Greg. As in "Greg seethed quietly, lips pursed, as he waited for his cappuccino at Starbucks. How long should a simple coffee drink take? Muriel, can I speak with you a minute. You are the manager here, right?

That homosexual man at R44 was being very rude to my husband Chad.

I'm sure he has no idea who Chad is and how quickly his firm can write up a law suit.

And you know, there's a little something for you in it if you make him go away.

Thanks so much!!

by Anonymousreply 48April 7, 2020 11:31 PM

Doesn't it have to be a Boomer name? A name that was popular in the 50s and early 60s.

Karen is one of those names.

So the male equivalent would be Bob, Jim, Bill, Doug, Gary, Tom, Ron, Dave, Steve, Mike, Dennis, Craig, Kevin

Chad is not a common Boomer name.

OP's silly question is not a hypothetical question.

The "Karen" asking for the manager, entitled Karens, and the Karen hair cut are all standard Reddit terminology as "frau" is on DL.

As such, Reddit has already dubbed "Kevin" as the male "Karen" although "Chad" is used in certain contexts because it is the name used by the broader incel crowd for the type of guy who always gets the chicks, but in their opinions doesn't deserve them because they are douchebags.

by Anonymousreply 64April 8, 2020 12:57 AM

Being from the Northeast, Kevin seems overly Irish Catholic--I think every Irish family has at least one Kevin in it, and you rarely encounter Kevins of other ethnicities.

A “Karen” is a term used on Reddit and in Internet slang in general to refer to a specific type of woman. A “Karen” is typically a woman between the ages of 30–60 who likely has children and has the air of a suburban mother.

For the last three years or so, "Karen" has been the internet's stock female antagonist: a righteously annoyed middle-aged white woman who loves coupons, reverse mullet bobs, and, above all else, speaking to the manager. by Anonymousreply 136April 10, 2020 7:50 PM

This thread is hilarious. BTW, The only Chad I have ever known IRL has been a sweet, fat, especially-not-entitled American gay man from Missouri!

As regards Asians, or S/SE Asian male Karens, it's usually spelled Kieran,Kiran,Kirin. or less commonly Kierin... only rarely pronounced similarly to Karen; it is more like Kheer-in.

I'm with the poster upthread who maintained there is no male equivalent. Karens are mumsy mums, with an edge, which only unbalanced oestrogen can bring on.

by Anonymousreply 137April 10, 2020 11:12 PM

Karen is a War Baby/Boomer name , peaking in the mid-50s. She's someone who bought her clothes at Lerner's or Petries (with the occasional visit to Lynns, home of dollar dresses) until she got a job in Macy's basement and worked her way up to juniors. She has no sense of style but thinks she does. She grew-up in the cheapest block of a slightly better than average suburb. She's always had greater ambitions than for herself, often thwarted. She married well but could have divorced better. Now, she's in real estate working longer than she planned. She does ask for the manager and her peers gossip about her behind her back. Her daughters live as far away as possible.

Chad is not a boomer. He spent summers folding t-shirts at A&F, barely able to afford anything there without his employee discount. He's an underemployed guy who spends too much up on his gym membership and is ultimately dumped by boyfriends who are probably a little above his league to begin with. He will dance badly until well past the age where it is "cute" and undo his gym routine with appletinis and other silly drinks. Karen is old enough to be his mother and he's like her enough to hate her if she is.

by Anonymousreply 138April 11, 2020 12:12 AM

Biff is another good name.

As on post mentioned, Kevin is the ideal name for Karen’s equivalent. I’ve known a few Kevins who were assholes. Plus, there’s:

Kevin Spacey Kevin Federline -Brittany’s Ex Kevin Sorbo (Right wing asshole, homophobe)

The exception, of course is Kevin Bacon, whom I admire and like.

by Anonymousreply 154May 23, 2020 7:53 PM

The only whiny complaining white privilege asshole I know of is named Brad.

by Anonymousreply 155May 23, 2020 8:00 PM

Kevin is one of those common mid century names which lost popularity. There are many Boomers and GenX men with that name. It’s akin to the name Karen.

It’s arrogance, self-importance, entitlement, selfishness. They consider themselves, as “better than”, and believe their middle class status gives them an ethical and moral superiority over others who have less. They ass kiss the rich, are impressed by titles and status, they vote Republican, and they carry a latent racism within themselves, though they deny it. “Pulling the race card” is a frequent utterance, but they cast themselves as victims of racism, because black people assert themselves. They call them out on their white privilege.

They’ll scream for the manager when they don’t get what they want. They’re entitled. It’s all about appearance and no substance.
