I understand why he’s popular and I know people who send around his videos, but to me they feel long. I don’t admit this to my siblings And friends because they may take it to mean that I’m not sympathetic to the ideas and don’t appreciate the incisive way he calls out Trump. Some of expressions and gestures make me wince a bit. It’s like a minstrel show, but I know that’s a false correlation because this performer isn’t pretending to be something other than himself. It would be funny if he was a butch straight guy off camera, though. If, part way through a clip, I said something like “ok I’ve seen enough” I would expect one of my straight friends who enjoy his videos to come at me with “oh! Too close to home?!”. But it’s more complex than that.

DL is comprised of many, many former Drama Club members all of whom feel they could outperform various actors. all of whom are not the least bit attractive either.

I saw him perform in Palm Springs last November. It was a fantastic show, and his voice was even better live.

I know I am in the minority, but I agree with OP. I completely agree with Randy's politics and think he is a clever writer and makes interesting videos, but they wear thin quickly. I can almost never get through an entire one. Once I know the joke, I tend to stop. I am happy he is successful doing what he does, but the videos get tiresome.

I wouldn't say he is revered, but admired and enjoyed certainly. Have enjoyed his videos, he IS a very clever writer, producer and he sings well. Don't care for all his work, the ones I do like I re-watch frequently. Sounds shallow but it seems I don't care for the video if I can't place the tune, even though most are obvious(I wish he'd cite his song sources) Mentioned him to a friend, and she likes his work as well, but we don't often agree on which videos are his best. My faves: "Desperate Cheetoh," "The Russian Connection," "Sweet Indictment" and "Microwaves Are Watching You."

The narrative intros CAN be a bit tedious, sometimes I'll FF through them to get to the "good stuff."

You have to admit he DOES have balls, skewering the high and mighty. BITD he'd have fit right in on "That Was The Week That Was."

Life-long Democrat here and I completely agree with Randy Rainbow's politics. He makes clever and interesting videos. I just think I could make his voice squeak a little higher if I dunked him in sulfuric acid.

His new video is another reason I don't love him as much as most people. The song is clearly a Grease parody -- he wears a "pink lady" shirt -- but I am not familiar with songs from Grease that aren't called "You're the One that I Want," and it always helps to enjoy a parody if you know the original source. I never know more than half the songs he uses in his video; perhaps even less than that.
