You’d rather we start behind and have to climb out of a hole, R3? If I’m in a game, I’d rather be up in the first quarter than down. We’re off to a great start considering the party is still fractured from a primary.

by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 9, 2020 4:54 PM |
I know that polls are not necessarily meaningful. But it strikes me that perhaps the polls are more accurate this year than in 2016 because, back then, at least some voters were afraid to tell others they were supporting tRump, particularly in light of some of his behavior that seemed (and still is) outrageous but became normalized over time. Nowadays, they won't shut up! So they need to be outvoted.

Polls aren’t important unless Joe Biden is losing and/or tied in them. Then the “Biden is doomed!” crowd can’t shut up about them and how it proves the DNC needs to abandon Joe for Bernie or Andrew Cuomo or the Michelin Man.

Some of you need to stop being so God-damned pessimistic. I think some of you *want* to see four more years of Trump's chaos and havoc. Do you want a nuclear war with Iran? Do you want more climate change denial and see your rights stripped away? Biden is the nominee, get on the bus or be under it.

Unlike Sanders, Joe Biden has released his updated health records, which would note dementia or mental decline. In addition, Biden goes to real doctors, unlike Trump who gets his yearly check-up from a dude who looks like he printed his MD off of 4chan and barely 'graduated' from Trump U. Try harder, bitter little bitches.

by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 10, 2020 3:40 AM |
If his mental decline is so very obvious, R36, a doctor would order a psychological assessment so Biden could be evaluated at length.
But, it's only 'obvious' to those desperate to see it or people spending every spare moment watching doctored youtube videos.

The polls in 2016 weren't wrong. Two things happened, which may actually be the same thing:

by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 10, 2020 4:43 AM |

[quote]Hillary was up against Trump this time 4 years ago. I have a hard time getting exciting about bouncing poll numbers. Fool me once.
Shit started going south in July of 2016, if I recall. The GOP convention and positive media press, plus the emergence of the far right in Europe (Marine Le Pen's popularity that summer, the Brexit win in the UK) made a lot of us nervous.
But remember that the election involved both Russians messing with voter registration websites, plus the FBI interfering with the "reopening" of the Weiner investigation and the Comey letter. I think the reason polls didn't reflect the election outcome is because the actual votes had very little to do with who won.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | April 10, 2020 12:17 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 51 | April 10, 2020 12:19 PM |
OP, you've omitted the vitally important secondary question:
'8 in 10 Republican voters are either “extremely” or “very” enthusiastic about voting in the fall election as compared to just more than half of Democratic voters (56%) who describe themselves as equally excited about casting a ballot in November.'
It's one thing to have a healthy lead in an opinion poll, it's another thing altogether to enthuse voters sufficiently to actually get them to turn out to vote. This was always Biden's problem, and so it remains, even now that he no longer has any competition.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 10, 2020 12:25 PM |
When election day comes I sure hope not a single voter listens to the polls and figures it doesn't matter if they vote because Biden has a huge lead in the polls. I am convinced people thought it didn't matter if they voted because Hillary had a huge lead and there was no way Trump would win.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 10, 2020 1:31 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 83 | April 11, 2020 8:21 AM |
R82 posted a great article.
[QUOTE] In truth, Biden does display a presidential level of empathy for the sick, the suffering, and the fearful. At the end of an otherwise forgettable town meeting that was livestreamed to families and children on Sunday night, Biden offered moving words about loss and tragedy: “A lot of people are hurting. A lot of people will be hurt when this is over. And we’ve got to make them whole. We can. We can. That’s what we do in the United States.”
[QUOTE]That moment may not be headline material. But for the handful of up-for-grabs-in-November voters who were watching, it was a reminder that Biden actually does feel their pain. Unlike Bill Clinton, Biden reacts to tragedy not with a bite-your-lower-lip act but rather with the hard-earned emotion of a man who has lost a great deal in life.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | April 11, 2020 10:03 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 85 | April 11, 2020 10:07 AM |
R83, I agree with much of what you said--and thankfully you're not a Russian troll pushing the dementia card--and I would say you were 95% correct except for one thing: the virus. We have no idea what the death numbers will be, if there will be a second or even third wave of illnesses and deaths, and how many people will be left jobless and/or homeless. The nation could be angry with the president and many could unite, ignoring party lines. People might also feel sympathy for Trump if they perceive he is being treated unfairly. Who knows. But it won't be as cut and dried as it might have been without the virus.
Biden's dignity and empathy are the things that will set him apart from Trump--and if there was ever a time the nation needed a mature, dignified leader with empathy to lead as we mourn and rebuild, it's now.

