Popular, Long-Running Shows You Never Got Into

The Bachelor/Bachelorette - I don't care about these vapid people

The Real Housewives of Anything - See Above

by Anonymousreply 54April 22, 2020 2:30 AM

I never watched those either. I mean those type of shows a subset of trashy reality television that has its fanbase, but a lot of people just aren't into.

by Anonymousreply 1April 20, 2020 4:40 PM

Downton Abbey, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones.

by Anonymousreply 2April 20, 2020 4:46 PM

CSI anything.

by Anonymousreply 3April 20, 2020 4:47 PM

I've never seen a single moment of "The Real Housewives of Podunk" (or anywhere else).

by Anonymousreply 4April 20, 2020 4:48 PM

I've never seen an episode of Modern Family. Don't know why, because it looks like something I'd like, and I've liked the other shows the writers/creators did. I've just never felt the urge to check it out.

by Anonymousreply 5April 20, 2020 4:56 PM

NCIS anything. How are these shows so popular? Then again, we have Trump as President, so I guess that speaks to the mentality of the average American.

by Anonymousreply 6April 20, 2020 5:01 PM

This shit is part of the breakdown of reality in American culture, which led us to the shit reality-show president that we have right now and having to deal with morons who think that the truth is whatever they believe it to be. If people are willing to buy this TV nonsense as "reality," then maybe their sense of what is "real" has been skewed.

by Anonymousreply 7April 20, 2020 5:13 PM

The Sopranos, Breaking Bas, Call Saul. Just not into gangster shows.

by Anonymousreply 8April 20, 2020 5:13 PM

I saw the first 10 minutes of 'Grey's Anatomy' about 50 years ago, and it appears to still be on the air. Was not interested in another medical soap opera.

by Anonymousreply 9April 20, 2020 5:16 PM

Never got into the Sopranos or The Wire, or Oz. Modern Family was good for a while, now it sucks. No Real Housewives of anything or Kardashians. You have to be too stupid to live to like those.

by Anonymousreply 10April 20, 2020 5:16 PM

Game of Thrones. The Sopranos. The Wire. Modern Family. The West Wing.

by Anonymousreply 11April 20, 2020 6:10 PM

any and all "reality" shows

by Anonymousreply 12April 20, 2020 6:18 PM

I've never seen Game of Thrones either. Doesn't look interesting to me

by Anonymousreply 13April 20, 2020 7:24 PM

God, where to start:

M*A*S*H

Designing Women

The Simpsons

South Park

Grey's Anatomy

The Wire

CSI: Whatever

Hill Street Blues

Law and Order

The West Wing

The Affair

Ray Donovan

Modern Family

30 Rock

The Voice

America's Got Talent

by Anonymousreply 14April 20, 2020 7:33 PM

Seinfeld.

NCIS, CSI or any crime procedural on CBS.

by Anonymousreply 15April 20, 2020 7:38 PM

Seinfeld - yeah, I forgot about that one.

by Anonymousreply 16April 20, 2020 7:44 PM

Just about any Chuck Lorre show--Two and a Half Men, Two Broke Girls, The Big Bang Theory, that one on Netflix of Kathy Bates running a pot dispensary.

I tried with all of them, most of them have decent casts but overall they just aren't that funny.

by Anonymousreply 17April 20, 2020 7:53 PM

Two Broke Girls is NOT a Chuck Lorre Show.

by Anonymousreply 18April 20, 2020 8:34 PM

How I Met Your Mother. Not funny. No likeable characters.

All that reality show dreck: Housewives, Bachelor, Survivor, Big Brother, Kardashians, MasterChef. How many times can one watch petty, self-absorbed people manufacture conflict to get screen time?

The only one I enjoyed watching was The Great British Bake Off. I don't bake, but they made it interesting and the contestants weren't backstabbing drama queens.

I laugh at the ignorant fraus who think The Bachelor/Bachelorette is romantic. The contestants are attention whores pretending to be looking for the love of their life, to get their 15 minutes.

Wasn't there a recent DL thread complaining about some Housewives behaving badly? Hello! You expect them to be classy? Rich doesn't automatically mean classy. Many of them aren't even that wealthy. Just narcissists who'll do anything for fame and a large paycheck.

These shows hire the most obnoxious people who will start shit. The situations are staged and edited to maximize the drama. At least with traditional fictional shows, the actors are playing roles and not displaying their own messy selves.

A generation was raised thinking this behavior is normal and these mediocrities should be admired.

And get off my lawn!

by Anonymousreply 19April 20, 2020 8:34 PM

r19 is one of those people who think only the "younger generation" watches these shows, or that most people who watch reality shows take them seriously

by Anonymousreply 20April 20, 2020 8:42 PM

R20 is ready with the snark but not adept at reading comprehension.

What part of frau did you not understand? Since when were they part of the younger generation? Middle-aged housewives and gays with bad taste made The Bachelor/Bachelorette popular.

"Get off my lawn" was the tongue-in-cheek part of my little rant. I'm in my thirties, but that must be terribly old for you.

