Paul McCartney calls on Chinese government to halt 'wet' markets, 'medieval' bat eating

Paul McCartney decried exotic Chinese "wet" markets as the original source of the coronavirus pandemic, calling for the government to halt the activity during a discussion on Howard Stern's SiriusXM program Tuesday.

Scientists believe a "wet" market in Wuhan, China — where live and dead creatures including bats are sold as food and for alleged medicinal purposes — is the likely source of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

"I really hope that this will mean that the Chinese government … will say, ‘OK, guys, we have really got to get super hygienic around here.’ " McCartney, 77, a long-time supporter of animal rights, said on the program about the markets. "Let’s face it, come on, it is a little bit medieval, eating bats."

"They might as well be, you know, letting off atomic bombs because this is affecting the whole world," he added. "Whoever is responsible for this is at war with the world and itself; it just doesn't make sense any sense at all."

He called banning the markets "a very good idea for them, not just us. They don't need all of the people dying. And what's it for? These quite medieval practices. They just need to clean up their act. … This may lead to it. If this doesn’t, I don’t know what will."

THEY WILL DO NOTHING.

by Anonymousreply 1April 16, 2020 4:58 PM

China: won't you listen to what the man said?

by Anonymousreply 2April 16, 2020 4:58 PM

Bump.

by Anonymousreply 3April 17, 2020 11:08 AM

I hate him. How come he's not dead yet?

by Anonymousreply 4April 17, 2020 11:13 AM

If China could, for years, maintain and enforce a one child policy they can fucking shut down their wet markets. The entire world should cut them off until they do.

by Anonymousreply 5April 17, 2020 11:14 AM

Oh dear. He's about to be media-cancelled. All of our television news channels are owned by entertainment companies with significant interests in the Asian and especially the Chinese markets.

Look for negative stories about him soon.

On the bright side, maybe they'll interview Heather "me leg!! me leg!!" Mills so she can tell us how awful he is and we can relish again in how awful she is.

by Anonymousreply 6April 17, 2020 11:15 AM

He's right. And as R5 says cut them off until they do. No incoming tourists or migrants or travel to anywhere in the West, cut trade as much as is feasible

by Anonymousreply 7April 17, 2020 11:18 AM

He may also be cancelled for "invoking long-standing racist tropes against Asian people" or whatever Berkeley farts out this time.

by Anonymousreply 8April 17, 2020 12:37 PM

The Pauls actually have a pretty messy history with Asian racism. And then there was the time a Paul was held in a Japanese prison for ten days because his fingerprints didn't match those on the passport he was carrying. (At least one of the Pauls is missing fingers…)

Paul McCartney and the Beatles have now been erased from China.

by Anonymousreply 10April 17, 2020 12:59 PM

This means he is racist, right?.

by Anonymousreply 11April 17, 2020 1:00 PM

Sure China needs to end its wet markets but who gives a crap what Paul McCartney thinks?

by Anonymousreply 12April 17, 2020 1:08 PM

It’s telling that the only public figure willing to tell the truth about the wet markets (that they are constantly generating new diseases and thus are a threat to humanity) is a popstar who is pushing 80.

Cute look:

Instead of lecturing China on something the world is already blindingly aware of anyway, why doesn't that cheap fucker commit some of his money to fighting the disease in his home country.

by Anonymousreply 15April 17, 2020 8:24 PM

Keep on speaking up, Paul!

by Anonymousreply 16April 17, 2020 8:33 PM

Thank god he stopped using that brown shoe polish hair dye. It looked utterly ridiculous.

true them markets are nasty as hell !!!!! but it came from someone at the lab near there getting infecting and on it spread....some good info on u tube that states such..

by Anonymousreply 18April 17, 2020 11:39 PM

R17, one of them still dyes his hair very dark and/or refuses to update his wig.

by Anonymousreply 19April 18, 2020 12:01 AM

r13 they may be a threat to humanity for many reasons, but they might not be responsible for it in the way people think, i.e. eating bats. They probably roosted in the roofs/rafters, and their guano aerosolized and infected workers at the market. They might also be a reservoir, but not the origin. The swine cull probably exacerbated the whole scenario.

Point being, McCartney is a long time vegetarian who's using this to promote his beliefs.