[quote] Trump has the upper hand
In what way?
by Anonymous | reply 87 | April 11, 2020 12:44 PM |
Here is how I see it. If anyone thinks this thing is going to be a cakewalk is fooling themselves. The power of incumbency is huge, plus Trump will shamelessly exploit the presidency to benefit his campaign.
I'm not sure who R83 supported in the primary, but all of the candidates were going to have a rough time against Trump. What sets Biden apart is, while he has a long career and baggage, no one seems to hate him the way they irrationally hated Hillary. I think that shows up in the primary voting when it appears that a lot of former Bernie voters or voters who sat out last time came back to vote for Biden.
Since I don't have a crystal ball and with the way this pandemic has altered everything, you can't really say what kind of campaign Biden is or isn't going to run. You just have to hope that lessons were learned from 2016.
All we can do is vote and encourage others to do the same. I can't believe after witnessing the last 4 years of this completely inept buffoon in office, democrats are still having to unify the party post primary. First of all, your Twitter timeline is not the democratic party. Second, you all or nothing fuckers need to go somewhere and sit down. You may not get all the way there with Biden, but you'd get closer than you would with another 4 years of Trump. And finally, presidents aren't kings, go read a damn civics book.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | April 11, 2020 1:35 PM |
R87 1. He's the incumbent
2. Prior to Covid-19, the economy was doing well.
3. The Democratic Party is currently disorganized and poorly funded. The app fiascos in Iowa and Nevada were attempts to save money on conducting the primary, for example. Also, there is an ideological rift between socialists and neo-liberals which might result in low turnout for Biden from his own base.
4. Trump is very skilled at using the media as a foil, which they still have not adapted to. They play into his hands on a regular basis and give him a caricature of. clueless, classist "ruling elites" to define himself against. He baits them into this.
5. The GOP has been targeting moderates for outreach since 2017, while Democrats have been pushing moderates away. People in the middle, like independents and moderate Democrats, have become more politically conservative over the past few years because of this.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | April 11, 2020 10:09 PM |
Oh they have not R89. Independents and especially moderate suburban women have become demonstrably more Democratic over the past three years...at least regarding this horrible, piece of shit president.
PA, MI and WI...that’s it. Scranton Joe is NOT going to lose PA. And MI and WI both elected Dem governors and even Secretaries of State in 2018. The only way the fat fuck wins is by cheating, which is a given. Don’t fucking let him!
by Anonymous | reply 90 | April 12, 2020 4:02 PM |
R89, the GOP has been extremely ineffective in attracting moderates. As long as Dump is the figurehead of the GOP, it’s a lost cause. And moderates are certainly NOT becoming more conservative. If anything, they’re moving to the left.

