Engaged Lesbian Couple MISSING
Police in North Carolina are asking the public for help locating a car believed linked to a missing female couple. Stephanie Mayorga, 27, and Paige Escalera, 25, were reported missing to Wilmington, N.C., police April 15. The couple had announced their engagement via Facebook in March.
Escalera’s roommate notified police after not seeing the couple for three days. The pair did not appear to expect an extended outing, as they had left behind Mayorga’s pet dog and other personal belongings. The investigation, however, was hampered from the beginning. The roommate did not know either of the missing women well and did not even know their last names. She turned in a phone belonging to her missing roommate, but Escalera’s sister Stevie Jenkins said in a Facebook post that police initially took little action. The roommate was eventually able to locate Mayorga’s last name and notify her family.
The case has since drawn widespread attention due to the efforts of friends and family. A Facebook post from Escalera’s aunt Rachel Escalera provided pictures of the pair and her niece’s distinctive tattoos.

[quote]Engaged Lesbian Couple MISSING
I first read it as Enraged Lesbian Couple MISSING
And I realized, if they're not one, they're always the other.

Are we sure some angry, rejected, straight guy isn't behind this?

They are too pretty so have probably been murdered for turning some spazzy guy down.

I first read it as “Police in North Carolina are asking the public for help locating a car believed linked to a TOP IN A missing female couple.”
Which prompted me to ask myself, as old women used to, “Which one is the man and which one is the woman?”

I'm surprised that The Advocate is using the phrase "same-sex couple" and not "same-gender couple." And I have absolutely no doubt that at least one heterosexual male is somehow involved in this.

They probably are dead but there's a small possibility they are being held, perhaps as sex slaves or victims for torture or such. It's rare but such things do sometimes happen.

Something is VERY weird about the roommate not knowing their last names. Wilmington isn’t a huge town. The cost of living isn’t so high that you would have to just get a random stranger roommate. They must have been running or hiding from someone or something.

R10 Yes they do and I embarrassingly was one of them. I rented a room to a guy who was moving here from CA. We exchanged several emails and pics but never our last names. And I went through a similar experience that he went missing and when I contacted the police they wouldn't even take a police report since I didn't know his last name.

Of course those poor girls are dead. And everyone knows violent straight men killed them. Hopefully, LEO will be able to find their bodies and track the killer(s) down, at least. That will be the only thing left to do for their loved ones.

I took a few days off from this place. I have to say I am becoming a better person by not buying into the pointless bitchery this place promotes. This place is toxic and you hang around here long enough and you become a toxic person that no one wants in their life.

R15, are you familiar with the cases of Elizabeth Smart, Jaycee Dugard or the three three women taken by Ariel Castro near Cleveland and held for 10 years, among many others? Yes, they are likely dead but not necessarily.

I would like to suggest to Miss R17 that her "taking a few days off from this place" is not a pivotal moment in history, does not require a proclamation, and a simple "no, thank you" would’ve sufficed.

I'm glad you finally agree with what I've been posting since my first post, r15. Probably dead but not yet proven, so there is still a low chance for them. The FBI always classifies people as missing until conclusive evidence of death is found, usually but not always, a body.

They found them both dead in their car in the woods off the river road outside of town a few days ago. Decomposition had rendered them unrecognizable, but they were assumed to be the missing women. No further details were available in the report I saw.

Sad. Two women announce an engagement on Facebook, then are found dead ... my first thought was uh-oh, this in redneck country? Men don't care for dykes, especially pretty ones. I wonder i they just parked to e alone together in a car with closed windows and were asphyxiated; Odd the police aren't giving many details.

Beautiful girls, definitely not your average lesbian couple. Due to their sexuality and being pretty, I fear some angry straight man/men probably killed them. Hopefully, they were just killed outright w/o being raped and tortured. Two adult women don't go missing, they wind up dead at the hands of men who couldn't have them.

R44, they’re covering up that they didn’t even bother looking for these women.
I don’t think they were murdered. Either it was a DUI accident or intentional.

Police in Wilmington, N.C., have found a car belonging to a missing female couple with two bodies inside, but they so far have not said if the deceased are indeed the missing women.

R52, one source said the car was “partially submerged”, so perhaps the wet conditions made a difference. Just a guess. There are lots of questions.

It’s women heavy, like all of Datalounge these days unfortunately, where gay men are in a minority.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | May 12, 2020 9:59 AM

R6, yes, it's surprising the Advocate is calling them a "same-sex couple" and even a "female couple", as opposed to a "queer couple". It even refers to them as "women", no qualifier.
But I have noticed recently that the Advocate - at least in the articles linked at DL - has toned down the tranny queer non-binary thing. Probably worried at falling reader figures.
As for these two poor women, this is a very sad story. Looks like they had everything to live for.

Most bizarre thing about the case is that the roommate of one of the women didn't know their last names. I understand not knowing your roommates' GF's last name, but how cn you move in with someone and not know this fundamental bit of information?

R64, what do you wonder? The police didn’t know that the car the 911 caller saw had two lesbians in it. There was no missing persons report at that time.
They just knew a trucker reported a speeding car that might have hit something. The trucker didn’t stop, so they figured it wasn’t that serious. They should have looked harder, maybe should have gone back during the daytime. Maybe they should have put two and two together when the missing persons report came in with a car’s description.
Two women drove off the road and crashed the car into a swamp. It wasn’t a hate crime.
