What Big 2020 Plans Did You Have to Cancel Because of the 'Rona?

I had a road trip mapped out from Long Beach, CA to Minnesota and back (I was going to visit Paisley Park and a bunch of Little House on the Prairie points of interest), but that's been postponed until next summer.

My 50 load weekend I had planned, turned into a 10 load weekend thanks to social distancing!

by Anonymousreply 1April 9, 2020 11:26 PM

its slowing down my divorce

by Anonymousreply 2April 9, 2020 11:30 PM

your road trip sounds like fun OP.

by Anonymousreply 3April 9, 2020 11:31 PM

LOL - apparently, there is a whole pron sub category about "fun sized guys" with HUGE guys.

by Anonymousreply 4April 9, 2020 11:32 PM

Well, two of my plans were to start going to the gym and to start dating. So I guess that's back on hold...

by Anonymousreply 5April 9, 2020 11:35 PM

There is evidently a plaque near Minnetonka that marks the place where Nellie Oelson went down on Mr. Edwards.

by Anonymousreply 6April 9, 2020 11:36 PM

where is that pic from?

by Anonymousreply 7April 9, 2020 11:37 PM

I would definitely watch that pron in OPs pic

by Anonymousreply 8April 9, 2020 11:39 PM

I don't think I've ever read an OP where the accompanying picture couldn't have been less...related.

by Anonymousreply 9April 9, 2020 11:43 PM

The original is still sexy even without the morph.

If it’s any consolation you can go to the Pomona Library that has a Wilder collection and holds a Gingerbread Social each year in February. Sorry your plans were fucked OP.

I purchased a travel trailer last fall and was going to travel with my niece and her family. Well, everything is on hold. We had a pretty full schedule for this summer. Hopefully we will get some of it in.

by Anonymousreply 12April 10, 2020 12:42 AM

That picture is hot.

Anyway, I don't wanna talk about it *sigh* I'm lucky to have a job, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 13April 10, 2020 12:44 AM

I haven’t seen Roma yet.

by Anonymousreply 14April 10, 2020 1:29 AM

Thanks, R11 -- I didn't know that and it's close enough to visit (when the lockdown is lifted).

R6, you're horrible. Keep going...

by Anonymousreply 15April 10, 2020 1:30 AM

Where can I find the pron in pic at OP and r10 ???

by Anonymousreply 16April 12, 2020 3:20 PM

It was just a menswear shoot

by Anonymousreply 17April 12, 2020 3:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 18April 12, 2020 3:54 PM

R2 curious about your divorce but I won’t ask.

by Anonymousreply 19April 12, 2020 4:33 PM

I was scheduled to retire at the end of March and my partner and I were going to Japan to see the cherry blossoms on 4/1. He was going to come back to the US after 2 weeks and I was going to have the first extended, no-definite-plans-let's-see-where-this-leads vacation in my life. Then I was heading to the midwest for a family wedding and down to TX to see some friends. We had plans to spend a week in P'town with a group of friends in the summer. P'town may still happen but everything else has gone into the trash.

I'm just hoping we survive this with our health intact (so far, so good) but I figure 2020 is a bust and I'm focusing on seeing the cherry blossoms in 2021.

I really didn’t have any particular plans for the rest of this year, other than paying off my credit card. Now, with this ongoing plague, I’m paying out much less. I may need the funds.

Curiously, I had just spent nine days in New York, where I ended up seeing six shows, returning home to Florida on Wednesday, Feb. 26th, just before all this exploded.

It’s as if I witnessed the last days of what may end up being a fabled city, soon lost to time. I doubt it will ever be the same.

by Anonymousreply 22April 12, 2020 5:08 PM

My partner's son was going to get married 2nd week of May. That's all gone to shit now. (Although I'm a bit pleased at that - happy for the couple, but I didn't look forward to 5 days in Florida in May with people I don't know).

I was going to plan a trip to Greece and Israel for the summer, but that's shelved as well.

I went to Asia for a month in January and am so glad I went when I did - that trip would be impossible now.

Gay Days Orlando is still up in the air.

[quote]Gay Days Orlando is still up in the air.

June 2 - 8, 2020

LOL - it really shouldn't be.

Like the six foot distance, ending the shelter in place order will not magically make crowds safe. The six foot distance was a guideline similar to the "two car lengths" follow distance recommended by many driving manuals, not a precise engineering specification.

Most experts agree that the shelter in place should continue in most places for a couple months. But, that's just a guideline to prevent catastrophic infection rates. There is no magical line that says Day One once the social distancing ends that it'll be safe to run around in huge crowds again.

There are going to be flare-ups and hotspots for months after the situation becomes more manageable.

Unless they come up with a vaccine, spending time with a huge crowd of people from a wide variety of geographic locations would be foolish for the immediate future.

But, you can do what you want.

by Anonymousreply 25April 12, 2020 5:36 PM

R20 Your plans sound lovely. Hope you be redirected to them in 2021!

by Anonymousreply 26April 12, 2020 5:41 PM

Thanks R26, I hope so too.

The odd thing is that, for the first time in my 45-year adult life, I can't get excited about planning a trip. I was the type of person who, as soon as I unpacked from one trip, was planning the next one. In the pre-Internet era, I'd spend hours in bookstores looking at travel guides and I had subscriptions to several travel magazines. For me, half the fun was planning the trip.