[quote]. He's the incumbent
Yes, he is, which means that the election will be a referendum on Trump. And right now, he is at historic levels of unpopularity, and even more historic levels of people who actively despise him.
[quote]2. Prior to Covid-19, the economy was doing well.
Not really. The stock market was but that's not the economy. Wages still remain flat, health care costs continued to rise at a rapid rate, and far too many people were being left behind by this economy.
[quote]3. The Democratic Party is currently disorganized and poorly funded.
That may be true of the DNC; it is not true of the individual candidates who, as we saw in 2017, 2018, and 2019, had no trouble fundraising and keeping up with their Republican counterparts. In 2018, in particular, many Democratic candidates were blowing away their Republican rivals.
[quote]Also, there is an ideological rift between socialists and neo-liberals which might result in low turnout for Biden from his own base.
That is counter-balanced by the hatred for Trump by all parts of the party. There aren't enough die-hard Bernie Bros to matter.
[quote]4. Trump is very skilled at using the media as a foil, which they still have not adapted to. They play into his hands on a regular basis and give him a caricature of. clueless, classist "ruling elites" to define himself against. He baits them into this.
This is counter-balanced by his his incompetence, his inability to grow his base, and his inability to let things ride. He always shits on his own good news. He's a lousy campaigner and it's getting worse, as he's driven everyone competent away from his campaign. In 2016, they managed to keep him reined in on Twitter for the crucial few months before the election. Nobody can do that in 2020.
[quote]5. The GOP has been targeting moderates for outreach since 2017, while Democrats have been pushing moderates away.
Completely false. The GOP has doubled down on its base, largely because that's what Trump wants and is doing. And we're seeing those results in the off-cycle elections as well as the elections in 2018. There is no "outreach." They've lost the suburbs and they've lost white women.
[quote]People in the middle, like independents and moderate Democrats, have become more politically conservative over the past few years because of this.
You do not have the data to support this assertion.

[quote]When do you think Texas will turn purple and when blue?
“Purple” is meaningless when you’re talking about the EC. Arizona is arguably purple in that they’ve started electing Democratic Senators. They’ve already got one and may elect another.
Texas is probably 10-15 years away from doing that. And 15-20 years away from voting for a Democratic presidential candidate.
When people talk about Texas turning blue, they mean in the next 20 years, not in the next election. That presumes that the Republican Party continues on its current course as the party of white resentment.
Hispanic voters in Texas are not all liberals. If the GOP (nationwide) ever got its act together and stopped with the overt racism and xenophobia, and reached out (in good faith) to voters of color, then the Democratic Party would be in an awkward and difficult position.

[quote]Hispanic voters in Texas are not all liberals.
To expand on this, I know a few who voted for Trump in 2016 and will vote for him again this year. One is even an immigrant (though a legal one). He says that he spent a lot of time and money to immigrate and become a citizen and he resents anyone who doesn’t do it that way.
It’s a mistake to presume that all Hispanic Americans identify with undocumented immigrants. A lot do, but many do not. It’s also a mistake to presume that Hispanics in one part of the country think the way others in other parts of the country think.
Hispanics in the West and East may be generally liberal and supportive of progressives like Sanders, but ones in places like Florida, many of whom are immigrants from Argentina and Cuba, do not like socialism or anything that remotely resembles it.
They’re not a monolithic group and Dems shouldn’t take it for granted that they’ll always vote blue in the future.

r100 the story doesn't say what you think it does. Literallyy.
[quote]By taking a look at these numbers, and the map above, you’ll see one of the most stark examples yet of that Acela/Appalachia divide I’m always talking about. As the Southwest gets redder, the Southeast gets bluer.
[quote]Beyond that, the three counties that switched from Obama in 2012 to Trump in 2016 tell us a lot about how the race currently stands. Luzerne County looks like a lost cause for Dems at this point, while Northampton is showing some resiliency. In the middle are the mixed messages of Erie County.
[quote]There aren’t really any realistic Republican targets out there for Dems right now (with the possible exception of Cumberland).
[quote]As a result, their goal is to run up the margins as much as possible in Philadelphia and its collar counties, while winning back as many Obama/Trump voters as possible in the rest of the commonwealth. We’ll be here to watch the numbers and monitor their progress on the road to November.
That last paragraph is just A GOAL. it remains to be seen if it will be met.

