Evidence of her "singing" talent below. I think its hysterical that she's been a talent judge.
Brits - please explain the career of Cheryl Cole

Member of a popular girl group + dated high-profile men + relentless ambition + permanent tabloid fodder
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 26, 2020 3:13 PM |
Gorgeous, ambitious, and seemingly beloved in the UK,she is listenable when she stays in her lane and jaw-droppingly bad when she doesn't.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 26, 2020 3:30 PM |
All I know about her is that she got knocked up by a One Direction-er and has a massive back to ass tat.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 26, 2020 3:37 PM |
I saw her in concert in 2013 when Girls Aloud had their "final" tour. Say what you want about her, but she has charisma to spare, although those hideous tattoos on her back were distracting. She seems to want to disfigure herself with tattoos and plastic surgery like those awful cheek implants she had a few years ago.
Her solo stuff is mostly mediocre but her songs with Girls Aloud are some terrific pop music (Biology, Call the Shots, Untouchable).

R3 Was that atrocity designed by Ed Hardy?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 26, 2020 3:45 PM |
What R1 said. Plus famous for assaulting a black woman in a toilet. Yes, really.
Not sure where anyone gets the idea that she’s “beloved in the UK”. It’s only the Queen & David Attenborough you can reliably say that about.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 26, 2020 3:51 PM |
Such thing does not exist.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 26, 2020 3:59 PM |
Girls Aloud were one of the most successful and critically acclaimed girl groups of all time (in the UK at least).
Winning a TV talent contest and being a cheeky Geordie probably helped in her popularity, as did her being a WAG. I do find it surprising she managed to get over the charge of racially aggravated assault and subsequent court case relatively unscathed.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 26, 2020 4:09 PM |
The Brits don't "love" any celebrities, they tolerate them. They collectively relate to the underdog, the unassuming, the so-called loser, and they can't stand the frivolity of fame and fortune. It must be that old "stiff upper lip" thing.
Cheryl was a favorite of young girls mostly who outgrew her as time went on and the stories of her diva behavior became more widespread after Simon Cowell fired her. That fight with the toilet attendant also labelled her racist because the attendant was black, but Cheryl was probably just really drunk. She's what the Brits call a chav who grew up in council, which is comparable to American white trash in a trailer park. After last album and single was a total flop a few years ago, not to mention her embarassing 1 year marriage to that child from One Direction, she's now faded into obscurity.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 26, 2020 4:18 PM |
R10 No-one has used the word 'chav' in the UK in about 20 years.

R11 - that’s not true at all. “Chav” is still used a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 26, 2020 4:47 PM |
Her having a kid out of a fling with a much younger, fomer boybander made me realize she failed in live.

Cheryl Cole and Kimberley Walsh.
Not suggestin’ anything.
Just sayin’.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 26, 2020 5:10 PM |
She's a very attractive white female. In Britain, that means she's a diamond in the rough.

by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 26, 2020 5:56 PM |

A triumph of marketing, PR and packaging. Along with a whole load of other crap Simon Cowell foisted on the country and then overseas. A perfect example of how celebrity worship has hollowed out the culture. Maybe after the virus people, adults at least, will realise how regularly they were being duped and start to ignore every shiny new PR creation concocted just to make the management money. Or we’ll just sink further into a miasma of stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 7, 2020 6:32 AM |
Her music career is finally over it seems. She released a single in 2018 that flopped, and she released another single last year that flopped even harder, which caused plans to record a new album to be shelved.

She had excellent plastic surgery if you look at her early photos compared to now.

I think the fact that a thousand more people disliked that trainwreck than liked it, OP, answers your question.

Simon Cowell didn't have anything to do with Girls Aloud. They were initially managed by Louis Walsh, and the only decent thing he did for them was put them in touch with Xenomania who produced most of the first album and the subsequent 4 albums.
Walsh originally saw Girls Aloud as a launch group for Nadine Coyle, but Cheryl became the breakout star, despite her lack of singing ability but through her personality and performance ability.
Like Geri Halliwell she's not a great singer but with the right song and video director she comes alive as a pop star. Sure no one wants to hear her sing live when she's doing a routine like this, but it's the same with Paula Abdul and the Vibeology debacle.
And yes, she's common as fuck. Grew up in poverty in a rough council estate, brother repeatedly in prison for drugs offences. One of the reasons posh rich girl Lily Allen hates Cheryl is because she's authentically common. Allen talks in her mockney accent and hangs around council estates like she's working class, but she'll always be a posh rich girl who went to very expensive schools and hung out on movie sets her mother was producer on.

I will never not associate Cheryl Cole to one of my favourite things ever.
Oh wait, sorry, it's Cher Lloyd.
I don't care. I'm posting it anyway.

She and Victoria Beckham are the UK equivalent of J. Lo and Kim Kardashian.

by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 26, 2021 4:56 PM |
She was one of the winners of pop stars the rivals - The brits are heavily invested in their reality stars - Girls Aloud was created out of that show - The original popstars was more documentary style with no voting - then Pop Idol became a big hit - so they second iteration of Pop Stars - they created a girls group and a boys group- to see who could have the best chart position my Christmas.

She sang a horrible song after a personal break up on X Factor a few years ago.

Saved by Gary Barlow.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 29, 2021 5:16 AM |
Oh dear. Nadine was the better singer by far too, if we're talking Girls Aloud.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 29, 2021 5:23 AM |
We have JLo and made her way more wealthy and famous than her talent deserves. Every country has pretty women with high school choir level singing chops. As long as they give good face, body, and beats we are good.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 29, 2021 5:30 AM |

Geri Halliwell lololol. She's morphed herself into a posh yummy mummy in a country house, new accent and all.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 29, 2021 5:43 AM |
I think Girls Aloud had way better songs than Spice Girls. Girls Aloud were also prettier. Neither are talented though.

When you're British the bar is set very low.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 29, 2021 4:33 PM |
It does seem the British support their local artists more regardless of if they're talented or not. In The US, the artist are very disposable and will be easily forgotten unless they're constantly in the tabloids or doing shitty reality shows (see: J. Lo, Jessica Simpson, Miley, Selena).

What number divorce is she on now? Will she go back to being Cheryl Tweedy?
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 30, 2021 3:56 PM |
I love the controversy of Cheryl's ethnicity. She looks Mediterrean to some, part Indian to others. It turns out she's part black Irish. She's very attractive but seems to have a bad girl streak.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | June 5, 2022 4:31 PM |
The Brits will explain Cheryl when we explain Janet, Paula Abdul, and Britney Spears.
