Engaged Lesbian Couple MISSING

Police in North Carolina are asking the public for help locating a car believed linked to a missing female couple. Stephanie Mayorga, 27, and Paige Escalera, 25, were reported missing to Wilmington, N.C., police April 15. The couple had announced their engagement via Facebook in March.

Escalera’s roommate notified police after not seeing the couple for three days. The pair did not appear to expect an extended outing, as they had left behind Mayorga’s pet dog and other personal belongings. The investigation, however, was hampered from the beginning. The roommate did not know either of the missing women well and did not even know their last names. She turned in a phone belonging to her missing roommate, but Escalera’s sister Stevie Jenkins said in a Facebook post that police initially took little action. The roommate was eventually able to locate Mayorga’s last name and notify her family.

The case has since drawn widespread attention due to the efforts of friends and family. A Facebook post from Escalera’s aunt Rachel Escalera provided pictures of the pair and her niece’s distinctive tattoos.

[quote]Engaged Lesbian Couple MISSING

I first read it as Enraged Lesbian Couple MISSING

And I realized, if they're not one, they're always the other.

by Anonymousreply 1April 29, 2020 12:39 AM

Are we sure some angry, rejected, straight guy isn't behind this?

by Anonymousreply 2April 29, 2020 12:42 AM

They are too pretty so have probably been murdered for turning some spazzy guy down.

by Anonymousreply 3April 29, 2020 12:45 AM

[quote] I first read it as Enraged Lesbian Couple MISSING

I first read it as “Police in North Carolina are asking the public for help locating a car believed linked to a TOP IN A missing female couple.”

Which prompted me to ask myself, as old women used to, “Which one is the man and which one is the woman?”

by Anonymousreply 4April 29, 2020 12:55 AM

Pretty girls

by Anonymousreply 5April 29, 2020 1:20 AM

I'm surprised that The Advocate is using the phrase "same-sex couple" and not "same-gender couple." And I have absolutely no doubt that at least one heterosexual male is somehow involved in this.

by Anonymousreply 6April 29, 2020 1:32 AM

Sad, I hope someone finds them

Where's Robert Stack when you need him?

by Anonymousreply 8April 29, 2020 11:09 PM

They are indeed very pretty, r5.

by Anonymousreply 9April 29, 2020 11:29 PM

Do people often become roommates without an iota of information from one another?

by Anonymousreply 10April 30, 2020 1:22 AM

Yep ,very pretty girls . Very dead ones too .

by Anonymousreply 11April 30, 2020 2:12 AM

They probably are dead but there's a small possibility they are being held, perhaps as sex slaves or victims for torture or such. It's rare but such things do sometimes happen.

by Anonymousreply 12April 30, 2020 3:43 AM

Something is VERY weird about the roommate not knowing their last names. Wilmington isn’t a huge town. The cost of living isn’t so high that you would have to just get a random stranger roommate. They must have been running or hiding from someone or something.

by Anonymousreply 13April 30, 2020 3:56 AM

R10 Yes they do and I embarrassingly was one of them. I rented a room to a guy who was moving here from CA. We exchanged several emails and pics but never our last names. And I went through a similar experience that he went missing and when I contacted the police they wouldn't even take a police report since I didn't know his last name.

by Anonymousreply 14April 30, 2020 4:40 AM

Of course those poor girls are dead. And everyone knows violent straight men killed them. Hopefully, LEO will be able to find their bodies and track the killer(s) down, at least. That will be the only thing left to do for their loved ones.

by Anonymousreply 15April 30, 2020 4:46 AM

[Quote] Hopefully, LEO will be able to find their bodies and track the killer(s) down, at least.