Biden just has to have one dementia moment, or perhaps noticeably crap in his pants, during the debate and it’s over. Remember Gerald Ford claiming Eastern Europe wasn’t dominated by the Soviet Union or Dukakis dispassionately responding how he would punish a person who raped and murdered his wife.

I think the right to choose is the key, if the Democrats can get the right message out to women. Lets face it, everyone against abortion is going to vote Republican, but if you can get women to realize that their right to choose will be gone with the next Trump Supreme Court appointment that could get them to vote Democratic in overwhelming numbers.

None of which are showing any signs of success. Straka began his "campaign" in May, 2018. Democrats clobbered Republicans in the 2018 elections. Straka is an online publicity-hungry troll, desperate to milk whatever dollars he can get from gullible fools. He has accomplished precisely nothing.

No, actually, he's not. There are no signs that the current Republican Party is picking up the Hispanic vote. As it currently stands, the Republican Party is the party of Trump, through and through. I’m going to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into defeating Trump in the general election whether I win or don’t win the nomination. I’m going to use my campaign staff to help defeat Trump all the way til November whether I win or not.”:
Then he loses, fires his whole campaign staff, hands an $18M check to the DNC & walks away. Those hundreds of millions of dollars? Not only are they not materializing, but Bloomberg donated $20M to senate in 2018.. He’s giving less money to beat Trump in the general than he spent on trying to buy the senate 2 years ago.

If all else otherwise stays the same, Biden needs only to win Florida and Pennsylvania to win the election.
Hillary lost Florida by only 112,911 votes, while spoiler 3rd party candidate Gary Johnson received 207,043 votes, almost double, so it’s within Biden’s reach. Florida voted for Donald Trump by a margin of 1.2%. It was the fifth-closest state result, with only Wisconsin, Michigan, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania closer. Of these, only New Hampshire voted for Hillary. All of them could therefore easily go for Biden this time, securing him the nomination.

Republican officials in Florida have spent the last few years suppressing voters and purging minorities from the voter rolls. Combine that with Putin-knows-what and I consider Florida RIGGED.
Biden will take Ohio and Pennsylvania, however, which is all Biden needs. No Republican has ever won the Presidency without Ohio and they're sick of Trump's shit. Biden is winning there by a margin bigger than public survey margins of error, with helps to Putin-proof the election hacking that Moscow Mitch has invited.

The rape accusation has been around for weeks now, it's not going to catch on.
The accuser is a Bernie supporter (or staffer?) who didn't mention this when it happened in 1993, or when he was running for VP in 2008, or even when he announced his candidacy last year, she only brought it up when Sanders was struggling to stay in the primary. When she brought it up on 27 March it didn't make much of a splash despite a lot of big news orgs mentioning it, so then she filed charges, but it's far beyond the statute of limitations. She claims she "had" to file charges "for safety reasons." Her Twitter is incoherent, riddled with typos and weird errors.
No one is buying it. It's a silly revenge tactic. Even the people who firmly believe in "believe all women" aren't going to support a lady who is so transparently trying to use the MeToo movement for her own selfish reasons.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bernie is paying that woman. He is a malicious back stabber. And where has she been all through the Obama administration, two campaigns of it? In a hole?

Seriously? That's what you're going with? Biden is the strongest Democratic candidate in the Midwest and is clobbering Trump in all of the Wisconsin polls, the most recent of which has him up 28 points over Trump. Seriously, if you're going to troll here, can't you at least *try* to do so more intelligently?

R198 what? Which poll had him up 28 points to Trump in WI? I think you’re confusing it with a Biden/Bernie poll. Biden does not lead Trump on WI by 28 points. WI is a toss up that leans Trump. Either way it’s going to be close.

