, this ain't friends. Bring back the older women.

Harvey was such a hottie. Definitely jerked off thinking of him back in the day

by Anonymousreply 22April 30, 2020 12:38 AM

The show never recovered once they got rid of Libby. Never understood why they went through cast member like tissue paper.

This was fun

Great clip, but liked the original Salem's voice better.

Guess Nick Bakay was unavailable.....

Sabrina's aunts decided to leave show of their own accord.

"After the series' sixth season, Caroline Rhea and Beth Broderick, who portrayed Sabrina's aunts from the show's premiere, decided to leave the show. When the character of Sabrina started to attend college, the role of her aunts became less important. Broderick felt that the role of Zelda had nothing more to offer, while Rhea landed her own syndicated talk show, The Caroline Rhea Show."

Many of the other cast changes likely can be explained by issues of hiring young actors. They simply wanted to move on and do something else, "Josh" played by David Lascher left for that reason, so they wrote him out as going to Prague.

R24 it was nick Bakay in that clip.

by Anonymousreply 27April 30, 2020 3:39 AM

Always had the hots for Harvey and found Beth Broderick incredibly beautiful snd I love her voice.

by Anonymousreply 28April 30, 2020 3:46 AM

Yes, that was Nick Bakay's voice as Salem in the clip at r23. No doubt about it.

by Anonymousreply 29April 30, 2020 3:57 AM

Had to chose Harvey. It was odd when he was written off, just to allow Sabrina to date other guys with whom she had no chemistry. Also liked Harvey's scenes with Salem after he was "outed" as being able to talk. Harvey and a Salem - a bromance for the ages.

by Anonymousreply 30April 30, 2020 4:22 AM

I wanted Harvey to hook with the witch-hunter guy played by Jon Huertas. There was definitely a spark between those two.

Harvey was useless after a while.

R27

Was it really? My bad, didn't sound like same voice to one's ears.

by Anonymousreply 33April 30, 2020 10:29 AM

R6 I completely remember that bit on the episode of hairy chest Harvey showering - it was definitely a contributer to my gay awakening!

I loved Sabrina as a kid. It took me a while to get into the new version, but I like that too - obviously completely different.

by Anonymousreply 34April 30, 2020 10:41 AM

[quote]I am so sick of all the articles saying Chris wrote the song "It's Not Over". Then the other day I saw in In touch that Ace Young is taking credit as well. Bulls*&%t. Mark fully wrote everybit of that song except the new lyrics in the chorus... which are gay anyhow. Mark wrote the song about his ex- manager screwing him over and they turned it into a fairy love song. Anyway just wanted to vent and give my man his due credit. If anyone agrees, write in to the rags and let em have it. I am!!!

I liked Harvey, but my heart belonged to Salem.

by Anonymousreply 37April 30, 2020 2:41 PM

Couldn't stand Josh, but Dreama almost made me throw in the towel. Thank God her stint was short lived. Show really sucked when Sabrina started working for that magazine.

by Anonymousreply 38April 30, 2020 2:51 PM

Surprisingly sexy chest, definitely an early erotic gay memory
