Chicago Mayor Memes

After reading the thread about NYC's crowded parks, in spite of the stay at home order, I thought DL might enjoy the following ...

After a pissed off Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfood closed the Chicago lakefront after the first warm day of the season brought crowds out, memes have surfaced portraying the stern faced mayor.

Here's one.

Oddly enough, she is doing nothing about overcrowding on buses. The CTA cut bus service, which is understandable, why run empty buses, but the effect is more people just get on the ones remaining, thus negating the social distancing.

I fail to see her getting mad about that...

by Anonymousreply 41April 5, 2020 11:03 PM

r40 that's how politics works, especially in Chicago. A genius from South Bend should have know that. Chicago Mayors don't play nice. You want their support, then bend over and spread them cheeks.

Lori is a good Mayor. She's not one to kiss peoples asses or take shit from Presidential campaigns. Sorry, not sorry.

47 comments on the malignant dwarf, but not one comment about how she was busted at her news conference yesterday. After all of her ranting about staying in and about social distancing, she's giving a news conference with all of her staff, and suddenly one of the reporters notices that they're standing on top of each other with no masks. She, of course, is too important for a mask. Then a reporter notices that she got a haircut. How did she get the haircut? She got her hairstylist to open her shop for her alone. So much for social distancing. It appears that different rules apply for different people. Pretty much grown to expect that from the democrat machine. At least this time she got busted and is keeping her mouth shut. It's a good indication of how really unpopular she is, especially with the press.

by Anonymousreply 48April 9, 2020 1:08 AM

Is the mayor a lesbian? Who's had her?

by Anonymousreply 49April 9, 2020 1:12 AM

It's a mistake to start believing the Atta Girl kudos.

by Anonymousreply 50April 9, 2020 1:36 AM

R34 is a humorless twat.

by Anonymousreply 51April 9, 2020 2:02 AM

r48 she's just not warm and comes of humorless. I say this as a supporter that's been to at least three events in her presence. I take it that she's more socially awkward and reserved then intentionally cold. There isn't much in the news besides Corona so the questions seem appropriate. I don't want elected Officials to look busted in public, so get them hair cuts Lori.

by Anonymousreply 52April 9, 2020 4:27 AM

Chicago’s press is owned, so it’s not as if she invests time with them - it’s National press where she can cover old habits die hard bs.

by Anonymousreply 53April 9, 2020 5:48 AM

As someone who lives in the hateful suburbs of Chicago, I really want LL to be a big, fat success as mayor.

And even though she bears the political "burden" of being black, and female, AND gay, she pretty much cakewalked to victory in the election. So we're not as unenlightened here as the coastal elites would have you think.

And while these are extremely bleak times, and she needs to appear serious about the job and her execution of it, she COULD be a little less scowl-y. Reminds me of the perpetual expressions on the faces of those kids in the late, lamented "Boondocks" comic strip.

by Anonymousreply 54April 9, 2020 8:34 AM

The Malignant Dwarf is no better than her predecessors of the democrat machine during the last century who have done a fantastic job of running the City of Chicago down to the levels of Detroit. She "cakewalked" into office in a reaction to the other candidate, who also had the "disadvantages" of being black and a woman, as well as being a well recognized member of the machine who pushed highly unpopular taxes down the people's throats, especially a tax on soda that she was forced to repeal. The frog looking dwarf had no such known ties to the machine, and people voted for her as an alternative to the machine. Since election, she has proven herself to play to her audience. While campaigning to lower taxes and fiscal responsibility, during her first major challenge, she totally caved to the Chicago Teachers Union and agreed to a 16% pay raise for the teachers. Please bear in mind that the union has some of the highest paid teachers in the country, with their pensions totally paid the taxpayers, with a guaranteed 3% pension increase every year. Retired teachers making over $150,000 a year in retirement are common. She was talking about getting tough on crime, and yet the murder rate in Chicago, especially in black neighborhoods, is skyrocketing. She has covered up a scandal in her bodyguard unit, where the girlfriend of one of her female bodyguards tried to take out a murder contract on a rival. Her public posture is as an intemperate, demanding, and demanding little snot who tries to portray an aura of superiority, to cover up her obvious incompetence. While she is popular with the leftist, so called "progressive" people here, she is highly unpopular with the middle class who are being saddled with ever increasing taxes to cover her ever increasing programs. While she claims she wants to stamp out insider government contracts, she also now wants to have set aside contracts for lesbians, again, her own people. She is a fitting successor to the line of Daleys, Emanuels, and other ward heelers that have run this city into the ground.

by Anonymousreply 55April 9, 2020 1:54 PM

r55 Rahm helped attract the white collar tech jobs that are spread all over the Loop, West Loop, and River North. His investments, at the expense of the poor, helped beautify the city's downtown and bring in high paying jobs. Chicago lost a lot of low income people of color during the Rauner v Madigan budget pissing contests, but there was in influx of white college educated workers into Chicago. The higher wages increase gentrification but also increase tex revenue.