R200, I clicked the wrong link on the RealClearPolitics website. You're absolutely right that the data I posted was about Biden v. Sanders, not Biden v. Trump. I was an idiot for not catching that.
The most recent poll has Biden over Trump by 3 points in Wisconsin, although that's from late March, and the average is that he's beating Trump by 2.7 points. I apologize for the misinformation.
For the record, though, it's a tossup that leans Biden, not Trump.

Every state is different, so you need to listen to people in those states before making blanket statements. This was a mistake in 2016. People who were actually from Pennsylvania were shouting from the rooftops that PA was in play, but no one was really listening. Every state has it's own unique voting quirks.
by Anonymous | reply 214 | April 13, 2020 4:45 PM |

Democrats must focus intensely on states where there are Democratic governors. The GOP cheats by blocking Dems from voting in states where they control the governorship.
Every state is a numbers game. Dems can win if they can activate their base and over perform. Those claiming that the swing states are more pro Trump than ever aren’t focused on our base which is what turned out in the last three years.

As has been mentioned before, in our two party system, by definition, there is no other major party that is in opposition to the Democratic Party. It’s an absurd fantasy to think we will have a nationwide one party system. Whether it’s the Republican Party or some party yet unformed, its views will be different from the Democrats and its purpose, among other things, will be to thwart the Democrats’ plans. People need to grow up and understand that.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court win bodes well for Biden & the Democrats.
Some excerpts from the NYT analysis:
[quote]The victory, by upward of 120,000 votes as of Monday night, came as a shock to Republicans and Democrats alike in Wisconsin, where contests for president, governor and the state’s high court in the last four years have all been decided by about 30,000 votes or less. It followed weeks of Democratic anger over Republicans’ insistence on holding elections amid the coronavirus pandemic.
[quote]Wisconsin’s map on Monday night looked like a dream general election result for former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., the presumptive Democratic nominee — stronger than typical for Democrats in the suburbs and a respectable showing among the state’s blue-collar white voters in rural counties.
. . .
[quote]The decisive Democratic win offered a signal that the party, highly energized and mobilized heading into 2020, could organize and execute a winning get-out-the-vote program against strident Republican efforts to limit voter turnout in a narrowly divided state widely expected to be crucial in this fall’s presidential election.
[quote]Ms. Karofsky’s victory suggests Democrats have built a superior turnout operation in a state where elections are decided on the margins.
. . .
[quote]In Wisconsin’s 10 largest counties, Ms. Karofsky improved on the 2019 liberal Supreme Court candidate’s performance by at least five percentage points in nine of them. She flipped two such counties, Winnebago in the state’s Fox Valley, and Brown, which includes Green Bay.

The public is not talking about these things. They really aren't. I know you BernieBros have for some reason forgotten there is a pandemic and this week is its peak, but that's what everyone is talking about, not some sore loser BernieBro with accusations from 1993.
Right now on the front page of NYT, CNN, NBC, ABC, and Google News, there is nothing about this accusation. Almost nothing about Biden at all, except a story on NBC about him choosing a running made. It's all about the pandemic, Trump's meltdown, North Korea, the economy. The NYT has nothing on the front page about Biden and browsing their Twitter shows they never had it "everywhere."
[quote]It’s going to be a blowout for Trump.

They do try to make their own reality, don't they, R241? Of course the story isn't "everywhere," as the major news outlets are giving this a pass and none of "the public" are talking about Biden "fondling children." Our trolls really are inept, aren't they? As for a "blowout," neither side is going to get a "blowout." That's not the way national elections work in these highly partisan times.
The Democratic Supreme Court victory in Wisconsin definitely bodes well for Biden, though, as Republicans did everything they possibly could to suppress voter turnout and still lost. The margin of victory there was both surprising and reassuring. The person that Karofsky beat, Dan Kelly, was the incumbent, appointed by Scott Walker and endorsed by Donald Trump. And known for things like comparing slavery to affirmative action. Getting him off the bench was great for Wisconsin.

