Food Network's Anne Burrell is engaged ... to a man!

Chef Anne Burrell has taken her love life off the back burner and is serving up a whole new future! The host of Food Network's "Secrets of a Restaurant Chef" is engaged to Stuart Claxton, who works in ad sales marketing at Univision.

Burrell, 50, announced the news on Tuesday that Claxton, 48, had proposed in her hometown of Cazenovia, New York, where the pair are quarantining with her family. People first reported the news.

Shouldn't this have been announced on April 1?

by Anonymousreply 1April 22, 2020 4:15 PM

Eight years ago, she came out as a lesbian. I guess all it took was the right man to turn her straight.

This reminds me of when Julie Cypher broke up with Melissa Etheridge. "I'm not gay and never have been." So 12 years and 2 children later, she was just faking it all. Because that isn't deranged at all.

It's interesting how so many lesbians seem to have had relationships with men.

Most gay men who come out don't them go on to switch back.

by Anonymousreply 8April 22, 2020 5:08 PM

He's handsome, I would've said yes too.

Damn lesbians takin' the available men during quarantine.

This made me LOL:

"I mean, I am 50. It didn’t seem it would be in the cards for me," Burrell told TODAY Food.

by Anonymousreply 13April 22, 2020 5:18 PM

Yeah you never know with women. Gay now, straight later.

You very rarely see the same thing with men.

by Anonymousreply 14April 22, 2020 5:20 PM

He rattles my gaydar (& I have lousy gaydar).

Anne Heche caught flack for refusing to identify as a lesbian when she was with Ellen.

by Anonymousreply 15April 22, 2020 5:23 PM

They should change the headline of the news story from

Celebrity chef Anne Burrell is engaged to Stuart Claxton: 'I was bawling'

Shh, Don't Tell Him! Celebrity chef Anne Burrell is engaged to Stuart Claxton!

From Pussy Galore to Pussy No More: Celebrity chef Anne Burrell is engaged to Stuart Claxton!

One more example of why to stay away from bisexuals. They are very confused and flip-flop back and forth and are never satisfied.

by Anonymousreply 17April 22, 2020 5:25 PM

I wonder if The Huff Post will print a retraction on her sexuality.

by Anonymousreply 18April 22, 2020 5:31 PM

I wonder what her fellow Food Network stars think, especially Ted Allen, who is the one who outed her years ago.

She acted weird right after Ted outed her—she freaked out and left work, then holed up at home for a while before issuing a statement that she was never in the closet to begin with (despite claiming on Facebook that she was single and looking for a boyfriend).

Her ex is Koren Grieveson, who used to be chef de cuisine at Avec in Chicago and has competed on [italic]Top Chef[/italic] and [italic]Iron Chef.[/italic]

If I remember correctly (can't find a link right now), a magazine did a feature several years ago on celebrity chefs' ideal dates. Anne Burrell was one of the chefs featured, and she described her ideal date as a man, which raised a lot of eyebrows and prompted a lot of eye-rolling at the time because everyone pretty much knew or assumed she was a lesbian. I think it was shortly after that that Ted Allen outed her. It seems that Burrell has always been conflicted about her sexuality.

by Anonymousreply 23April 22, 2020 5:41 PM
It seems that Burrell has always been conflicted about her sexuality.

Reading between the lines in the article at the OP, I get the feeling that she came out to her family at some point and it didn't go well.

by Anonymousreply 24April 22, 2020 6:00 PM

He must love the smell of her freshly-baked cookies.

by Anonymousreply 25April 22, 2020 6:06 PM

This might be one of those never-ending engagements. I wouldn't be surprised if she did this to please her ailing mother and once the mother dies, the engagement will be called off. This guy is probably her best girlfriend and they're giggling about all the attention they're getting online.

by Anonymousreply 26April 22, 2020 6:07 PM

Is this Rosie O'Donnell syndrome? An obvious bull dyke lesbian who can't help but give the impression they find men attractive when the really have no interest. Some take it further and actually date or even marry men. I have one of these in my family

by Anonymousreply 27April 22, 2020 6:44 PM

Dick wins again

by Anonymousreply 28April 22, 2020 6:51 PM

I’ve noticed that even today, a lot of people around her age that are gay are still never truly comfortable with their sexuality. As someone else mentioned, I’m wondering if her parents did not take it well when she came out and now she’s trying to please them. If so, that’s sad she still worries what people think.