Lori can't change Chicago on her own. This city is still one of the best in the nation. Detroit wishes to be half as successful as Chicago. I'm not head over heels impressed with Lori, but she's managing the ship. Chicago is always a shell game of allocating limited resources to a specific group.

I'm a person of color that lives on the north end. I was able to find a wonderful job in a primer American city with a strong gay and black community. Party of Chicago are shamefully unsafe and left behind. I understand the frustration, but I hate when people act like Chicago is some failed state. It's basically 3 separate city experiences under one name.

by Anonymousreply 56April 9, 2020 3:03 PM

Your poor we’re pushed to South burbs and Joliet where all the old bigots went to die. There are no jobs. Please continue to pretend our Midwest wasn’t stripped and left for dead.

by Anonymousreply 57April 9, 2020 9:58 PM

R55 All that Rahm Emanuel did was to continue the policies of Richard Daley Jr., and raise taxes sky high. He has done nothing for the middle class people of Chicago. If you're not aware, there are really two Chicagos, one east of the river, and one west. East of the river gets all of the improvements, special incentives to spur real estate development, better schools, etc., West of the river you get tax bills, and more tax bills, and yet more tax bills. I can remember when my water bill was about $40 yearly. Now it's like $1300. It's great that I can finance all of these city improvements for the city developers, while the sidewalks here are crumbling. Emanuel attracted all of these young people, but once they get married, have children, and take a good hard look at the schools, they're off to the suburbs. I agree with R57 that the town was stripped of all of the industry and jobs, basically by the unions working hand in hand with the machine. Nobody can afford to make anything here anymore. I don't know who Lightfoot is trying to kid, but she really is doing a fine job of getting people to flee the city. Trust me, I'm working on it.

by Anonymousreply 58April 9, 2020 10:24 PM

This is why I called it a tale of two cities. North sides of Chicago are vibrant, fun, and relatively safe. Apartments are still expensive so the demand is there. Other parts of the city aren’t so great, but with gentrifications they will also be brought up to snuff. That’s just the way the world works. I see Chicago become a Vancouver. There are (were) lots of shite collar jobs r58 in Chicago. How do you think those 20 something year olds can afford overpriced drinks and food at swanky bars in West Loop or River North on the weekends? A tale of two cities.

by Anonymousreply 59April 9, 2020 11:30 PM

C’mon, don’t drag this thread down into a discussion of Chicago politics. This is about her and funny memes.

Open a new thread if you want to debate her merits and demerits.

by Anonymousreply 60April 9, 2020 11:55 PM

R58 is a worthless right winger who pukes right wing talking points in horrible run off paragraphs. Stop engaging with it.

by Anonymousreply 61April 10, 2020 12:07 AM

R58 No, I am not a "worthless right winger." I am a taxpayer sick and tired of being robbed. You obviously live east of the river.

by Anonymousreply 62April 10, 2020 12:16 AM

R62, it takes six months to get the taste of Chicago out of your mouth, but it’s worth it. Play ā€˜Flee The Nazis’ and travel far away.

by Anonymousreply 63April 10, 2020 4:30 AM

[quote] And even though she bears the political "burden" of being black, and female, AND gay, she pretty much cakewalked to victory in the election.

To be fair, her opponent was a firm believer in the Jussie Smollett hoax. She promised to hunt down the "MAGA country" attackers if she was elected.

To Lightfoot's credit, she called it a hoax early in her campaign.

by Anonymousreply 64April 10, 2020 4:52 AM

Another thread crashes and burns.

by Anonymousreply 65April 10, 2020 10:32 AM

R64: Newsflash. NO ONE cares about Jussie Smollett. Kim Foxx won the primary last month with 52% of the vote. NO. ONE. CARES!!!!

R62: Nope, douchebag. I live west of the city, attending grad school. And your rambling incoherent post bashing unions and engaging every right wing talking point shows you to be who you are. Now get out of my metropolitan region and don't come back. But we all know you're not going anywhere....

by Anonymousreply 66April 10, 2020 5:06 PM

Since we mentioned Kim Foxx, and this thread has been derailed, can I mention her Primary opponent, Bill Conway? I want that man to be my quarantine partner and fuck me for hours on end. Plus, he’s the son a billionaire, a damn dream!

He was in Pete Buttigiege’s military unit, they are friends. Pete and chasten can come over for dinner! I met Bill once. Nice guy, with a sweet ass. Please run again daddy!

R66 Congratulations on your grad school work! I see you must be doing your doctorate in journalism, as you are displaying every element of fake news. First of all, you call me a lot of names, secondly, you do not address a single point I am trying to make about the endemic corruption in this city. All you can do is throw mud, and not address the issues. Now as far as getting up and leaving the city, I am certainly working on it. I have lived here almost seventy years, so I do not need some young child to tell me to leave. I have managed to get rid of all of my investments in the city, and as soon as I can tie up some more close ends, I certainly will be leaving this city to people like you. Let's see what you have to say when you start paying the bills.