Did the Republicans decide the nepotism story about Hunter they were manufacturing hit too close to home, with Jared and Republican Barbie, and would bring up how Cheeto was impeached so they created a rape story to throw at Biden? They probably should have put more thought into it, since Trump has so many rape and cheating accusations, including the rape of one of his own wives, that running with actual facts on sexual assaults won't help them out.
It's a pathetic opponent who is incapable of winning on their own merit and alloqs or encourages their people to a start smear campaign to try to win. Only losers do that.

The Republicans and Russians will try to hurt Joe where he’s strongest - with women and with black voters. They know it will be tougher to hurt him with black voters so they have to make him unappealing to women. That’s why they’ve dropped Hunter. Women actually feel for Joe in the concerned dad and wayward son dynamic. So they will keeping hammer him as a violent rapist even though that couldn’t be further from the truth. The voters won’t go for it.

The...LOL..."press conference" that they gave from the front steps of the sugar daddy's townhouse attempted to claim that Warren had an affair with a young, strapping male escort (and Purple Heart recipient no less!! Hahaha!) with an extreme penchant for BDSM. The "personal trainer" story was against Kamala Harris (announced from the same front steps) and her supposed penchant for very young, very hung men. As with most of the rabid Rethug trolls - Wohl and his boyfriend were just projecting their own gay fantasies onto the two Senators. Jacob is a nut-job who hilariously claims to have been bestowed an honorary law degree from Harvard.

A Florida win for Joe would be huge! He can easily do it, too. All he has to do is not die, and not screw-up in a big way. But if he did lose it, and picked up North Carolina, that would be huge, too.
The day after the election, we have to start lobbying for prosecution of Trump . “Lock him up!”, I like the sound of that.

NC is a possibility, but I think AZ is more likely. Remember, Obama won NC in 2008, so it’s not far-fetched. NC is the definition of a purple state (though it’s been gerrymandered to within an inch of its life). It and AZ turning blue are an example of how the electoral map is shifting (along with the red-tilting of Midwestern states like Ohio and Iowa, which used to be swing states, but really aren’t anymore).

We're in uncharted territory, if unemployment hits 30 percent by late summer, all bets are off. An incumbent president has never won reelection during a depression/recession that started under his watch. Keep Joe on script, keep the speeches short, and talk about that all-star cabinet with *big* names.
2016 was a fluke. 50k people in WI, MI, and PA didn't bother to vote because HRC was a shoo-in. Repugs suffered staggering losses in 2018, 2019, and just last week in WI. Dump's approval rating has never exceeded 46 percent.

R283, well, that's kind of my point; sure, she did win the popular vote (yay!)
But what good is a poll saying someone's ahead and even if that person wins we still get a big fat orange turd in the oval office.

I'll vote for him because I can't watch this country circling the drain under Trump. BUT I think Biden is a perfect example of a career politician who cares nothing for anyone other than his family and friends. He is the perfect example of "The Swamp" but he's what we're offered as an alternative.
I voted for him in the Wisconsin primary last week and I almost choked doing it.
by Anonymous | reply 289 | April 15, 2020 4:44 AM |
It’s great time for the electorate to be repulsed with the Republican Party. States will be redrawing congressional districts and a Democratic wave might influence state houses, too. The only reason republicans have as much power as they do right now is because of gerrymandering 10 years ago. There’s a lot of potential this election year.

So I guess that’s why he broke with Obama, his president, and came out in favor of gay marriage, cajoling Obama to do the same? Because that somehow benefitted his “career” or his “family and friends?”
Where do these people get this shit from? What, becsuse he’s not “old man yelling at cloud” he must believe in nothing?
by Anonymous | reply 291 | April 15, 2020 5:12 AM |
Joe is the very definition of a career politician who has made politics a career exactly because he does care about people. I can’t imagine how anyone could ever get the impression that Joe doesn’t care about people. I can’t think of a single reason to come up with that.
The most successful politicians are ambitious people who think highly of themselves and who enjoy the perks of the office, but we’re not electing a Pope, so I can’t see why any of this would matter. .

