She had a number of hits in the '60s and '70s, including her Oscar-nominated role in "The Graduate," and she managed to win two Golden Globes and a BAFTA. By the '80s though, she basically stopped working, and hardly did anything in the '90s. I was surprised when she showed up as the therapist in "Donnie Darko." I've read that she had a reputation for being "difficult" (which she acknowledged herself), though I don't know exactly in what way. Was she a major cunt, or did she simply shift her focus to Sam Elliott's cock? (Not that I would blame her)
She was a very bad actress.

Regarding "Butch Cassidy":
The 29-year-old actress, an Oscar nominee for playing Elaine Robinson in The Graduate, played Sundance’s girlfriend, Etta Place. In real life, she was dating (and would soon marry) cinematographer Conrad Hall, and that’s how she got into trouble. Ross was interested in photography, and while observing a scene that she wasn’t in, she asked Hall if she could operate one of the cameras. There were several cameras in use for this particular scene, so it didn’t matter (to Hall, anyway) if one of the less important ones was operated by an amateur, just for fun. Many crew members felt otherwise, and director Hill was furious when he found out. He sent word to Ross back at her hotel that she was no longer allowed on the set except when she was working. “It became a very difficult shoot for me,” she later said. “In fact, it took me a long time before I even wanted to see the film.”

She was perfect in The Graduate - great casting - but she didn't have a lot of range,

She's a shit actress.

I've only seen her in a few things but agree with r3. Not much range and she kept that California-70s-hippy look long past the sell by date.

I've always liked her. She never seemed to overact and naturally very pretty. I always wondered if she and Sam were the real deal. They've been together forever and out of the gossips. Great looking couple.

She was perfect in The Stepford Wives.

I agree R8. She had a great look and you never had a problem believing that guys would go crazy over her. I would, however, have no qualms about sending her to Siberia to get to Sam Elliott.

I don't blame her, who wouldn't fallow that into a mansion with greedy freaks.

FWIW, I loved her in "The Stepford Wives." I am also a big fan of "The Legacy," a Satanic-themed horror flick she starred in opposite Sam Elliott (I think they met on this film). It's not a great movie and she has a few "yikes" line deliveries, but it's atmospheric fun (fantastic English locations) and overall just utterly strange. I recently re-watched it after I bought the new Blu-ray from Indicator, which sort of spurred this thread. Plus, it has Sam, at his prime, disrobing and baring his gorgeous ass.

Pretty girl but not a very good actress, and her "comeback" in The Colbys was just so pathetic.
5 husbands in 25 years is a bit much though, but glad she settled on number 5.

R11 Wrong picture! ☹

Given that she and Sam have managed to truck it for 40+ years (especially given that she had a history of short marriages) suggests that they are the real deal IMO, R7. When Sam was nominated for his Oscar for "A Star is Born", I remember thinking it was kind of funny that they'd each received Academy nods at opposite ends of their careers.

Never great but usually good, and possessed of an unusually warm, likeable, and sensual screen presence. As a young woman she was perfect for "the girl" roles, she had a kind of Earth Mother vibe, and looked absolutely stunning with the long hair and minimal makeup that was in style at the time.
Made two excellent films that are remembered today, and was the lead in one and not just the girl.

She is part of one of the best moments in film history, so no matter what anyone thinks of her, she's forever etched in the stone of pop culture.

2 classics and one cult film and a few good movies. She had a long marriage with a fine hunk of man. I say she has done very well.