Every time I see that abbreviation, I assume you're talking about DiCaprio, and I wonder when he became a police detective.

by Anonymousreply 16April 30, 2020 4:50 AM

I took a few days off from this place. I have to say I am becoming a better person by not buying into the pointless bitchery this place promotes. This place is toxic and you hang around here long enough and you become a toxic person that no one wants in their life.

by Anonymousreply 17April 30, 2020 4:54 AM

The roommate knows something. "I don't even know them" is a cover.

by Anonymousreply 18April 30, 2020 4:58 AM

Maybe they drove a van filled with starving black kids off a cliff?

by Anonymousreply 19April 30, 2020 5:18 AM

Look for homophobic family members.

by Anonymousreply 20April 30, 2020 5:29 AM

And check out any previous boyfriends, for abusiveness, insane possessiveness, or stalking.

by Anonymousreply 21April 30, 2020 5:39 AM

R15, are you familiar with the cases of Elizabeth Smart, Jaycee Dugard or the three three women taken by Ariel Castro near Cleveland and held for 10 years, among many others? Yes, they are likely dead but not necessarily.

by Anonymousreply 22April 30, 2020 5:43 AM

Yes I am, R22. Those cases are minority cases though. These two were probably raped and killed.

by Anonymousreply 23April 30, 2020 1:15 PM

The article said one of them was selling watches on FB . I think we all know how this is going to turn out,Im sorry to say .

by Anonymousreply 24April 30, 2020 6:42 PM

Have they checked the area cliffs?

by Anonymousreply 25April 30, 2020 6:57 PM

Wilmington has low sloping beaches, no cliffs, Bootsy.

by Anonymousreply 26May 1, 2020 2:22 AM

I would like to suggest to Miss R17 that her "taking a few days off from this place" is not a pivotal moment in history, does not require a proclamation, and a simple "no, thank you" would’ve sufficed.

by Anonymousreply 27May 1, 2020 2:36 AM

"The article said one of them was selling watches on FB . I think we all know how this is going to turn out,Im sorry to say ."

Then I know this one thing: The perpetrator's Native American name is not Pale Horse.

by Anonymousreply 28May 1, 2020 2:38 AM

[quote]Yes I am, [R22]. Those cases are minority cases though. These two were probably raped and killed.

I'm glad you finally agree with what I've been posting since my first post, r15. Probably dead but not yet proven, so there is still a low chance for them. The FBI always classifies people as missing until conclusive evidence of death is found, usually but not always, a body.

by Anonymousreply 29May 1, 2020 3:00 AM

wonder if there is a jealous ex that is involved?

by Anonymousreply 30May 1, 2020 3:04 AM

They found them both dead in their car in the woods off the river road outside of town a few days ago. Decomposition had rendered them unrecognizable, but they were assumed to be the missing women. No further details were available in the report I saw.

by Anonymousreply 31May 8, 2020 2:32 AM

Thanks for the update.

by Anonymousreply 32May 8, 2020 2:36 AM

Sad. Two women announce an engagement on Facebook, then are found dead ... my first thought was uh-oh, this in redneck country? Men don't care for dykes, especially pretty ones. I wonder i they just parked to e alone together in a car with closed windows and were asphyxiated; Odd the police aren't giving many details.

by Anonymousreply 33May 8, 2020 2:49 AM

Murder-suicide.

by Anonymousreply 34May 8, 2020 3:08 AM

^^ sorry, that’s my guess, not anything else.

by Anonymousreply 35May 8, 2020 3:08 AM

Beautiful girls, definitely not your average lesbian couple. Due to their sexuality and being pretty, I fear some angry straight man/men probably killed them. Hopefully, they were just killed outright w/o being raped and tortured. Two adult women don't go missing, they wind up dead at the hands of men who couldn't have them.

by Anonymousreply 36May 8, 2020 5:12 AM

Police believe their car was involved in an extremely high-velocity crash.

by Anonymousreply 37May 8, 2020 7:02 AM

Single-vehicle crash at high speed...So -- lesbian drama?

by Anonymousreply 38May 8, 2020 9:42 AM

The cops arrived on the scene with the 911 caller there to help them, the "searched the area" and didn't find the car??

by Anonymousreply 39May 8, 2020 9:53 AM

Sounds like the car was very deep in the woods, or maybe far down a hill or something, r39. Probably hard to see in the dark.

by Anonymousreply 40May 8, 2020 10:12 AM

Wow, are we really not to blame? Even WE'RE surprised!

by Anonymousreply 41May 8, 2020 12:48 PM

So just a car crash in the woods? wow.

by Anonymousreply 42May 8, 2020 1:53 PM

Grr.

