No doubt many of you may see yourselves and your isolation behavior reflected in this clip:

Why is Meryl Streep in the middle?

by Anonymousreply 1April 27, 2020 11:21 PM

Christine Baranski looked like a lady who lunches. The other two looked like bag ladies.

by Anonymousreply 2April 27, 2020 11:21 PM

I love Audra's voice but she's out of place in this.

by Anonymousreply 3April 27, 2020 11:27 PM

I have such secondhand embarrassment for my dear friend.

by Anonymousreply 4April 27, 2020 11:34 PM

Love it!

by Anonymousreply 5April 27, 2020 11:42 PM

Not one harmony?

by Anonymousreply 6April 27, 2020 11:42 PM

Audra forgot.

by Anonymousreply 7April 27, 2020 11:45 PM

I always knew she drank right out of the bottle.

by Anonymousreply 8April 27, 2020 11:48 PM

Audra’s the only one with a voice in that crew

by Anonymousreply 9April 27, 2020 11:56 PM

I personally would have preferred Audra, Vanessa Williams and Christine.

by Anonymousreply 10April 28, 2020 12:41 AM

Christine Baranski was perfectly cast. She has that Upper East Side thing going on. There needed to be a couple of other ladies with that Waspy rich dame persona. I don't think Meryl fits the role.

Who could have been cast as the other two woman? And I know this is going to sound racist, but that Waspy persona calls for a white women in the roles, although Vanessa Williams could carry it off, but not Audra McDonald.

by Anonymousreply 11April 28, 2020 2:14 AM

R11, Stockard Channing.

by Anonymousreply 12April 28, 2020 2:16 AM

[Quote] And I know this is going to sound racist, but that Waspy persona calls for

Audra McDonald, Vanessa Williams and Phylicia Rashad.

by Anonymousreply 13April 28, 2020 2:37 AM

Great trio! So much fun

by Anonymousreply 14April 28, 2020 2:39 AM

Streep was awful in that. She's not a strong singer, but I expected better than that.

by Anonymousreply 15April 28, 2020 2:40 AM

I'm a little confused by Streep as well. I know she's not exactly Patti LuPone, but she can't handle a song originated by Elaine fucking Stritch?

by Anonymousreply 16April 28, 2020 2:49 AM

Baranski gets better every year.

by Anonymousreply 17April 28, 2020 2:54 AM

Baranski was perfect, but I would've swapped Streep and McDonald for Patti LuPone and Bebe Newirth.

by Anonymousreply 18April 28, 2020 3:00 AM

R12. Stocjard Channing is perfect!

by Anonymousreply 19April 28, 2020 3:10 AM

Why is Meryl's hairline in the middle of her head?

by Anonymousreply 20April 28, 2020 3:10 AM

^^k.

by Anonymousreply 21April 28, 2020 3:11 AM

Seeing as that is the only role she’s played for the past seventeen years, R18, yes, Baranski was good.

by Anonymousreply 22April 28, 2020 3:47 AM

"So what?! So what! I am so tired of hearing everybody talk about Meryl Streep!"

by Anonymousreply 23April 28, 2020 3:58 AM

This is the MARY!est MARY! moment in MARY! history

by Anonymousreply 24April 28, 2020 4:00 AM

If she were alive, Dina Merrill would be perfect as a lady who lunched.

by Anonymousreply 25April 28, 2020 4:05 AM

Is the whole computer isolation tribute web special available on the innertube?

by Anonymousreply 26April 28, 2020 4:16 AM

But the person who sings this song is not a lady who lunches. She sits at the bar, gets drunk, and laughs at them.

by Anonymousreply 27April 28, 2020 4:17 AM

JFC. This was obviously meant to be a satirical take of (a) the song, and (b) social distancing. Not a single one of the ladies involved gave a performance like they would have on the stage.

THEY WERE CAMPING IT UP AND HAVING FUN. When did gay men lose their sense of humor?

by Anonymousreply 28April 28, 2020 5:43 AM

The bitching cunts are not gay. Or, at least not show queens. It was a total, fun delight.

by Anonymousreply 29April 28, 2020 6:31 AM

Is Streep turning into Beulah Bondi?

by Anonymousreply 30April 28, 2020 6:41 AM

For the dumb sluts who cannot work Google Search...

Baranski, McDonald and the rest of the cast of The Good Fight sang "You Are My Sunshine" at the end of the last episode--all of them in quarantine.

It was very sweet.

by Anonymousreply 32April 28, 2020 7:02 AM

Hasn’t Sondheim’s middling talent been celebrated enough? I’ve never seen such endless veneration for someone who never composed a hummable tune in his entire career.

by Anonymousreply 33April 28, 2020 9:08 AM

Oh fuck off Jerry.

by Anonymousreply 34April 28, 2020 10:35 AM

Baranski is such a perfect Joanne - does anyone know why she has never played it?

by Anonymousreply 35April 28, 2020 10:38 AM

At least my investors make their money back, R34

by Anonymousreply 36April 28, 2020 10:59 AM

R36 Let us all watch you tribute concert, Jerry. You have so many good songs, this will be cracker.

Baranski is perfect. Audra's operatic voice is out of place in this song and Meryl doesn't seem to be hitting the right notes, but I can still see how this is a great tribute to SS from three great ladies of Broadway and the screen.

by Anonymousreply 38April 28, 2020 2:28 PM

Did no one tell Audra not to blow the roof off?

Does she only have one speed/style?

by Anonymousreply 39April 28, 2020 5:56 PM

So many stupid cunts posting here who don't get it.

by Anonymousreply 40April 28, 2020 6:22 PM

LuPone at the 80th.

I wasn't totally onboard with her staccato delivery at first. But, her asides were stealthily delivered. I really loved her rendition. And Stritch approved!

This was marvelous, pure camp. Though I agree that Audra is the odd one out, both in performance and tone.

Streep’s empty shelves are a bonus.

by Anonymousreply 42May 3, 2020 2:25 PM

This was perfection for a laugh during Covid.

by Anonymousreply 43May 3, 2020 2:29 PM

It was fun...what the fuck is Patti’s problem with it? She is such a bitch.

by Anonymousreply 44May 3, 2020 2:32 PM

From a Vulture interview with Raul Esparza:

RE: Later that day, I was on a Zoom call with Audra and Meryl and Christine for edits. Christine had sent in 32 takes. Audra had sent in ten or 12. Meryl had sent one, not because she only did one, because she was like, “This is the only thing I can bear to look at.” I said, “I am so sorry that I put you through this.” Meryl said, “… uh-huh.” Christine’s comment was, “Oh, honey. I love that you look so wild and overgrown. I feel much better now.” Audra goes, “We are all in the same boat, baby.”

MMC: We got really ambitious [with the group numbers]. For “Someone in a Tree” and the “Ladies Who Lunch” trio, to ask an actor to do a part that depended on hearing other parts was incredibly unfair. I ended up doing voice recordings of me doing every part, and we would make versions of it — one with all the parts, one with everybody but one person. They could pick whatever information they wanted to perform with.

by Anonymousreply 45May 3, 2020 2:47 PM

Oh, thank you for the info, r45.

Audra’s orange walls are the stuff of moroccan nightmares.
