There have been some amazing recent studies done. CBS' 60 Minutes recently did a profile on it. So any experiences to share? Even second hand? Thanks.
LSD, Psilocybin: Has Anyone here taken either in recent years?
by Anonymous | reply 63 | April 17, 2020 1:49 AM |
To clarify, they are two different psychedelic drugs. 60 Minutes' segment was on Psilocybin. I don't expect anyone has taken both toghether, and not what I'm asking.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | April 9, 2020 4:17 AM |
Not recently, but I used to pick liberty caps in cow pastures in the 70s. The high was good, but the mushrooms tasted like dirt. Tea was earthy as well. Putting them on pizza was tolerable.

LSD made my roommate crazy paranoid. Either that or he was developing schizophrenia.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 9, 2020 8:21 AM |
I was never really the same after my first/last trip. It was psychosis inducing.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 9, 2020 8:28 AM |
Anybody know anyone who's participated in Psilocybin therapies?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 9, 2020 8:47 PM |
I did LSD back in October and it was fantastic. It was half a hit and I took an edible as it started to wear off. We listened to music and painted for hours, such a good time.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 9, 2020 9:17 PM |
I would love to try both at least once, although I'd be worried about paranoia.
Best drug I've done was MDMA.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 9, 2020 9:23 PM |
It's easy to snap out of the paranoia before it happens. Just recognize that you're about to go into that kind of thought process and dismiss it. You have to trip with people that don't bring about anxiety, it'll put you in a bad place.

Just a few years ago, I dated a college professor. He had a history of using psychedelics. I had never done them. We talked about it a lot and decided to do it. It was great. We did it three times. A low beginner's dose. Each time, it was a great 8 hours of mind blowing sex. The sex keeps you grounded in your body and focused on the your body and your partner's body and everything going on. So I didn't hear sitars. I saw no Yellow Submarine. Nothing like that. Just euphoric, energized, hot, steamy passion.
I fully appreciate the problems, practically and ethically, with the supply chain in the illegal drug market. But the professor was experienced and knowledgeable and the agreement was that I was not going to ingest anything from a newly purchased supply, only acid that he had already test driven. It looked like an opportunity to do something I had never done and would otherwise probably never do. I am very glad I did it. Under the right circumstances, I would do it again.
Pot puts me to sleep. Alcohol makes me sick and then it comes right back up. I tried MDMA once with the professor and it was absolutely underwhelming. And the roll was not worth the depletion suffered the next day.
But LSD was pretty damned fabulous.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 9, 2020 9:35 PM |
I love it. Tried LSD for first time last year and it really got me in touch with my emotions in a clinical way. I had been holding on to some past pain and when I took it the first time I cried for hours yet felt like warm and light. I even forgave a former friend who really hurt me. I mean I didn’t Say anything to him but mentally I let go of anger towards him.
Since then I usually trip out once a month. Every single time my experience is positive and now that I already dealt with my negative emotions, my experiences are fun now. Also I get horny as fuck and it feel like my dick just keeps going and going. I feel raw sexuality and masculinity flowing through me. I also take Long walks and everything seems so beautiful. I usually end it with lots of dancing to euphoric music.
It does tend to keep me up longer than I want but the following day I always feel good and hopeful.
I have on tab left and saving it for when the quarantine is over.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 9, 2020 9:36 PM |
Interesting, rr11. Being on MDMA was by far the best I've ever felt. The euphoria was mind blowing. I didn't even want sex because I couldn't imagine anything feeling better than sitting in a chair listening to music.
I've done a lot of coke in my day, but MDMA was a cut above.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 9, 2020 9:38 PM |
I went on a 3 hour crying jag when I tried MDMA. I don't know if it released something I had pent up for many years or what but I don't think I'll ever do it again. I slept over 12 hours the next day.

Who are these people that do not bring about anxiety, r8?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 9, 2020 9:47 PM |
Friends I've had for twenty years, r15. Very upbeat, positive and really don't dwell on the pitfalls.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 9, 2020 9:53 PM |
LSD changed my life for the better and cured me of lifelong depression. Like [R12] said, it allowed me to access an emotional side of myself, yet in a way that was more objective than subjective, which I desperately needed. That shift in perception led to letting go of a great deal of long-held emotional baggage and past traumas and honestly, saved my life, at least figuratively.
I’ve also done psilocybin and had good experiences but not to the same extent as with LSD. It’s always made me sob when I’ve done it, but that may be at least partially attributable to the state of mind I was in at the time.
MDMA has also been great for me personally, but does have a different feel since it’s not strictly a psychedelic.
I won’t say that psychedelics are a cure-all, but if approached with the right mindset and done in a safe environment, they have the potential to be transformative. It should also go without saying that any time you’re using one of the above, or any “drug”, that testing to ensure the validity and purity of what you’re about to ingest is of paramount importance.

