Or would you rather it were more INTERNATIONAL?
Do you American gurls like it that most the people on this site are American?
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 21, 2020 8:08 PM |
It doesn't matter to me one way or the other since I can't know anyone here. Everyone here is strangers on a page and I have no idea where they live.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 20, 2020 2:31 PM |
While this is an American based site and most users are American, but have plenty of posters who aren't. Especially english speaking countries like Canada, the UK, and Australia are well represented.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 20, 2020 2:33 PM |
I'm English but I like that this place is American. Occasionally I'd like to talk about stuff that's going on in England (other than the royals and mystery TV shows) - & American gays are much funnier than English gays, by a million miles.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 20, 2020 2:37 PM |
There are a lot of people from the UK here. They’re so cute. I think the US ought to colonize them.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 20, 2020 2:38 PM |
Some of the most interesting posters here, including the French movie critic (who had the best gossip) and swisschick, have been foreign.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 20, 2020 2:45 PM |
What would the weather threads be without the Norwegian?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 20, 2020 2:46 PM |
I call him “Norway”, and he ignores me.
Hasn’t Muriel given you a name, Norway?
I like Swisschick but haven’t heard from her in ages,
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 20, 2020 2:52 PM |
I would like more international posters especially from non-English speaking countries. We’re not Manvox, but we can try.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 20, 2020 3:03 PM |
I really appreciate the input from non-Americans. But as someone pointed out, no one really knows what country you're from unless you specifically mention it (and aren't lying about it).
by Anonymous | reply 9 | April 20, 2020 3:11 PM |
I'm here.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | April 20, 2020 3:17 PM |
Most people on this site are New Yorkers.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 20, 2020 3:30 PM |
I'm not a "gurl" but I figured I would answer anyway. I don't think about where someone lives when they post, sometimes they will tell us for context but we all have more in common than that which separates us. An opinion is an opinion, the location where that opinion comes from rarely matters.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 20, 2020 3:35 PM |
Nobody on here cares about other countries because America is number one.

R14 Yeah in corona deaths maybe.

Even Darfur Orphan. Sorry, little guy.

I’m American. I prefer a diverse group. People from other countries contribute a great deal to this site - different perspectives from different cultures, etc .
Ou sont les Francais? La France me manque beaucoup. ❤️
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 20, 2020 3:40 PM |
I'd like foreign input on Follies or threads such as " What's with the police cars at 53rd and 8th?"
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 20, 2020 3:42 PM |
R3 Examples of gay guys being funnier?

I’m an Anglophile so I love hearing from my cousins across the pond, even about random things.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 20, 2020 4:17 PM |
I wish people mentioned their location more often.what good is a weather or bird migration report without a location?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 20, 2020 5:27 PM |
They generally do on the weather threads, R21. The Norwegian always does.
Do we ever hear from anyone in South Africa?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 20, 2020 5:35 PM |
Don’t forget your accents, R17. Où is where and ou is or.
I love the foreign posters here and think they add a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 20, 2020 5:39 PM |
Anglophile at R20 Since you're in LA your cousins across the pond are the Chinese. Or did you mean Sinophile. I know its easy to mix up the two.

I'm not an American, but I love coming here to read about stuff going on in the world, especially now, and to hear from non-Americans.
But I am appalled at how incredibly xenophobic most of you are. I mean you call anyone you don't agree with a Russian, like it's a slur. I wish this wouldn't happen as it drives people away and we miss out on good stories and interesting gossip. It really pisses me off! I was following a great thread and the most interesting contributor (a foreigner) left because you guys were such mean cunts. Can't we all try to be nicer to each other regardless of our backgrounds? The whole world is fucked now and online forums are a refuge and a source of intertainment for those of us stuck at home. Let's just have fun and welcome fellow gays from around the world!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 20, 2020 7:44 PM |
R25 It's kind of refreshing how honest and precise the meaner ones can be. I applaud dissent from fake nice. We're not friends. We're not Sunday picnic basketing. We're distracting ourselves and letting or snark flag fly.
Damaged people are mean. It's not about you. Gays have to deal with a lot of crap. I'm sorry but we have to be mean sometimes.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 20, 2020 8:19 PM |
R26 Snark is one thing. I love snark and sarcasm myself. But calling someone names and dismissing their opinions solely based on where they come from? That's just not acceptable. And I see it happening a lot here. Why do a lot of Americans think that someone's opinion is invalid just because they are [insert nationality here]? Your president tends to do that a lot too.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 20, 2020 8:26 PM |
I’m Scottish and I love America and Americans.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 20, 2020 8:36 PM |
R26 Racial minorities go through a lot to and have every reason on earth to be mean and angry as well, but that's not necessarily the case. Your just making excuses now.
No one has the right to be a mean asshole to anyone.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 20, 2020 8:39 PM |
R29 maybe not but it sure can be hilarious sometimes.
Btw, anyone can be a racial minority depending on where on Earth they go. It's a matter of geography.

