Gene Kelly was so hot.

Thank you all for the footage. We have nothing even close to these talents today. That Astaire dude was magic. Has anyone come close to his timing?

Great thread! I could rhyme off half a dozen great dance scenes. So hard to choose just one, but how about Tommy Rall and Bob Fosse in the 1955 version of My Sister Eileen ...

That Gritty clip the OP posted kept showing up on my YouTube feed so I finally watched it...the guy's not that great, he just shakes his hair around a lot.
This is my favorite dance scene in film.

R33, what a great find! Cagney's cameo in that film makes the movie, but Hope's dancing is a surprise.
Not really dancing, but there is a scene from a movie whose title I forget, where Bobby Van jumps non-stop through his home town. Nothing quite like it.

Hate the title but the video is lovely. I love those sensual small movements and they are just enjoying themselves.

That was "Take Me to Broadway", from the movie "Small Town Girl". Hugh Jackman paid tribute to it during one of the Tony awards, and NOBODY got it; everybody was asking why he was jumping around like that, lol. Of course, my old ass got the reference right away.
I loved Bobby Van -- he was so cute.

Not from a movie and the quality is pretty bad But keep your eye on the guy in the red jacket dancing behind Petula Clark. He's absolutely enjoying himself and can really dance to this song. She even gets a minute to dance with him (as his girlfriend backs away). Also my favorite Petula song.

I reckon I've seen Revelations performed 15-20x over the past 5 decades (performed by the main Ailey company as well as Ailey II (the training company). This one piece fills me with such joy. The video below is just a 3-minute compendium of the full piece.

The Ross Sisters is a trainwreck, so lurid I'm not sure how their moves were allowed especially when they hang thier hoo-has over their faces.

Arlene and Kenny from American Bandstand , dancing while hiding secrets.
They were the squeaky-clean Kardashians of their era, and “Bandstand” could easily claim the title as the first reality show. Millions of kids from Brooklyn to Beverly Hills ran home from school every weekday to watch them dance, imitate their styles and fantasize about their lives.
What they didn’t know was that Arlene and several of the other female dancers, and most of the handsome teen boys, were gay.
"And the one thing that really shocked me was that those boys who were 14 and 15 and 16 were sleeping with each other.”

Michael Jeter's dance at r58 is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Aty times it looks as if his torso is floating in the air independent of his rubber legs.
What i love about this dance (and why i like it so much more than the many Bob Fosse dances linked here, as beautiful as they are) is that it really makes you feel the joy of dancing. Fosse's are so precise and meticulous--they're amazing, and wonderful to behold, but they're never as much fun as something like the Grand Hotel dance, or the Joan McCracken dance to "Pass that Peace Pipe" in Good News.

I love the moment in Giselle when she is transformed into a Wili, the ghostly spirit of women who were betrayed by their lovers. Here's Natalia Osipova - a wild and reckless performer, but dancing here as if possessed.

Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell dancing "Begin the Beguine" is the best dance to come from Hollywood. A lot of great stuff came from Hollywood, but that one stands above them all.
However, when I want to lighten my mood and to laugh, I play "Baby, You Knock Me Out," from "It's Always Fair Weather." Cyd Charisse and an entire boxing gymnasium full of men. Some of the men are much the worse for the wear, but not all. The dancing is spirited. The music and lyrics are very funny. And then there is Cyd Charisse's skirt. My favorite dance costume to come out of Hollywood. It has a life of its own. It couldn't possibly do what it does unless it was perfectly drafted, perfectly cut, perfectly stitched and made from the precisely right fabric. There is a lot of good craft in this silly number and it always makes me smile.
