Mine is Michael, which was the given name or the middle name of about 1/3 of the boys I grew up with (I was born in 1969). I've always considered it very dull.
What's your middle name(s), and do you like it?

Floyd. Born in 1966. I love it.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 23, 2020 9:53 PM |
Craig. I wish it was my first name.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 23, 2020 9:56 PM |
My middle name is also my uncle's first name. It’s a derivative of Elbridge Gerry, fifth Vice-President’s, last name, and it is always pronounced wrong. So no, I don’t like it. I have surrendered to the mispronunciation, though.
It is a funny coincidence that my family hales from the same town as old Elbridge. No intermarriage, as far as I know. This is why I advise people to give their kids two middle names. Even if one of them is unofficial. One that is a family name, and one that is plain and normal, so the kid can go by that if it likes.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 23, 2020 9:56 PM |
Steven - don't really care. My first name on the other hand 4 generations of males in my family have the same one.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 23, 2020 10:12 PM |
I don’t have a middle because my mother thought they were antiquated, but I guess they’re nice to have in case you aren’t satisfied with your first and want to go by an alternate. Thankfully, I’m very happy with my first name - Dale.
Floyd is a good name indeed, R3.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 23, 2020 10:19 PM |
Huntley.
It's ok.

Arthur. I didn’t like it when I was younger but don’t mind it now.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 23, 2020 10:39 PM |
Anthony. Despite it being my mother's favorite saint, I hate it. I have to use it when I notarize documents, but other than that I never do. If forced, I say the A is for Alexander, Albert, Andrew, whatever strikes my fancy.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 23, 2020 10:42 PM |
Mine is also Michael. When I'm feeling fancy I use it with my first name! I was born in 1971. My first name is also one that was popular at the time.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 23, 2020 11:12 PM |
Allllen. It's like a conjunction, or afterthought.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 23, 2020 11:40 PM |
My middle name is my mother's maiden name, and I love it. Ede, pronounced Eed. I'm very close to my cousins on my mother's side, and sharing the name makes me feel even closer.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 23, 2020 11:43 PM |
Michael. My full name is three first names.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 23, 2020 11:46 PM |
Lawrence. It is in no way part of my identity.

Merle. Any more questions?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 24, 2020 12:42 AM |
At least Merle isn't as bad as Earl.

My grandma's middle name was Moon. I love that. Called her Gramma Moon. She was a doll.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 24, 2020 12:46 AM |
R22 That's a push. Shit vs. diorrhea💩
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 24, 2020 12:49 AM |
It's a family name, unusual and recognizable, which receives comments when I'm obliged to use it since it is part of my legal name. I like it, am rather proud of what it means to me, but it still feels private.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 24, 2020 12:49 AM |
I have no middle name. First. Last. Done.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 24, 2020 12:57 AM |
Grey. It's alright, I guess. My mom's maiden name.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 24, 2020 12:59 AM |
Vincent. I like it, it’s from my mother french side.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 24, 2020 1:00 AM |
Alfred- if you knew my full name Andrew would be far better. It was my father's and grandfather's middle name.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 24, 2020 1:08 AM |
R23, did your Grammy Moon used to say, "Enjoy it while you can. There'll be none of that in Hell!"
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 24, 2020 1:16 AM |
William. Most boring name of all time.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 24, 2020 1:46 AM |
Have you guys with "boring" names ever looked up the origins of your name? It can be pretty cool.
Just put your name in Wikipedia.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 24, 2020 2:11 AM |
For example, George, such a high brow name, actually means peasant.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 24, 2020 2:17 AM |
And Michael, is actually a sentence, a question to be precise: who is like god?
Very strange.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 24, 2020 2:19 AM |
William: desired helmet

by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 24, 2020 5:23 AM |
R31, some of us do like your middle name. I've always liked the names William and Wilhelm.
The nicknames Bill and Billy are godawful though.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 24, 2020 5:30 AM |
Leigh. I'm male. My mother must have known in utero that I'd turn out gay.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 24, 2020 5:32 AM |
Mine is William. My father (Norwegian) is Villiam, and the name has been in his family for about 5 generations as far as he can work out. It's a good name, but I prefer the English pronunciation.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 24, 2020 5:37 AM |
Like several others here, my middle name is my mother's maiden name. It's not a name that anyone would ever use as a first name. In my case, my mother, who had named her first 4 children, was under ether when I was born, so my father named me. When she woke up, she was angry (because Irish people always name their children after some relative or other and my first name was not used by any of her relatives), so to mollify her, my father added her maiden name. However, that middle name gives me some special affinity to my cousins (it's their last name), and it also gives me dibs on my grandmother's monogrammed sterling silver.

Another Michael here - 1960. The twist? I’m Hispanic.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 24, 2020 7:15 AM |
Charles. I don't hate it but I'm glad it's not my first name.

R12 Funny. Mine is also Anthony, also after my mom's favourite saint, but I really love it. Wish it was my first name.

My best fag hag in college had very hippie parents. They named her Summer’s Eve because she was born on the day before the official start of summer that year. She was still traumatized in college by all the douche/stink pussy/vaginal odor jokes she had to endure in school. I always greeted her by saying complimenting her on how fresh and clean she looked, like a woman who was ready action.......
by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 24, 2020 8:24 AM |
R51 what does summer‘s eve have to do with smelly vaginas?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 24, 2020 8:50 AM |
Gerard. Yeah, I'm kind of fond of it. It was Scott for three months, then my adoptive parents changed it to Gerard. I refer to them as adoptive parents only in the legal sense. I've never thought of them as anything but my parents. Anybody who raises you and puts up with your crap is your parent. It's great to know I wasn't a 'mistake' or 'accident', as my grandmother told my mother.
What a thing to tell your daughter.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 24, 2020 10:05 AM |
Thomas, after my paternal grandfather who died two years before I was born. He was always referred to as "Tom."

by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 24, 2020 1:49 PM |
Another middle Michael here. 1952. My parents wanted to make it my first name, but apparently there was a kid next door named Michael and they thought it might get confusing when yelling for me. We moved away by the time I was 3 so it wasn't really an issue.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 24, 2020 2:00 PM |
Damn.
You can lead a horse to water but you just can't make him drink....
Carry on....