R12 and others.. "I have one tab left and saving it for when the quarantine is over."
OP here. Full disclosure. I've been having issues with depression and anxiety for years. A friend gave me a couple tabs that I've been holding on to for just the right occasion. That occasion was to be a trip I had planned to visit friends in Palm Springs this weekend. Obviously, not only is it not happening this weekend, but it might be a long time before another special occasion can be arranged. I am comfortable at home with a roommate I trust who's willing to keep an eye on me. I'm thinking of just taking it this weekend by myself. He won't join me because he's sober and is afraid it could hurt his sobriety, but like I wrote, is willing to babysit me. My thinking is: if I can't take a trip outside my house, perhaps I can take a much-needed trip within.
Any good reason why I shouldn't? (I'm also afraid the longer I wait, the less potent it will be).
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 10, 2020 3:36 AM |
[quote] Any good reason why I shouldn't?
There certainly could be. Have you discussed it with your physician? You haven't mentioned anything about your age and physical condition. Perhaps your question is one that can't be answered here.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 10, 2020 3:46 AM |
I'm 56. Decent physical condition. Not currently on any psyche meds, (which could interfere). The Psilocybin studies profiled on 60 Minutes were mostly done on people over 60 who had been having long-term issues with anxiety and depression. Also cancer patients dealing with end-of-life issues. So I'm young in comparison.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | April 10, 2020 3:59 AM |
LSD was pure hell. Only for people who like rollercoasters and are very social. I have social anxiety - and even doing it with friends was anxiety inducing. Lose control of your mind. Psychedelics should not be messed with. They can do severe damage. Not “fun” drugs. MDMA maybe - as it’s more a dopamine night.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 10, 2020 4:23 AM |
I did acid by myself at home at a time when I was feeling down and as several said above, it got me in touch with emotions and feeling I had blocked prior to my trip. That said mushrooms were much more fun, they just made me laugh and see light visual hallucinations - nothing too extreme nothing life changing, but very enjoyable. I'd do mushrooms again, acid probably not for a long time

by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 10, 2020 4:51 AM |
R22 ", it got me in touch with emotions and feeling I had blocked prior to my trip."
OP here. That's my intent. For years I've thought it could help me where most other things have failed. I'm not looking to get high. There was a time that I had a sense of self, inner peace maybe. I haven't felt that way in a long time.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 10, 2020 5:41 AM |
I have severe anxiety and depression that is pretty much immune to medication so nothing really works well for me or for long, have there been any studies that tried psychedelics on people like myself?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 10, 2020 6:42 AM |
R25 Yes! It's why I want to do it myself. Google the 60 minutes segment. And there have been a bunch of studies done with LSD within the last 10 years.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 10, 2020 7:10 AM |
The trick with mushrooms is that you have to chew the mushroom for a long time so that the mucus membrane can absorb the psilocybin. The majority of people almost immediately swallow them, which makes them less effective.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 10, 2020 9:48 AM |
R25 Read this book. It’s (among other things) about the use of psychedelics to treat depression, anxiety and addiction.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 10, 2020 9:55 AM |
R28, OP here. I read it and I have to say I was disappointed. I found it dry and not as informative as I was hoping, (although I'm not sure what I was expecting). I had seen the author's appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, and read a couple interviews with him. It's what inspired me to get the book. It's just that there wasn't anything new for me in the book that I hadn't already heard him discuss. It did, however, further validate my reasons for wanting to try Psilocybin (or LSD).... and the reason I'm gonna do the LSD is only because I was able to get it. Had I known of a source for Psilocybin, (in it's purest form, the way Pollen took it), I would have gotten some.

LSD is astonishingly powerful. The tiniest little bit of it constitutes a hit. If it is suspended in a liquid, figure that one drop is distinctly different than two drops.
The problem is that none of this is made distributed legally, so things like dosage hardly exist. But LSD is enormously powerful and that will not change.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 11, 2020 3:51 PM |
Have any of you done a candyflip?
That's MDMA (ecstasy) with LSD. So you don't have a bad trip because you're loving everything.

