I call BS on this. Gay men were always a visible presence on flight crews (and in the industry in general), but since 9/11, no one with any other employment options is "flocking to" these jobs.

by Anonymousreply 8April 17, 2020 1:31 AM

Public school teachers, especially in New York where the teachers' union is still very strong.

by Anonymousreply 13April 17, 2020 1:48 AM

r13 Gays are frugal and wise investors.

by Anonymousreply 14April 17, 2020 2:11 AM

I've honestly never met a straight male who works in HR r10. Every guy has been gay.

by Anonymousreply 15April 17, 2020 2:13 AM

HR has been taken over by fat white fraus, but mainly black women and bitchy gays... basically anyone who has a persecution complex and likes to pass judgement.

In the past 10-20 years? There have been gay flight attendants since the early 70's.

Gays have always been in advertising, marketing, PR and HR.

This isn't new.

[quote]None of these careers mentioned make sense considering the majority of the people on DL claim to make over $200,000 a year...😏

I make over $200,000 a year, but I have a career in a STEM field which gay men tend to avoid like COVID-19. So I've been pretty much utterly alone as a gay man during my 20+ year career. Thanks gays!!!

Also, I used to be on the Growlr app for bears, and would always notice that in the About section, most guys would leave the "Work:" section blank or put in silly jokes such as "Work: Too Much!" or "Work: Yes!" One of the few exceptions to this were guys in media who would write "Work: Film/TV" or "Work:Media". Gee, I wonder why *they* didn't leave out their career info? Oh that's right, that's one of the few jobs stupid Americans respect and admire: entertainment.

Well, I'll go console myself with my fat paychecks from my boring math job!

by Anonymousreply 40April 17, 2020 2:21 PM

You could always type in "cunt," r40. You're exemplary at it.

by Anonymousreply 41April 17, 2020 2:26 PM

by Anonymousreply 43April 17, 2020 2:54 PM

Male Flight Attendants have always been gay, it's not a recent thing.

Also interior designers, famously former actor William Haines.

by Anonymousreply 52April 17, 2020 8:44 PM

I've never known gays to be in advertising like that. Before the 2000s that is.

by Anonymousreply 54April 17, 2020 8:51 PM

R49 I think you meant "PROSTATUTE"

by Anonymousreply 55April 17, 2020 8:52 PM

I was, r55. Starting in 1978. I got out eventually, but I met plenty of other gay men, particularly writers and art directors. And this one account executive named Bill who used to come down to my office and tell me about his butt plugs. Oh, we were definitely a thing in the 20th century, gays in advertising.

by Anonymousreply 56April 17, 2020 8:55 PM

Um graphic designer um. Um look at my cleavage um.

Um. Remember fish tank screensavers um.

I first got into advertising in the 90s. By that point, there was already a large professional organization (NYACN?) based in NYC of gays and lesbians working in advertising, media, and communications. That was 30 years ago.

R12 You have me literally crying. Plain honesty online...nothing like it.

R65 That was a mess. I kind of wish social media had been around for that. I feel like the Twitter dragging of Liza would’ve been epic.

I’ll say Influencer/Content Creator, Starbucks barista (there’s always one gay guy at Starbucks), and gay porn. Especially on the West coast. It’s not uncommon to find gays who have done porn a few times.

by Anonymousreply 79April 18, 2020 1:58 AM

R53 Haven't you seen Mad Men? Sal!

by Anonymousreply 82April 18, 2020 7:28 AM

r80, You logic is illogical. Sal was one man among a group of pussyhounds. What other LGB characters, within Sterling & Co. was there? Pls become better informed.

by Anonymousreply 83April 18, 2020 7:47 AM

R61

Ballet always had a large number of gay males, so this is nothing new.

What has changed over past few decades is more American young boys/men studying ballet and going onto becoming professional dancers.

by Anonymousreply 84April 18, 2020 9:25 AM

Am going to add real estate.

Yes, there have always been gay RE brokers, sales persons, etc.... but things have racketed up another level in past decade or so. Shows like Flipped, Million Dollar Listing along with other media have shown gay males they can be out, proud and still make a good living in RE.

by Anonymousreply 85April 18, 2020 9:30 AM

At least in Washington, DC

Lots and Lots and Lots of gay lawyers

by Anonymousreply 86April 18, 2020 11:33 AM

True, r86, but it's hardly just "the past 10 to ~20 years." I lived in DC most of my adult life, mostly knew boomers and Xers, lots and lots and lots of whom were lawyers.