A young relative, 21, admires Kim K. The teenage children of several friends like plenty of reality show twats. We are all influenced, to some degree, by the TV shows we watched while growing up. People take them seriously enough that these shows have outlasted traditional television and attention whores like the Kardashians got wealthy off it. If people weren't taking them seriously, then these dubious celebs wouldn't have careers. They wouldn't be able to sell their products to the public. People who watch are invested enough to buy whatever these celebs are shilling. Did you forget how Kylie Jenner made her money? Fashion people took Kendall Jenner seriously enough to give her a modelling career, when she's not even good at it.

You only need to look on DL to see some posters are as obsessed with Survivor contestants and Real Housewives as much as others who comment endlessly on Timmy Chalamet and Tom Holland.

Try reading more, hon. That might help.

by Anonymousreply 21April 20, 2020 9:18 PM

American Idol, The Voice, Anything with that drama queen Gordon Ramsey

by Anonymousreply 22April 20, 2020 9:23 PM

"The Golden Girls."

by Anonymousreply 23April 20, 2020 9:40 PM

R18 My bad on 2 Broke Girls. I still don't think it's funny.

by Anonymousreply 24April 20, 2020 9:40 PM

I've seen one episode of Will & Grace and one episode of The Good Wife, both to see the guest star (not the same one). I didn't feel the need to watch more.

by Anonymousreply 25April 20, 2020 9:40 PM

The Golden Girls.. Never "got it"

by Anonymousreply 26April 20, 2020 9:42 PM

I don't watch any reality shows (except "The Amazing Race" and stuff on Food Network.) Regular shows?

Lost

The Sopranos

Game of Thrones

Star Trek (in any of its iterations)

Gunsmoke

Friends

How I Met Your Mother

Grey's Anatomy

The West Wing

by Anonymousreply 27April 20, 2020 9:45 PM

Law and Order and any of its off-shoots

The Walking Dead

NCIS and any of its spinoffs

Grey's Anatomy,

RuPaul's Drag Race

by Anonymousreply 28April 20, 2020 9:47 PM

I never could get into The West Wing and I stuck around for a couple of seasons. First of all, NOBODY EVER talked in endless, flowery monologs--especially civil servants and politicians. I found that really tedious, plus the overly optimistic nature of liberals really obnoxious.

I much prefer the writing of The Good Wife/The Good Fight (if we're comparing political shows), its more realistic because it shows the hypocrisy on both sides and doesn't always have a "liberal good guys win the day" outcome.

And before I get called a right winger, I am a liberal/progressive/Democrat (apply your label), I just think if you're going to have a political show, it should be somewhat grounded in reality.

by Anonymousreply 29April 20, 2020 9:51 PM

I've never been drawn to any of the "survivor" show and never watched any of the X Has Talent / Voice / Idol shows. (With the exception of the Susan Boyle clip.)

by Anonymousreply 30April 20, 2020 10:11 PM

r21, if you read more you wouldn't be making generalizations about an entire generation based on a relative of yours. Maybe you should have studied logic.

by Anonymousreply 31April 21, 2020 3:56 AM

Have never seen an episodes of Friends. Never liked Seinfeld.

by Anonymousreply 32April 21, 2020 3:58 AM

R20, R31 = OP

Bitch puh-leeze. My OPINION is based on the many people I know. I'm not writing a thesis for a doctorate in Social Science. I'm not declaring that EVERY young person watches reality shows. Young people (teens to early twenties) are more impressionable than older generations, thus, a good number of them buy into the hype and superficiality of such programming. Who have we seen waiting in long lines to meet the Kardashians when they make a public appearance to promote something? Mostly young people.

You get triggered over a minor statement on DL, a website that revels in making fun of all types of people and groups. Where the fuck do you think you are? Take your phony superior attitude to Jezebel, Celebitchy, or wherever SJW poseurs gather.

So convenient that you cherry-pick one sentence and act like it's the only thing I wrote. I criticized people who I thought were foolish for liking reality show crap: middle-aged women, some gays, and the younger generation. But you only defend the younger generation. You are SO butthurt over mild criticism of that group but completely silent about criticism of middle-aged women and a subset of gay people. How revealing.

You write that I'm "one of those people who think only the 'younger generation' watches these shows. . ." You're making a generalization yourself. One of 'those' people. Pray tell, which people are YOU talking about? Elaborate and you'll reveal your hypocrisy. Are they older women, fat men, or the elderly? You've already typed nasty assumptions of those groups on DL. You also label anyone who disagrees with you as being elderly or Republican. What a transparent troll.

Let's look at some of your past "gems":
You're probably a frau, most of them are Republicans.
. . .but fat and ugly men go on mass shooting sprees if women don't pay attention to them.
. . .the coping tool for elderly people is to be racist, homophobic, and xenophobic. That's why elderly people love Trump.

Generalizing much? Going by your own feeble logic, you're saying all fat & ugly men are mass murderers. You're saying all elderly people are racist/homophobic/xenophobic and voted for Trump. You ignore the many fraus who didn't vote for him. But that's what cherry-picking phonies do.

Whaddayaknow, a fool accusing others of behavior of which he himself is guilty. How terrible that others make fun of particular groups here, but if you're doing it, it's okay. Pot meet kettle.