I don’t see this lasting.

by Anonymousreply 29April 22, 2020 7:01 PM

by Anonymousreply 44April 23, 2020 1:32 AM

For a woman, a relationship with a man would be much easier. Provided the man is not an abuser, most straight men will go out of their way to prevent their wives from expressing sadness or anger. They often become passive to avoid arguments. And with straight men, most moods can be even out with sex or food.

Two women together will talk, talk, talk, get emotional (times two), and process/overanalyze the situation.

I remember her cooking bolognese sauce on one of her shows several years back. "BROWN food is good" is what she kept repeating. Brown the veggies, brown the tomato paste, over-brown the meat. She said it with such authority so I tried it her way. Not bad at all. I like her. My ex girlfriend from high school and I met up at a gay bar during my college years. She was a big lipstick lesbian during the whole early to mid-20 years. She ended up marrying a dude several years later. Who cares?

She's the female Guy Fieri - a TV celebrity hack who passes herself off as a "chef".

by Anonymousreply 61April 24, 2020 1:41 AM

I wouldn't go THAT far, R61, that's really scraping bottom.

A decade ago, there was fawning all over the DL with love for Anne Burrell, how easy and good her recipes were....I skipped because Anne was one of those weirdos who TALKED TO THE FOOD. There is no sane reason to talk to food. Sorry.

by Anonymousreply 62April 24, 2020 2:17 AM

She is not a douche like Guy Fieri. Her recipes are really good, I loved her original show Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. It was unpretentious and fun. I learned a lot of good cooking skills from watching her. I get her humor since I worked in a restaurant when I was young. She talks to her food like we had to talk to customers, so I get that. Plus she has good cooking chops, she lived in Italy working as a chef so I think she paid her dues. Compare that with Ted Allen who's only experience with food was plating hors d'oeuvres on Queer Eye.

by Anonymousreply 63April 27, 2020 4:08 AM

Most food network personalities aren't elite celebrated chefs. They are television personalities first and foremost.

by Anonymousreply 64April 27, 2020 4:16 AM

No one want's elite chefs trying to teach people how to cook R64. They are too wrapped up in their Michelin star persona showing off food made from foam, sous vide wagyu beef and liquid nitrogen infused ice cream. The best teachers are real chefs that worked day in and day out cranking out amazing food honing their skills by living and working in different countries around the world.

by Anonymousreply 65April 27, 2020 5:56 AM

Meh, as a femme 44 yo lesbian, it's slim pickings out here. I don't know about marrying a dude, but cohabitating with a good gay guy friend would be reasonable. Maybe that's the arrangement. Those two don't even fit into the "fluid" categories, they gay.

by Anonymousreply 66April 27, 2020 6:59 AM

He's a good-looking man with a 15-year-old son from a previous relationship. I wonder what that teenaged kid thinks about this business of his dad marrying a lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 73April 27, 2020 7:58 AM

Maybe it's a lesbian chef thing. The first lesbian who won Hell's Kitchen, Heather West, supposedly was a lesbian but now she's married to some guy. I think a lot of it is just that it's so much easier to be straight in this country. Add that to the fact that it's also a lot easier to have kids and they all just pretend for a decade or two. Then, the kids leave and they go back to women. I don't think any actual lesbian would sleep with a man after their youthful experimentation stage. These women are bisexual.

by Anonymousreply 74April 27, 2020 9:22 AM

Is her hair on purpose?