Yeah you hear good things but then you also hear bad things like how it activated someone's genetic predisposition for schizophrenia.
That's why you start microdosing.

r34 a former supervisor used to love to candy flip during the salad days of the 90s. i’m not sure how many times he partook, but i can tell you he became a paranoid schizophrenic and wound up in a psychiatric unit. dunno if candy-flipping was worth it.

So that's what a candy flip is? We called it Thursday lunch.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 13, 2020 10:16 AM |
ive gotten into shrooms recently. Like many others, I actually stopped my anti-depressant and take a small measured dose of shrooms twice per week. I did this in coordination with my psychiatrist. Seems to be working out nicely.
I also have a therapist, I sometimes take the microdose (or threshold dose, meaning i can feel some light effects) on therapy days. Good times. She is aware I'm on em.
They really are wonder drugs. Magic even. I think the early American pioneers of these drugs really fucked up by doing so much. People in Timothy Leary's experiments were taking up to hundreds of times the doses that a person would take today. Small amounts can still flip switches in the brain.
Almost impossible to do too much to do physical harm though. Scientists follow people who accidentally massively overdose on hallucinogens (Since they can never do a controlled experiment as it would be unethical, since the amounts are what we'd assume would kill someone or mess up their brains). Instead, they tend to find no effects. it's like the brain just shuts down after too much, people become comatose for a few hours, wake up and are ready to head home within a day. we see that with DMT - The right amount sends you into a different universe where you can interact with intelligent hyperdimensional aliens--and if you do more, you just black out.

Look up MAPS, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies. They’re conducting a lot of research into therapeutic benefits of psychedelics, including:
—Psilocybin for anxiety, particularly end-of-life anxiety, and smoking cessation.
—Iboga for breaking opiate addictions.
—Ketamine and MDMA for post-traumatic stress and depression.
—Marijuana, which they classify as a weak psychedelic.
To more limited degrees, ayahuasca and LSD.
Ayahuasca changed my life competely.

r21 is a great example of how little planning, intention, and understanding most have about hallucinogens before taking. Most use them as party drugs. American drug culture is basically the following--make it illegal, get it from god knows who, no controlled dosages, rarely test to know what drug you're actually taking, then take a LOT of it. Usually in a party type scenario where there are lots of people, lots of loud music, etc. And just to repeat, no controlling of the dosage other than to get very fucked up (and of course, based on illegal distribution, accurate dosage is often impossible anyway). Then once you have a difficult/bad experience, pass that along to scare others.

Studying psychedelics created neuropharmacology. Scientists discovered neurotransmitters as they were trying to understand exactly what was happening in the brain when people 'hallucinate' or have psyche-exploring experiences.
Those studies led to the development of antidepressants and anti-anxiolytics and then the banning of psychedelics and MDMA, which had been used up until 1985 in clinical settings as a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and similar anxiety.
So now there's a real bind. Researchers have come to understand for 10-15 years that psychedelics can have profound and lasting benefits for mental health. But there's a stigma attached to all of them, and undoing that is difficult, and more difficult is getting the DEA to relax its entirely unfounded schedule 1 classification of psychedelics. Schedule 1 drugs are supposed to meet three specific criteria: 1) no medicinal benefit; 2) high addictive potential and 3) high risk of death by overdose. Psychedelics defy every single one of these categories.
And of course, now the behemoth problem is big pharma. A huge part of their moneymaking portfolio is selling antidepressants and anti-anxiolytics to people for their entire lifetimes. It's a guaranteed, constant revenue stream. These companies are richer than God, and they have tremendous power over lawmakers. And it's more likely that those companies will patent and sell harmful synthetic versions of psychedelics and the wrongful schedule 1 classification will remain in place, even though naturally occurring psychedelics such as ayahuasca, iboga, psilocybin, etc., could save lives and have the potential to make people get along better.

Sturgill has COVID but seems to be okay.
FWIW, I got shrooms for my dad. He has Parkinson’s. I ground them into powder and filled capsules, he is supposed to take them every other day. I took small doses to make sure he wouldn’t get fucked up.
It was great, and I take a couple occasionally. Haven’t had the desire to “trip”, especially since this pandemic bullshit.
My dad says he can’t tell any difference, but the rest of us can definitely tell if he doesn’t take them for a few days.
Obtaining more at the moment is “iffy”.