Not after the Comey letter. The state polls that updated quickly like New Hampshire showed her below Trump, and she only recovered to be tied with him on Election Day. In some states I recall she was still below Trump by Election Day, even if she'd lead for most of the campaign season. Unfortunately most states weren't polling quickly enough to reflect the Comey letter, only a few did, which I think was partly why the polling was so off by the day of the election.

I have to reiterate what someone said above... Joe Biden is one of the few politicians who really does care about people. He never enriched himself while in office. He was habitually the poorest member of the Senate during his tenure. He didn’t start making money until after he was VP, through books and speeches. In fact, he was going to sell his home to cover the costs of cancer treatments for his son until Obama stepped in.
You may not agree with his politics, but Biden is a good guy, and that likability is what will carry him across the finish line.

Biden ought to be leading him by 30 points. Biden needs to be over 60%.
Because more than half million people have this virus and tens of thousands are dead. He is responsible for that. Every bit of it. The unemployment, the collapsing economy, etc. He owns it.He thinks he can buy people with bullshit and these pitiful checks with his signature, and he is full of shit.
This is a result of the media. the media needs to do a better job. That CBS reporter who confronted him ought to be the rule, not the exception. And shame on the media for airing his fucking propaganda hour for free.
He gives all the dumbasses out here who only watch the evening news, the impression he' "in charge." As when he just "authorized" the states to reopen as they see fit. "Down to?" The last three YouGov polls had Biden +4, Biden +6, and Biden +5. That's just noise. In any case, you always look at the poll aggregates, not just a single poll. And the recent polls are:
YouGov: Biden +5
Monmouth: Biden +4
Fox: Tied
CNBC: Biden +5
CNN: Biden +11
Quinnipiac: Biden +8
All of these are recent. The aggregate polling is that Biden leads Trump by 5.5 percentage points. There is literally just one national poll all year that has Trump leading, and that is an Emerson poll in February that had Trump +4, a major outlier.

Sorry, R313, but like the rest of your trolling here, that one is just incredibly lame. We all know this time around that it's state polls that matter, which is why those are the polls (PA, MI. WI, AZ, etc) that we're now focusing when trying to predict Trump v Biden.

The polls were accurate in 2016.
Imbeciles always ignore that there is a 5% margin of error in polls, and those are the margins that Al Gore and Hillary Clinton both lost under.
But both Gore and Hillary WON the popular vote.
That polls now show Biden spanking Trump by margins GREATER than the margin of error in Pennsylvania and Ohio means that Biden is favored to win by modern "landslide" standards.

I agree with R307 & R309.
The days of Presidential nominees winning landslides are over -- for both parties. In a polarized electorate where each party is guaranteed to win at least 45-47% of the vote that just isn't possible.
A 7-point win (which is what Obama got in 2008) is about as large a popular vote win as a Presidential winner can probably get today. The days of winning 45 or 49 states are over. FDR won 46 in 1936, LBJ 44 in 1964, Nixon 49 in 1972, and Reagan 49 in 1984. Those winning margins are now out of reach.
The last President to hit the 40-state mark was George H. W. Bush in 1988. And since then no President has even reached the 35-state mark.
So neither Biden nor Trump should be expected to win a landslide anytime soon.

Not really. The 1972, 1980, 1984, and (to a lesser extent) 1988 elections were true landslides.
In 1972, Nixon won every state except Massachusetts; Reagan won all but 4 states in 1980 and all but 1 in 1984; and GHW Bush won 40 out of 50 states in 1988. That kind of lopsided victory won’t happen now.

Jesse could have run for and won offices in Illinois, but chose President. An old Pol I asked about it said Jesse could afford to "lose" if he ran for PResident, but if he took a gamble on a Senate race and lost his "brand" would suffer.