by Anonymousreply 75April 27, 2020 9:48 AM
Lesbians always pull shit like this

Yep, I know one right now who is in her 60's. She started out straight had 2 kids, then became a Lesbian at some point. Had a purely ceremonial gay wedding back in the day before it was legal. 30 years later they are breaking up and now all she talks about is how she wishes she could find a rich man 80 years old so he would kick the bucket soon, not have sex and leave her all his money. Meanwhile her ex-girlfriend still lives in the house fixing up things (typical) so she doesn't want her to leave even though she bitches about it every day. Of course she is also a life coach, spiritual guidance and marriage counselor.

by Anonymousreply 80April 27, 2020 3:20 PM

R76 What a mess.

by Anonymousreply 81April 27, 2020 3:20 PM

You'd think that but it isn't true r80. Elite kitchens are dominated by straight white men, though that is starting to change.

by Anonymousreply 82April 27, 2020 3:28 PM

"She started out straight had 2 kids, then became a Lesbian at some point. "

My friend's cousin is like that. Two marriages and two children before age 40. At age 42 she left husband #2 and started a relationship with a woman. Eight years later they're still together. She's a lesbian, however, she identifies as "fluid." If she leaves the woman she's been with longer than any of her marriages, it won't be for a man because her trust fund has kicked in.

by Anonymousreply 83April 27, 2020 4:05 PM

Guy Fieri has a douchebro image but he's well known for contributing to charities and founding some of his own. He just set up a relief fund for unemployed food workers out of jobs because of the virus.

This thread is full of stereotypes that sound awfully right wing. Fieri is a liberal so everyone hates him, lesbians are all awful lying scammer greedy bitches, etc.

A lot of you guys need some fucking help.

by Anonymousreply 84April 27, 2020 4:19 PM

Did you know, R84, that Guy Fieri was full of "funny" homophobic jokes when one of his Diners Drives guests was obviously gay? That's well known. I don't care how philanthropic Guy Fieri may be, he's an annoying pain in the ass, can't cook other than shoving food into his fat ass face, and should get the fuck off TV.

by Anonymousreply 85April 27, 2020 4:58 PM

So he's in Marketing and PR, specializing in media management, and is a UK citizen.

Do we think this is part of a PR push to make her more appealing to the masses? And he gets an American marriage and a path to citizenship?

His social media are private - which I respect, but makes you wonder.

Did he lose his job and he was about to be deported? It's not easy for immigrants in Trump's America.

She looks and acts soooo dykey - I just don't believe this.

Fieri also gave a lot of food to firefighters, when his part of Northern California was beset with wildfires. So he's not all bad.

He's just 90% bad, and sucks as a TV personality. I wish they'd put another host on "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives", it's a good idea for a TV show, real mental comfort food, and it'd be so much more pleasant with a different host!

by Anonymousreply 90April 27, 2020 7:30 PM

Diners, Drives in and Dives doesn't do it for me (a lot of it is fairly basic cooking IMO), but I have a soft spot for Guy's Grocery Games.

Not gay ones, he is a well known homophobe and it's documented by his statements.

by Anonymousreply 92April 27, 2020 7:58 PM

Both of those shows suck, Grocery Game? During a pandemic? Really?

How about actual shows that teach people how to cook which is how they originally got started. That switch they did a few years back to game and competition shows are just a waste of time and talent. I stopped watching when they did that. Too bad because I learned a lot when it was more knowledge based.

"Fieri also gave a lot of food to firefighters..."

Are you, R90, aware that "generous contributions" to charity or those in need are often publicity ploys? Public image enhancements? Visibility enforcements? I'd believe that Fieri actually meant throwing money around was not any of those things if he did it quietly away from the cameras, away from social media. NOT!

I found the article where celebrity chefs described their ideal dates and Anne Burrell said she was "seeking men." It was in Time Out New York in 2008:
ANNE BURRELL, 39
Former executive chef, Centro Vinoteca, Gusto; star of Secrets of a Restaurant Chef
Seeking men
What Burrell’s food says about her: “My food is aggressively seasoned, in-your-face. It’s creative and thoughtful, but still subtle and purposeful. It speaks to who I am. I’m a little left of center: lots of fun and a little nutty, but I can also be relaxed and chill.”
