Also, what were the father's underlying conditions? Were there any neurological pre-conditions?

Most people succumbing to Covid-19 are elderly and the mental decline is likely indicative of dementia.
Ask any family member to pay closer attention to when their loved one began to deteriorate mentally, and most will realize it had started 10-12 years earlier. Alzheimer’s isn’t like turning off a light switch, it can often be slow and steady.