Don’t tell them about Manvox, R8.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 20, 2020 8:50 PM |
R28 What do the Scottish think of Trump since he's half Scottish after all. I saw on television a while back how some Scottish citizens were complaining that Trump doesn't do anything for them since his mother came from that particular area of Scotland.
If they think Trump is the type to help them because his mother is from Scotland, then they have another thing coming. Trump doesn't do shit that doesn't directly benefit him.
And the whole world is finding that out every day.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 20, 2020 8:51 PM |

Who are "we" exactly?
The DL isn't interested in the minutiae of British day to day life...why should they be?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 20, 2020 9:12 PM |
As much as some like to pretend otherwise, I've concluded that Britain, France, Norway, etc. aren't all that different from the US anymore. I'd argue that there's probably a bigger real difference between someone from New York & someone from, say, Youngstown (Ohio) than there is between New York & London or Paris, or between Youngstown and cities like Leeds or Reims.
I can think of more than a few times I've conversed online with Europeans for days or weeks before even realizing they weren't in the US. One epic example was a guy from "Birmingham"... I thought 'Bama, until he said 'Brum ;-)
Another epic time was a guy who said he was from St. Petersburg, then thought it was HILARIOUS when he realized I thought he was in Florida. Apparently, Russians themselves always call the city in Florida "St-Pete" to disambiguate it from their own.
I mean, hell, just watch some Norwegian TV shows on Netflix. Aside from most of the houses looking like they were furnished at a more expensive version of Ikea, they eat TACOS, for god's sake. And pizza. McDonalds is everywhere, and not at all special.
The only huge difference I've noticed between the US & Norway is, Norwegian small towns tend to be more "complete"... they have the kind of amenities & services that are practically UNHEARD of in small (<10k pop) American towns, or at least have them within 10-25km, max. And they have far more competent city planning. A builder in Norway would NEVER be allowed to just shit out 20,000 new houses practically overnight without first setting aside land for things like schools, municipal services, etc. Compared to Norway, American suburbia feels like Brazilian favelas with nicer houses, but no planning to speak of. Britain & France are similar... towns aren't necessarily any DENSER overall than most of the US, but there's unquestionably more deliberate city planning, and less random chaos indiscriminately shat upon the countryside.

You don't really know what you're talking about. Most of the towns in those countries are old or ancient...and a lot of them have lost basic amenities over recent decades, in France especially, where you have MANY areas that have absolutely NOTHING left...not even a cafe.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 20, 2020 9:50 PM |
> Most of the towns in those countries are old or ancient
Europeans aren't nearly as fond of living in quaint ancient villages as we (Americans) like to imagine. Most Europeans live in houses and apartments that are as new as, or newer than, American ones. For every village and town in Britain with a library whose "new" wing is older than the United States, there are a half-dozen new towns that didn't exist prior to 1950, and probably 90% of the OLD towns' modern-day footprints didn't exist prior to 1950, either. Southern Italy is practically LITTERED with small towns that are practically abandoned other than a few old people and a few American expats with wealthy parents who think it's chic to live in an old village and renovate buildings that were falling apart in Mussolini's day.
Go look at a city like Malmo (Sweden) on Google Earth. It really doesn't look all that different than cities like Minneapolis... suburbs, downtown, freeways, and all. Seriously, just pick random spots to drop down to street view and look around. Do it for other European cities that are big enough to be visible as urban areas from space, but small enough that you've probably never heard of them. Northern Italy vaguely resembles South & Central Florida (well, if Florida had hills, anyway).

I wish DL were more international. I'm an American, but Americans often need a kick in the ass to be reminded that they are not the only ones who occupy the planet and have an opinion.

St. Petersburg (aka, St. Pete), is a different city from nearby St. Pete Beach, in Florida.
[quote] R25: But I am appalled at how incredibly xenophobic most of you are. I mean you call anyone you don't agree with a Russian, like it's a slur
The labeling of someone as “Russian” is simply a convenient label to use for anyone whose posts distort and lie so as to seemingly support Trump, or are otherwise anti-American. It really means something like “Kremlin-hired propagandist”. It is not meant to be anti-Russian in general. We’ve had a poster from somewhere in the last year or so who is either in Russia, or in a former USSR country, and he’s always been treated politely or ignored. As UN:
[quote] “I’ve voted for every Democratic candidate for President for decades, including Hillary, but I just can’t trust Biden. I’m voting for Trump “
This, and statements like it, are too stupid to take seriously, so the author could easily be labeled “Boris”.

R33, Trump is not popular in Scotland. Whenever he comes here to play golf in his private fantasy kingdom it causes havoc and inconvenience because of the security arrangements. On one occasion protesters lined the course with Mexican flags. He also seems to think that he is entitled to special treatment because his mother was Scottish. Fat chance. Trump’s relatives on the Isle Of Lewis play down their connections to him, and never speak to the press. I know this because my husband has family there. I like to tease him with the possibility that he is related. It drives him crazy. He is a Macleod, as was Trump’s mother. Everyone on Lewis is related in some way.
