by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 22, 2020 12:46 AM |
Can't the dumbasses' estates sue Disney for years if they die, and the survivors if they suffer permanent lung damage, other damage? The insurance companies will never allow this, surely, unless the great state of Florida is underwriting those insurance companies now. It does underwrite Citizens, but that're only into hurricanes, so far.

Well the kids are mostly carriers not victims of this. They all join up at Disney, lots of hotels, lots of rental cars, lots of flights, lots of airports, lots of staff and officials, then back to school: Disney alone will create a herd mentality, aka a hecatomb, all via Disney; such a nice way to go.

Don't they have something like 40,000 employees? Maybe the point is IF he can convince them to open parts of the park(s) then those people won't be allowed to file unemployment...which lets everybody off the hook.
But, I agree. Who will go? Can the base afford $100/per person a day? And would it be worth it to open on a small scale if they can't get volume?
Third thought: maybe this is a guilt trip. I thought I read in the other Disney thread that they were even considering closing DisneyWorld.

Exactly. Are some people not understanding that it doesn't matter what these rube governors *want* to do, the onus will be on the businesses if people end up getting sick, so why would they risk it? The movie theater chains in GA already told the governor to fuck off because they're not opening until summer at the earliest.

by Anonymous | reply 74 | April 22, 2020 3:41 PM |
If they reopen Disney and only a small percentage show up, they will likely lose money. I'm sure that is a big part of their consideration. Recent polls have shown that over 70% of Americans think it's too soon to open big venues like this.
What will these dipshit southern governors do? If Disney doesn't want to open now, will they call out the National Guard and force them to open their doors under threat of death or imprisonment???
by Anonymous | reply 76 | April 22, 2020 8:37 PM |
Another factor to consider is that it is hard to get a refund on things just because you didn't feel safe going. This may or may not apply so much to a massive operation like Disney, but certainly to gyms. I personally wouldn't feel safe going to Crunch right now and I'm glad they are not charging me. But, I wager, anyone in Florida with a membership to Equinox will be getting charged for May next week.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | April 22, 2020 8:46 PM |
"What is the rush to open the theme parks?"
It's a five letter word spelled M-O-N-E-Y.
Florida residents pay no state income tax because of the money tourists spend at Disney World, Universal, LegoLand, as well as the related hotels, restaurants, toll roads and car rentals. If there are no tourists, there are no tax revenues for scumbags like Scott and the current governor to misappropriate into their own pockets.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | April 22, 2020 8:59 PM |
There is a big legal hurdle that has to be cleared as well, not just for Disney, but any large venue operator. None of them can be sued by someone claiming they got Coronavirus while visiting their establishments, whether it's movie theaters, sporting events, or amusement parks. Without that settled, none of these can open up again for the public. They would be sued out of business promptly. In a case like Disney, especially, they would also need legal protection from their employees.

But the Florida case will be interesting. What happens when the lockdown is lifted and business's don't re open? Can the state deny unemployment to the workers? Can they make the business pay for it? Will the 600 unemployment stimulus dissapear? My guess is that the employees will get nothing.

Indeed, R87.
But the people out and about at Disney then visit gas stations. And grocers. And banks. And doctors.
We then visit gas stations, grocers, doctors, shop owners, over weeks—->months.
So if the folks working “essential services” are not infected themselves from Disney goers, they could be vectors for those who are careful about social distancing.
Believe it or not, we are interconnected.
It is not as simple, or black and white as “stay home” to avoid exposure.

