Question for the Eldergays - tell me about Stockard Channing in The Girl Mist Likely To
This was a TV movie from 1973 and was the first time I took notice of Stockard. She played an ugly duckling who had plastic surgery and then took revenge on all of her tormentors.
I still remember the cheerleader who went back hand springing out the dorm window.

It was written by Joan Rivers.

I remember liking it as a young gayling and then I watched it years later and it was a waste of time. The concept of someone starting over with a new face had seemed intriguing to me originally but the movie is just not that good.

I saw this when it first aired as an ABC TV Movie of the Week. It was hilarious, but dark. I remember when I watched it, the ending was really funny, but I can't remember it right now. It had something to do with Stockard Channing's character being allergic to roses. It was the first time I had ever seen Stockard Channing, and I thought she was great in it. Very pretty in her youth, too.
When I look back now at the premise of it - an ugly girl is bullied, gets in an accident and becomes beautiful through plastic surgery, then returns to kill everyone who was mean to her - it's not surprising the script was penned by Joan Rivers.
Joan always felt less beautiful than her peers and seemed to harbor a lot of resentment toward beautiful women who seemed to get things handed to them easily simply because of their looks. I'm sure writing this was a cathartic experience for her.

Doesn't Stockard Channing end up marrying Ed Asner in jail?

Well, here is that ABC Movie of the Week, along with that cool intro announcing it as so! I think I'll watch it again, since I'm quarantined.

R5 Yes. He played the detective investigating the murders. He ends up arresting her, but he's already fallen in love with her, so marries her in prison.

R6 Those Movie of the Week intros were great! Most of the time, they were better than the movies themselves.

I LOVED it. Stockard sizzled in it. The message is solid: beauty is only skin deep.

R6 38:00 is when she's revealed as her new pretty self. As silly as this movie seems, it also appears to be more profound than I originally remembered it.

It's interesting that Channing played the lead, when in the real world around that time, her looks were often compared to Elizabeth Taylor's.

We had a long thread about The ABC Movie Of The Week. That theme gives me great joy, a time in my life growing up that was wonderful. This is what pisses me off about show biz sometime. There are years worth of these movies, some Emmy winners, they were cool, not like the Hallmark schmaltz they make now and they are all sitting in a vault doing nothing. They should syndicate them as a set for MeTV or any of the 200 other useless channels we have now.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED it when it was originally on TV. Thought it was okay, nothing more when I saw it again. This movie is not for repeat viewings.

So they do her hair, throw on lots of makeup and false eyelashes and now she's pretty? Haha. Give me a break. Channing is one of those people that just always seems old. In that movie she sounds like a 50 year old mother and wife from the fifties. Haha.

R14 It's called Suspension of Disbelief. Yes, it's a far fetched premise, but the movie is a comedy, so you're expected to abandon a high degree of plausibility.

Most movies are not for repeat viewings. Like "Knives Out" saw it the theater, enjoyed it but have zero desire to ever watch it again.

Two "haha"s in one post, R14. This must be the best day of the year for you.

Directed by "Peyton Place" hottie Lee Philips.

Why is there a more modern MGM logo inserted between the opening and the movie? Does MGM have the rights to all of these old ABC productions now?