This time it's different. I don't know if I'm wary about getting my hopes up only to have them fall through again, or if I'm just scared about being around large numbers of people, but right now I'm content to let everything sit on hold for the next six months until we see where all this is headed.

by Anonymousreply 27April 12, 2020 5:48 PM

R19 but you just did

by Anonymousreply 28April 12, 2020 5:53 PM

I was going to go see my sister in Vancouver next month - not sure when I'll go now!

by Anonymousreply 29April 12, 2020 5:55 PM

R26 here. I'm 44, so jealous you are retiring at 45, but kudos to you. I am the same way about travel and we had to cancel a national park hiking trip this week, Costa Rica in three weeks, and most likely Andalucia in August & September. My boss's wife too---she ordered her travel books for this year's travel while on a layover in CDG from their trip last summer! The planning is more than half the fun!!! While I'm not ruling out Spain, it just doesn't look promising at all--- it's sad how many cases are active there and the country will probably remain closed/restricted for that fact. The rest of the world---way too many variables and no one really knows what's going to happen.

Fortunately you have easily 30 years of unlimited travel to look forward to. Hopefully this hard reset and delayed gratification will make them even more enjoyable.

by Anonymousreply 30April 12, 2020 5:58 PM

I had to cancel my trip to NYC to see Elton John at Madison Square Gardens. I also had to cancel my trip to Lisbon, Seville and Granada. The Europe trip was rescheduled to late September. I’m not sure if that is even going to be a possibility.

by Anonymousreply 31April 12, 2020 6:03 PM

I had to cancel a solo spring break trip to NYC, and any day now I have to cancel a 4 day hiking tour of the Alsace that partner and I had booked for the end of May. The flight we were booked on no longer exists, waiting to hear if American Airlines is going to give us a refund. But the tour company's customer service has been excellent.

I was going to go to this event in Los Angeles in August and hit some museums as well. Then London in the fall. But who knows, maybe if travel is back online next year it will be quiet enough to go to London in the summer of 2021.

And I forgot, I already bought all-event tickets to US figure skating nationals in January. Who knows what will happen by then? How much practice time will anyone have had by then?

by Anonymousreply 34April 12, 2020 6:32 PM

Hot pic, OP

by Anonymousreply 35April 12, 2020 6:32 PM

Was gonna sell my house. Now, hmm.

by Anonymousreply 36April 12, 2020 7:15 PM

I was booked on a 10 day cruise for March 23rd. That was a narrow escape.

by Anonymousreply 39April 12, 2020 8:29 PM

Trip to the South of France for a wedding in May... postponed.

Trip to London for theater play in June... postponed.

Cruise in the Baltic Sea in July... postponed.

by Anonymousreply 40April 12, 2020 8:35 PM

Booked a cruise of French Polynesia for November, but postponed it until at least next fall. Not getting on a ship anytime soon, if ever again. Also had plans to use our season passes to Universal Orlando at least one more time before they expire in September. Fortunately, Universal is extending the passes for the same amount of time they're closed. But even then, I doubt we'll risk going anytime soon after they open back up.

by Anonymousreply 41April 12, 2020 8:45 PM

I had a marvelous transatlantic cruise planned, my maid made sure all my diamonds and gowns were packed and ready. In Paris, I planned on dining at Maxims (thorough bidet cleanse afterwards) and then I was to tour Venice. Now I can’t search for my 9th husband, whatever will I do???

by Anonymousreply 42April 12, 2020 8:52 PM

Was also hoping to get some redecorating done around the house, but nothing is open and I really don't want to brave shopping with all the pent up Karens needing an outlet once everything opens up.

Honestly, I don't foresee any crowded events in store for the summer.

We do have tickets to see Enrique Iglesias and Ricky Martin in September. Hopefully we'll be acclimated to our masks by then.

by Anonymousreply 43April 12, 2020 9:18 PM

[quote] I'm 44, so jealous you are retiring at 45,

I'm afraid my comment wasn't clear. I referred to my 45 year ADULT life.

45+18=63, which makes me an old geezer

by Anonymousreply 44April 12, 2020 9:31 PM

But your still a pisser, r44, even if more frequently.

That's deep. It just occurred to me that folks who planned to retire this year may not be able to do so. The way the markets crashed has affected everyone but I suppose much more catastrophically for people of retirement age who planned to retire within the next two years. Even fixed benefit pension plans could be in danger until we are clear of this.

by Anonymousreply 46April 13, 2020 3:07 AM

Thanks, r18

by Anonymousreply 47April 13, 2020 3:10 AM

Cruel World festival in LA. Blondie, Bauhaus etc... they rescheduled for September but I don’t trust that date or the the promoter, Goldenvoice. Took the refund.

by Anonymousreply 48April 13, 2020 3:14 AM

R46 How would fixed pensions be affected?

by Anonymousreply 49April 13, 2020 3:20 AM

[quote] The way the markets crashed has affected everyone but I suppose much more catastrophically for people of retirement age who planned to retire within the next two years.

R20 here. I'm still planning on retiring as soon as we're allowed to go back to work and the hourly people in my office can return.

My financial adviser worked out a plan which projected me living 30 years more, to about 92. I look at it two ways 1) If I live more than 20 years the market will have had plenty of time to recover, or 2) If I don't live another 20 years, I won't be needing the money anyway. Of course, a third scenario is that the entire economy craters and the securities in my portfolio become worthless, but it's well balanced and I'm not really worried about that.

If anything, this pandemic has reminded me that life is finite and to put off things you've always wanted to do (such as retirement, travel, quitting a job you hate to pursue a dream, etc) is foolish. What's the old saying: 'People plan, god laughs'?