This is what r93 had to say on another thread. I think we can safely say that he's a moron and/or a troll.
[quote]Such wishful thinking. If Democrats are relying on Biden to save them then they’d better think again.
[quote]Anybody who believes a poll taken today especially from CNN which hates Trump, is only fooling themselves. No poll means anything until October.
[quote]Unless Biden asked for a mental evaluation no they would not. Can’t force it on him. If he released them already they are probably fake. Trying too hard to convince you. It’s clear he has dementia. He’s older than Reagan was when he left office. Look at his expression. Nobody at home.
[quote]The last “debate”?? You referring to the one where Biden had all his remarks prepared in advance? It was painfully obvious and expected since it was on CNN-the same phony cheats that admittedly gave Hillary the questions in advance. Biden got pitched marshmallows. It was a pathetic display.
[quote]There is no law requiring Biden to have a competence exam. No doctor can force it. He’s not holding any office. Not employed. He will delay this as long as possible.
[quote]Trump not even campaigning. Dealing with virus. Ever heard of the convention “bump”? By publicizing this now as if he’s nominated Biden is muting that effect. Expect him to falter after the convention. He should stfu and support virus relief efforts. He has lost his mental acuity. Will be destroyed in a debate -if fairly conducted.
I know we have to have trolls, but do they have to be so incompetent, not to mention more than a little stupid?
by Anonymous | reply 102 | April 28, 2020 1:39 AM |
Trump has never stopped campaigning.
He is an incompetent who cannot do the job he is compelled to run for.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | April 28, 2020 4:32 AM |
Unsurprisingly, he has never come out of campaign-mode. It is because his version of campaigning is simply activity that masquerades as work. We all know that he is an incredibly lazy person. He doesn’t want to do anything other that sit on his fat ass, watch Faux News, rage-tweet, and eat. He doesn’t read the briefing materials, he doesn’t attend the briefings, and he’s incapable of learning anything. For the last three years he’s flown around the country to blather at the moronic sheep who attend his Nazi-style rallies. But it is not like his remarks constitute well-crafted speeches filled with serious insights and soaring rhetoric. No. They’re inane ramblings of whatever pops into his empty head at that moment, where everything is subject to revision at any point thereafter, including by the time he reaches the end of his sentence. However, the rallies perform an important function to him and his sycophants: they give the appearance of him “doing” something. In reality, of course, they are completely nonessential movement that adds nothing of any substance to the national dialogue.
I cannot wait until this dangerous buffoon is no longer in office.

In all but three states unemployment is paid solely by the employer.. In NJ, PA and AL employees also contribute.

So I am an AP holder and Disney Fag. We go two to three times a year. Just from my knowledge of the logistics, the lines, the parks themselves, I don't see how they can do any sort of social distancing. Some ride lines lend themselves to it, some just do not. Pirates, for example, is just a fucking corral. They can't the parades, that is SRO, so are the fireworks. There is no way they can use the monorails - they would have to wipe them down after every stop, empty the trains and then load in - I would say for Disney to open and allow guests they would have to have them all sign a waiver saying they know they might get sick.

r116 Imagine the lines for the big attractions with social distancing, they will be 1/4 mile long, there's no room for them, and those standing in the extended lines would be exposed to the baking sun or frequent rain. Then the CMs have to sanitize every ride vehicle, extending the wait time even more. Until there is a vaccine, it seems like a massive headache.

Unlike cruise ships, I guess that Disney believes it's immune to park admissions declines - or at least is stands to make more by reopening than it stands to lose by having a cluster of infections.

I live in central Florida and something strange is happening this week ... I never thought I would say this, but people don't give a fuck anymore. We have over one million people living here, but we only had 35 deaths from the virus. Our hospitals were not overwhelmed. Yes, if we had not done the lockdown, we would have had more. But this small number of deaths is not enough to keep people interested in following all the rules and regulations.

Disney has four cruise ships. Last year, a German company started building three more at a cost of $1 billion each.
Today, Disney was downgraded by two financial analysts: "The analyst further reduced his earnings forecasts for Disney, explaining: "We do expect Disney to be given a pass from investors on fiscal year 2020 (which ends in September) earnings and to some degree fiscal year 2021 as the impact of the pandemic likely lingers. However, we are also reducing our fiscal year 2022 forecasts to factor in the additional risk and uncertainty about what a new normal will look like across most of Disney's businesses. Looking at those fiscal year 2022 forecasts, the risk-reward is just not that compelling."

[quote]All Disney on-site attractions must close for at least a year. A single superspreader event at one of their mega-amusement parks could spell the death of the entire Brand.
There are people who actually die in the parks as a direct result of riding an attraction, and yet that hasn't resulted in the death of the brand. Proving that someone was infected in a Disney Park, without the possibility of any other source, will be a difficult case.

Yeah, it's not luck .... it's underreporting. The Florida Medical Examiner's office has always provided public information on deaths .... and they have now been stopped from providing the COVID19 numbers. Major newspapers in the state have been reporting that the State death counts are at least 10% lower what what various entities - care centers, assisted living, etc. - are reporting themselves.
