Itching eye driving me crazy

I have extremely itchy, allergy eyes. OTC drops not helping. Taking allergy meds. The itching is specifically in the corner near my tear duct. Anything you guys can recommend besides clawing my eyes out? It's been doing this for years but this year allergies are really bad and of course we aren't supposed to be touching our eyes or face.

Get some B&L Opcon A.

Hope it's not pink eye though... otherwise... can I have your stuff, OP?

by Anonymousreply 1April 8, 2020 9:02 PM

Doctor recommended Zaditor for my itchy eyes. CVS has a store brand. I use it twice day (recommended dose) and it does the trick. Also, when my eyes are REALLY bad I soak a face cloth in ice-water, ring it out and push it into the corners of my eye.

by Anonymousreply 2April 8, 2020 9:03 PM

Op i am going through the exact same thing. Horrible.

by Anonymousreply 3April 8, 2020 9:03 PM

Is it just one eye?

My right eye was twitching and slightly watery a few weeks ago. I read that Pink Eye can be a symptom of Coronavirus and it almost felt like it.

Then it went away so who knows.

by Anonymousreply 4April 8, 2020 9:12 PM

It's not pink eye R1. I've had that before. It sucked but this is not that bad and, like I said, it's every year.

by Anonymousreply 5April 8, 2020 9:14 PM

I occasionally get severe pain in my left eye. Systane Gel Drops Lubricant Eye Gel seems to help. Put a little on your lower eyelid before you go to bed.

by Anonymousreply 6April 8, 2020 9:16 PM

It sounds like pink eye, especially since it’s one eye, is it sticky? Wash your hands, don’t want it to spread!

I have allergies and I also have a blocked tear duct. I was supposed to have elective surgery for it, but you know how that went.

OP, if it’s only one eye, it could be a partially blocked tear duct. If it is, there’s a couple of things you can do that can’t hurt. First, go take a shower and let the (warm) water run down over your eyes. Wash your face and eye area very carefully with soap. Wash around the tear duct area and nose and cheek and eyelid and under your eye. Let the water run over your closed eye for a while. I sit on the floor of the shower for this because it’s easier.

When you get out, get some Neosporin and rub it on that whole itchy area and around the tear duct area. Not in the eye, around the eye. Leave it on. Change your pillowcases everyday. Change your sheets often.

Do this every day without fail. Do the Neosporin part and wash your face several times a day. Do the Neosporin again before bed. Don’t wipe it off. Don’t be too skimpy either. And don’t touch your eye area with your bare hands unless you e just washed them very thoroughly.

If you have to wipe your eye, use a clean cloth or tissue. Keep washing everything and keep your eye and everything it touches scrupulously clean. I removed the upholstered pillow covers on the sofa and used washable Euro shams instead so I could keep washing them.

At worst, you’ll have a well moisturized eye area. I did this and went from having a swollen, itchy eye that was constantly full of matter to a much cleaner eye. If it’s just pollen, all the washing will get it off.

Thereare probably a lot of spores on your skin and eyes. That happens to me every spring too.

Shower with hot water and lather and rinse your face twice with moisturizing soap. Then rinse with cold water to close you pores. This will help get rid of the spores and the itching should subside somewhat. At least it works for me. Also change you pillow case every night, they are probably a lot of allergens there.

DON’T put neosporin in your eye!!! It’s not meant for your eyes and is known to cause cancer in eyes.

by Anonymousreply 10April 8, 2020 9:34 PM

Also wash your towels much more frequently and your bedding. And don’t leave the windows open, there’s pollen everywhere.

I recently bought an air purifier, which may be helping. I had a horrendous allergy attack a couple of days ago, it seems pretty bad this year. I had to set up the air purifier with my nose continually running, which was fun.

by Anonymousreply 11April 8, 2020 9:36 PM

R10, I didn’t say put Neopsporin IN the eye, I said around the eye area. Where did you hear it causes cancer?