Where are the W&Ws for your complaint on this thread? That's right, there are none. You're on your little island, population: 1 hypocrite. Don't forget to upvote yourself or use a sock puppet account to come to your defense.

Another example of your abysmal self-awareness on a thread titled "We're [sic] you bullied by a family member as a child?":
How wussy do you have to be to be bullied by a girl?

(You wrote this to the OP on that thread, who later clarified that his sister, 14 months older, bullied him through manipulation, not violence).

As usual, you make ridiculous assumptions. And you've been so casual in your ageism and misogyny. What you got in response:
"Wussy"?
You were born in the late 1970s or early 1980s right? In the midwest?
I think I can carbon date and GPS your toxic masculinity by measuring the outdated-ness of your anti-femme slang...
—Ooze

And from me you got:
Maybe she's older by many years. Maybe her bullying took the form of psychological manipulation instead of physical force. You weren't given many details, but you sure are an insensitive prick.

I called it correctly. Look at you. Pretending you're some kind of SJW, but what you really are is a hypocritical troll, and a sanctimonious ignoramus one at that. Hey, that should be the scientific name for a new species. You're the first one to be discovered. Congratulations, cuntboy!

You can take a seat and fuck yourself, you self-described millennial.

by Anonymousreply 33April 21, 2020 12:58 PM

The US version of The Office. I’d seen every episode of the UK original and didn’t feel the urge to watch the rehash.

by Anonymousreply 34April 21, 2020 1:05 PM

I've managed to avoid ever watching an entire episode of M*A*S*H.

by Anonymousreply 35April 21, 2020 1:47 PM

...However, it took me 20 years to watch an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, and I instantly fell in love and binged the whole thing.

by Anonymousreply 36April 21, 2020 1:48 PM

Star Trek in any of its incarnations

Ozzie and Harriet

Ellen's talk show

Rachael Ray's talk show

Game of Thrones

Oz

Top Chef, Iron Chef (whatever the cooking competition shows are called)

Gordon Ramsey's show

CSI and NCIS

All of the reality shows minus the first few seasons of DWTS

by Anonymousreply 37April 21, 2020 1:55 PM

There's too many to list.

Game of Thrones is one I thought I might actually like, but never started -so I missed the wave to talk about it in real time with others. I could start now, but meh.

The Office

Parks and Rec

Will and Grace

by Anonymousreply 38April 21, 2020 2:03 PM

How I Met Your Mother

King of Queens

by Anonymousreply 39April 21, 2020 2:06 PM

The Big Bang Theory

Any CSI

Bones

by Anonymousreply 40April 21, 2020 2:09 PM

Any "reality" show. I have enough reality.

by Anonymousreply 41April 21, 2020 2:12 PM

Hmmm, "cuntboy" will get me laughable accusations of misogyny from hypocritical misogynist OP/R20/R31. Never actually used any form of that word on a woman, but anyway. . .

A word that fittingly describes you and your shitty troll logic:

You have zero credibility, [bold]ASSWIPE[/bold].

by Anonymousreply 42April 21, 2020 2:16 PM

The "Met Your Mother" series; Bones; any CSI

It frustrates me that they are in syndication and taking up space. If these shows are so popular, wouldn't their fans stream them or buy DVD sets?

by Anonymousreply 43April 21, 2020 2:16 PM

Seinfeld. Just seemed like a lot of unattractive, whiney Jews. At least Woody Allen surrounded himself with attractive people in his movies.

by Anonymousreply 44April 21, 2020 2:19 PM

I usually watch the first episodes of "Survivor", hopeful. Then it becomes just like every other 'season' and I lose interest.

by Anonymousreply 45April 21, 2020 2:40 PM

Ya think R33 has...a liiiiiiittle too much time on his hands...???

Calm down, pal, there are more important things in the world than an anonymous chat site...

by Anonymousreply 46April 21, 2020 3:03 PM

LQTM. An asinine hypocrite who thinks he's fooling anyone is mildly amusing.

R46 is OP and R20 and R31.

You like pretending to be multiple commenters when anyone can see your comment history, troll?

How predictable. You acted just as I said you would. You can't defend your posts and you know it.

[italic]Yawn.[/italic]

NEXT!

by Anonymousreply 47April 21, 2020 3:11 PM

Anything with Mary Tyler Moore after MTM .

by Anonymousreply 48April 21, 2020 4:35 PM

Tiger King

by Anonymousreply 49April 21, 2020 5:25 PM

Agree with [29] in "The West Wing" that the show had this elevation all of its own that I admire the art and craft but just couldn't connect with it to want to watch it all the time.

by Anonymousreply 50April 22, 2020 12:49 AM

.ER.

by Anonymousreply 51April 22, 2020 12:52 AM

Everything except for The Mary Tyler Moor Show, Designing Women, Seinfeld and Will & Grace.

by Anonymousreply 52April 22, 2020 12:53 AM

Friends, Frasier, Grey’s Anatomy, any CSI show, all those singing competition shows.

by Anonymousreply 53April 22, 2020 12:53 AM

These days there are 1 million billion jillion TV shows. No earthly way to watch them all.
