This episode of Cold Case. A gay cop played by Chad Everett wants to reopen the investigation into the murder of his partner. Turns out it was a gay bashing set up by the victim's own father. The final scene is the dying cop being reunited with his lover.
When Hotch's wife was killed on Criminal Minds.

OP, was his partner also gay and they in a relationship. Or do you mean partner as in boyfriend. I always get choked up about us being discriminated against in real life scenarios. There's an episode of L&O where cops left a fellow cop to be ambushed by gang members. The court room scenes make me emotional every time.

They were cops who became lovers. This was the first time I remember a gay kiss on prime time tv where nobody made a big deal of it.

Not even my favorite show and, God knows, Alicia's character annoyed me so many times, but the scene when she's driving, stops at an intersection, sees a flock of birds and then her brave face crumbles down and she just starts bawling, with the realization that Will's dead finally hitting her like a ton of bricks, brought me to tears.
(Sorry, I don't seem to be able to find a video of that scene on YouTube.)

Cold Case had some good episodes that really tugged at your heart OP.

Rescue Me. There was a scene with Chief Reilly who didn’t accept his son being gay. He overheard him and his partner having sex and he just went and lost it. I know the man was a homophobe, but the way the actor played that role, my heart broke for him. If I can find the scene I’ll post it.

Do you know if there's anywhere to watch Cold Case online R10? It's one of those shows I didn't watch consistently, I would just sort of happen upon it and always enjoyed when I did.

When Allison (Mia Farrow) left Peyton Place...it haunts me to this day. And, yes, I'm serious.

Another episode of Cold Case set during the AIDS epidemic. The victim's partner is positive so he goes on crusade to out a group of prominent men. The victim discovers his own brother is closeted. He confronts him and his brother kills him. The partner with HIV gets married in the final scene. As he walks down the aisle he sees the spirit of his former lover.

Isn't Cold Case another show in limbo because of music rights? I believe it's not on DVD for that reason.

I loved Cold Case when it was on. I hope they can work out the music rights.
Whatever happened to the blonde lead?

Another great Cold Case was the dancer who was killed by his jealous brother.
Loved that show and teared up more than a few times watching it.

That St. Elsewhere episode is one of my top ten episodes of all shows. I still have my VHS copy.
The episode where Pete is returned to Jack after going missing also kills me.
