When Trump was elected, I think I may have died and gone to hell. This seems to be my life in hell. I hoped the United States would never have to see anything like Trump nor this batch of criminal Republicans...it is hell.

I miss Puff the Magic Dragon.

I love how those silent movies had to basically invent special effects as they filmed.

Douglas Fairbanks only made it to 56. I just hope I make it long enough to tell the tale of having lived through the nadir of presiidencies.

Those who lived before the Internet were the last generation to really live life to the fullest.

I love these old movies!! Recently watched King Kong (1933) and was amazed how good the special effect were. It's 100 yrs ago!! What is good, will always be good!
Oh...but majik carpet ride will always remind me of my ex-Frenchie. The French are obsessed with Steppenwolf. It's weird. And he had a big, floppy uncut penis. What was I supposed to do with THAT?

R11 agree. The Internet has ruined everything.

The internet is good for many things, but Social Media is good for nothing.

R12 - this book from the 70's goes into fascinating detail as to how they developed and refined the special effects for Kong as they went along - stop motion; matt paintings, giant models, miniature projection, etc. It also points out that the filmmakers changed the scale of Kong himself because he looked too small in the initial NYC effects shots. I read it in Junior High and it is one big reason I went on to film school.

Yes.

I remember that feeling on Saturday mornings up til about age 9. I'm glad I have that memory.
If I was rich and had my days free to do as I please, it would come back. But the drudgery of shit jobs, poverty, etc. weighs my spirit down.

STAY HOME

I used to make sure my shades in my bedroom were fully drawn / pulled down, because I knew these two girls in my neighborhood were going to ride past my bedroom window on their magic carpet and stop and stare in the window at me.

My life has never been a magic carpet ride, OP, but maybe that's not all bad. If I had expected things to be nonstop kittens and rainbows and personal happiness, I would have found real life unbearably disappointing.
But instead, I've learned to endure godawful things when there's no alternative, and wrest what happiness I can from this vale of tears, when possible. Maybe that's the right approach to take right now.

Yes. I remember being happy, mildly annoyed by my family, but a happy hippie, protesting the war in Vietnam. Fast forward, marry husband after many years together and then poof he is done. Try to regroup . After many years have courage to have another boyfriend . He goes poof too.
I just accept how my life is
