Solid Article from NPR Debunks Michigan Hippie Doctor, Has Good Advice About Shopping in Covid-19

[quote] Many shoppers are now following elaborate routines to disinfect their groceries, thanks to a viral video put out by a Michigan family doctor. But all of the experts we spoke with say that disinfecting and hand-washing every last item in your grocery haul is really not necessary. You might find it comforting to know that none of these experts are doing this themselves

Please let this be true!🙏

by Anonymousreply 1April 12, 2020 2:34 PM

If the virus stays on surfaces for several day, why wouldn't it be true when paper and plastic cover most products? Also how often do you see the cashiers change their gloves AND wipe down the conveyor belt with a CLEAN cloth?

People that have exposed themselves to the virus early on and successfully fought it off will be the true victors in the next wave-- NOT the people living in plastic bubbles and weakening their immune systems with the overuse of sterilization products.

Thank you for posting this, OP. It’s good information.

Have they successfully fought it off r4? There may be longterm consequences of this virus: rumored sterilization, brain damage, lung damage, etc.

by Anonymousreply 5April 12, 2020 2:44 PM

R5 If it developed organically I'm guessing the consequences are not going to any worse than any of the 50 billion other diseases that have culled our population in the past

Thank you, I will pass this on to my maid. Hopefully it will inspire her to work a little harder at getting my shopping orders right.

I’m in r3’s camp. Pretty sure we fought it off six weeks ago.

And I’m a lazy fuck who eats questionable things and forgets to wash my hands, etc. Too much sanitizing (and worrying incessantly about it) is detrimental to overall health.

by Anonymousreply 8April 12, 2020 3:45 PM

Speaking of fighting it off, I went through a period a couple of weeks ago where I was sleeping almost the whole day and barely able to move from tiredness. It went on for about a week. I wonder if I experienced some low level version of it.

by Anonymousreply 9April 12, 2020 3:59 PM

R3 lives in a world where everyone has the same immune response because humans are all the same. Hmm, what does that sound like again?

by Anonymousreply 10April 12, 2020 4:08 PM

With all of this sanitizing where going to develop super bacteria

I don't like r3 OR r6.

However I enjoy r7's sense of humor.

by Anonymousreply 12April 12, 2020 4:54 PM

*we're going to develop super bacteria

by Anonymousreply 13April 12, 2020 4:55 PM

Why do you think we have MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) & Cdiff (Clostridium difficile)?

by Anonymousreply 14April 12, 2020 5:02 PM

So stop eating, r2. Everyone will benefit.

by Anonymousreply 15April 12, 2020 5:06 PM

"While it is possible to contract the virus [from contaminated surfaces], the majority of transmission is probably going to be from respiratory droplets, which you're exposed to when you're around other people," says Angela Rasmussen, a virologist at the Center for Infection and Immunity at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health.

Solid statement that immediately debunks the premise of the entire article.
