WHET Jason Russell The Kony 2012 Queen

Is he finally being honest with himself? Still one of the funniest meltdowns I've ever seen.

Oh Lordt, OP...I totally forgot about this one!

by Anonymousreply 1April 7, 2020 1:58 AM

Yeah, what happened to her? That was batshit.

by Anonymousreply 2April 7, 2020 2:15 AM

Don’t be so cruel & unkind. He had a meltdown, all the while doing good things. What the fuck do any of you do?

You’re trash OP

by Anonymousreply 3April 7, 2020 2:44 AM

R4, Jason, i didnt know you posted here!

by Anonymousreply 4April 7, 2020 2:48 AM

He's married to a woman and has multiple children with her, and yet in that video he made gayer arm and hand gestures while naked on the sidewalk than EJ Johnson on a red carpet before flashbulbs.

by Anonymousreply 5April 7, 2020 2:52 AM

R3. Hi Jason!

by Anonymousreply 6April 7, 2020 2:55 AM

Did Kony end up winning the election?

by Anonymousreply 7April 7, 2020 3:00 AM

There is no Kony. The dictator of Uganda made him up based on his own biography.

by Anonymousreply 8April 7, 2020 4:20 AM

I still want to fuck that crazy asshole.

by Anonymousreply 9April 7, 2020 4:37 AM

He's been spending a lot of time on his hair it seems.

He looks much better without the beard.

I remember a lot of fairly naive (but wholly sincere) people responding very emotionally and dramatically to parts of the whole story, and eagerly buying and wearing Invisible Children tee shirts and hats and urging teachers to buy and show the documentary in schools. It’s an interesting early example of viral perceptions and a poorly-guided (oversold?) nonprofit. The backlash was pretty harsh. It’s a sad, feel bad story about some good intention and a lot of ego and immaturity. A lot of impressionable teenagers yelled at parents and teachers “Don’t you even care?!!!”. It was like a tabloid conception of a humanitarian crisis.

Joseph Kony is most definitely real person. He was the leader of the guerrilla group The Lord's Resistance Army.

Kony was indicted in 2005 for war crimes and crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, but he has evaded capture.

What Russell didn't know was that Kony had left Uganda at least 5 years before Russell went to Uganda to film.

by Anonymousreply 13April 7, 2020 2:16 PM

"didn't know"

Also, I was a 20-something returning to college than, and a lot of my friends were swept up by this. I remember one in particular, posting incessantly. Reflected the worst parts of millennials.

by Anonymousreply 14April 7, 2020 3:26 PM

So was that drug induced psychosis ? I find him very cute , but Id have sworn he was gayer than an Ungaro spring frock !

by Anonymousreply 15April 7, 2020 7:05 PM

[quote] What Russell didn't know was that Kony had left Uganda at least 5 years before Russell went to Uganda to film.

You would think that would've come up in his research before spending money on the project and his travel arrangements.

by Anonymousreply 16April 7, 2020 7:44 PM

[quote]He looks much better without the beard.

Yeah, but unfortunately he's married to her.

by Anonymousreply 17April 7, 2020 7:51 PM

R15 it wasn’t due to drugs. We draw labs to check for drugs, etc and typically drug-induced psychosis subsided within 48 hours.

Russell was hospitalized for weeks which would not happen if drugs were the cause.

by Anonymousreply 18April 7, 2020 8:39 PM

He pretty much set the definition of clicktivism

by Anonymousreply 19April 7, 2020 8:41 PM

That snap he does just screams “gurrrrrrlllll”

by Anonymousreply 20April 7, 2020 8:42 PM

His inner gay man really came out!!!

R17 wins.

After the fact, Russell's family issued a statement saying that drugs and alcohol didn't play a role in his meltdown, which was instead a result of "extreme exhaustion, stress and dehydration" from the sudden fame Russell had been experiencing at the time.

Russell was taken to a mental health clinic, where it took two weeks for him to get back to normal, he said, recalling of the aftermath of his "out of body experience": "I was so confused. I thought people were trying to kill me." Doctors said he suffered a psychotic break.

When Winfrey asked the married filmmaker about rumors he's gay ("that you were running in the streets nude because you were gay"), he laughed, saying: "I grew up in theater, my parents started a large children's theater organization, so I am animated, I am ... theatrical. That's me by nature. So when you take me, times it by ten ... ."

And he expressed that life threatening fear by getting naked and stage a one man show in public? Oooooookay!

Not that I condone violence, but the usual response to your life being under threat (while high, in pain, dehydrated, or stone cold sober) is usually to run, fight, claw, or crawl your way to safety.

by Anonymousreply 25April 7, 2020 9:24 PM

Stupid cracked out faggot showing his ass because he can’t handle his drugs.

by Anonymousreply 26April 7, 2020 9:29 PM

The podcast Undiscovered recently did a great episode looking back at the Kony 2012 craze

by Anonymousreply 27April 7, 2020 9:44 PM

R25 Nope a lot of people crack under extreme stress. Google search WWII war neuroses. I used to do the PTSD reviews for WWII/Vietnam veterans who were getting service-connected benefits for PTSD (so they could still get the benefits). A lot of normal guys exposed to extreme situations developed serious psych issues.

by Anonymousreply 28April 7, 2020 10:17 PM

[quote]stage a one man show in public?

Hey, I was doing Equus and the horse ran away.

by Anonymousreply 29April 7, 2020 10:19 PM

You guys are funny. 😂

Why would Oprah think being gay is correlated with running in the streets naked...? 🧐

by Anonymousreply 30April 7, 2020 10:25 PM

I dunno, R30. You tell me.

The LRA was probably made up by the Ugandan government to justify corralling their ethnjic enemies in concentration camps. If you read the bio of the president, you find that he was the head of the "National Resistance Army" guerilla group in olden times.