My doctor told me to use it. He gave me a prescription version of Neosporin, but it was a tiny tube and seemed to irritate my skin, so he said Neosporin was ok.

So are my eyes going to fall out now? I don’t put any inside my eye.

by Anonymousreply 12April 8, 2020 9:39 PM

Hopefully your eyes won’t fall out, petroleum products cause eye cancer, which Neosporin falls under. That’s why women stopped using petroleum jelly on their lashes long ago.

This is obviously pink eye. OP, do you own pets? Maybe some contaminated hair is getting into your eye on a regular basis.

by Anonymousreply 13April 8, 2020 9:44 PM

I wash my eyes with Burts Bees Shampoo, keep a moderately warm eye mask on for 10 mins, and use Zaditor or Systane. Blocked ducts are much improved.

Air purifiers in every room, humidifier by the bed, and vacuum like mad. Just read this will be a hellish allergy season, enjoy.

by Anonymousreply 14April 8, 2020 9:46 PM

Oh and anything you put around your eye will find its way into your eye.

by Anonymousreply 15April 8, 2020 9:47 PM

Could be allergies, R13. There’s tons of pollen out there.

I’d still suggest washing the eye area and bedding frequently. No matter what it is, it won’t hurt. I did read that someone had pink eye and was washing their eyelashes with baby shampoo. That’s because if you get it in your eyes, it won’t burn. I tried that for a while but it turns out it was irritating my face. I have really sensitive skin.

If the corner of his eye is itching and burning, I’d say it’s pretty likely it’s allergies right now. Wash it very thoroughly and see if it feels better. And keep washing the towels and sheets until it’s all gone.

Patanol is now available without a prescription. BEST ALLERGY EYEDROPS

by Anonymousreply 17April 8, 2020 9:50 PM

Also, itchy eyes are systemic, so neti pot will also help with that.

by Anonymousreply 18April 8, 2020 9:50 PM

I had an itchy eye attack. Thought it might be conjunctivitis. Turned out it was a corona virus side effect: I was rubbing Lysol I didn't know I'd touched into my eye.

by Anonymousreply 19April 8, 2020 9:52 PM

Eye pain and redness is coronavirus symptom

by Anonymousreply 20April 8, 2020 9:52 PM

R20 I have this every year. I don't have coronavirus but my allergies are BAD this year.

by Anonymousreply 21April 8, 2020 9:54 PM

Pink Eye --- Vigamox eye drops (moxifloxacin)

Allergy --- Pataday (Olopatadine) - now OTC. And taking cimetidine or famotidine can help with allergy too if cetirizine fails.

Dry Eye --- Hialid (sodium hyaluronate) 0.18% or 0.3%

by Anonymousreply 22April 8, 2020 9:57 PM

It’s red eyelids as well, R21.

Eye itchiness and pain is also a symptom of allergies. I had a horrible allergy attack last week. Just two days of continually itching eyes and running nose. It finally wore off.

Someone delivered a package and left it in the middle of the patio instead of against the door, which is covered. When I picked it up, the whole bottom of the box was yellow with pollen.

by Anonymousreply 23April 8, 2020 9:57 PM

Restasis. Expensive, though - high co-pay - but they say to take it twice a day (eye drops) and after a month I found I only need to use one vial, not two and it works all day. It stings a bit for five minutes, so I take it at night. And I've been looking at a screen more these last few weeks than I have in years with no issues.

Also: fish oil (2000 mg) and flaxseed oil (400 mg) daily, either as supplements bought in bulk at Wegman's or CVS for about $20 twice a year or some fancy eye vitamins with exactly the same thing in them for about $20 a month.

by Anonymousreply 24April 8, 2020 11:17 PM

I'd ask about your stuff OP, but I don't want any of that shit.

by Anonymousreply 25April 8, 2020 11:20 PM

It could be a stye, which can be caused by stress.