The patriarchy caused me to crash my car!

by Anonymousreply 43May 8, 2020 1:56 PM

This still doesn’t sound right. What are the cops ignoring or covering up?

by Anonymousreply 44May 8, 2020 2:09 PM

R44, they’re covering up that they didn’t even bother looking for these women.

I don’t think they were murdered. Either it was a DUI accident or intentional.

by Anonymousreply 45May 8, 2020 2:21 PM

Were they drunk driving a Subaru?

by Anonymousreply 46May 8, 2020 2:22 PM

R36 What the hell are you talking about? Most lesbians I know are beautiful

by Anonymousreply 47May 11, 2020 4:56 PM

At least there aren't a slew of adopted/foster kids this time.

by Anonymousreply 48May 11, 2020 5:06 PM

Police in Wilmington, N.C., have found a car belonging to a missing female couple with two bodies inside, but they so far have not said if the deceased are indeed the missing women.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 49May 11, 2020 8:54 PM

How long were they missing versus when the car was found?

by Anonymousreply 50May 11, 2020 8:57 PM

R50, they were last seen 4/15, they were found May 4, I think. Their bodies were very decomposed.

by Anonymousreply 51May 11, 2020 9:14 PM

Decomposed after not even a month and they were still inside the car?

by Anonymousreply 52May 11, 2020 9:18 PM

R52, one source said the car was “partially submerged”, so perhaps the wet conditions made a difference. Just a guess. There are lots of questions.

Definite Forensic Files II episode.

by Anonymousreply 54May 12, 2020 12:19 AM

R6 is hilarious. A man is somehow responsible. Never change, dykes, never change.

by Anonymousreply 55May 12, 2020 9:41 AM

Multiple people have written than a straight man is likely involved. I doubt this thread is lesbian heavy, dear.

by Anonymousreply 56May 12, 2020 9:54 AM

It’s women heavy, like all of Datalounge these days unfortunately, where gay men are in a minority.

by Anonymousreply 57May 12, 2020 9:59 AM

Sure, Jan.

by Anonymousreply 58May 12, 2020 10:02 AM

R6, yes, it's surprising the Advocate is calling them a "same-sex couple" and even a "female couple", as opposed to a "queer couple". It even refers to them as "women", no qualifier.

But I have noticed recently that the Advocate - at least in the articles linked at DL - has toned down the tranny queer non-binary thing. Probably worried at falling reader figures.

As for these two poor women, this is a very sad story. Looks like they had everything to live for.

by Anonymousreply 59May 12, 2020 10:16 AM

Most bizarre thing about the case is that the roommate of one of the women didn't know their last names. I understand not knowing your roommates' GF's last name, but how cn you move in with someone and not know this fundamental bit of information?

by Anonymousreply 60May 12, 2020 10:25 AM

Was it a flophouse?

by Anonymousreply 61May 12, 2020 10:30 AM

Her surname was obviously Michiganwomyn.

by Anonymousreply 62May 12, 2020 11:50 AM

Looks like they died in a really bad car accident.

by Anonymousreply 63May 13, 2020 4:14 AM

That PD is more than a little fucked. They spent all of 8 minutes searching? I can't help but wonder...

by Anonymousreply 64May 13, 2020 5:12 AM

R64, what do you wonder? The police didn’t know that the car the 911 caller saw had two lesbians in it. There was no missing persons report at that time.

They just knew a trucker reported a speeding car that might have hit something. The trucker didn’t stop, so they figured it wasn’t that serious. They should have looked harder, maybe should have gone back during the daytime. Maybe they should have put two and two together when the missing persons report came in with a car’s description.

Two women drove off the road and crashed the car into a swamp. It wasn’t a hate crime.
