Does Trump even care about the Republicans that worship him?
Honest question. His disastrous response to COVID has Christians flocking to churches, viruses tearing through the lungs of the elderly, Republican governors threatening the lives of their own citizens, and now veterans are denouncing the decision to fire a beloved Navy captain. These are all the people who VOTED him into office, and his actions are actively destroying their faith in him or, worse, their very lives.
Was [italic]this[/italic] Trump's plan all along? I'm a pretty self-destructive person, but I don't think I've seen anything like this.

All we know is we just love him and we'll vote for him again even if we're dead by then.

He’s a textbook narcissist. He doesn’t care about anyone or anything other than himself.

He has no plan for anything, other than causing chaos and changing the subject/distractions. It doesn't matter to him one iota if he kills his entire base of voters, he is such a malignant narcissist he believes he can bullshit his way out of any situation and avoid consequences.

I have come to the conclusion that while Trump is cognizant of past glories and past slights and past resentments, he does't see himself as a figure in time. There is no concept of the historical narrative, as a writer recently put it. So he can't learn from the past or anticipate the future. All he can do is bully and yell and whine and stomp his feet in the present, which is always conducted one day at a time.
It's why he lies so easily. All the shit he said a week ago? That was a week ago! It's also why he can;t build on information and create context. The future? It's what he wants it to be the specific moment he's talking about it, nothing more, nothing less.
Other than "winning" by grabbing money and hurting those he dislikes (pretty much anyone who has the nerve to not be him ) there is no plan.

I like this articulation of it. That makes sense. I wonder how much of this comes from the fact that he's a reality TV personality. He's just that... a personality. Not a human with his own internal thought process, but a "person on TV". And so he's acting like one... he's treating the presidency and every interview, press conference, rally, as a character on a reality TV show. The only difference is that America, while it might look like one every goddamn day, isn't actually a reality TV show, and there are real consequences to his actions.
