I encourage everyone to read that Twitter thread. It is by the guy who did the podcast.
Lots of interesting tidbits. Like how likely your house was to burn down if you crossed Joe.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 31, 2020 8:15 PM |
Yes they left an awful lot out of that doco, wonder why they left Joe's guilt ambiguous when it's quite clear he deserves to be in jail?

I read Carole's statement on her web page and it seems reasonable to me.

So the nerdy libertarian Wallmart dude is openly gay. That's actually a twist, not the bisexual men they insist on calling straight.

They are probably mostly straight
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 31, 2020 11:18 PM |
I think Joe should be in jail for his treatment of animals. All of them should be really. It's disgusting how they sell and euthanize the animals.
Carole is disgusting for making money off donations and keeping the animals in those tiny cages- the very cages she's trying to free them from.

R9 I'd be fine with him being pardoned for the murder-for-hire charge, but to have to serve time for the animal related charges. It seems very clear that he was entrapped into the murder-for-hire to get him out of the way for Jeff Lowe.

Joe Milli Vanillied his music. It wasn’t even his voice.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 1, 2020 12:10 AM |
R12 I think you are confused, when one Milli Vanilli’s music you take an unattractive singer and use a model to lip sync the song, Joe’s was the opposite.

I am absolutely shocked that the article you linked to is by a woman. Shocked!! She even has to admit (buried in the middle of an overly lengthy screed) that it looks like Carole Baskin played a role in her husband’s death. Poor poor Carole.
She looks bad in the documentary because she IS bad. Every fucking person in the series is terrible.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 1, 2020 3:15 AM |

No, I'd say Saff is definitely a good person who genuinely cared about the tigers and their welfare. So there WAS one person in the series who wasn't terrible.

The guy who lost his legs seemed pretty decent. And the secretary.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 1, 2020 3:22 AM |
I think John Finlay is a decent guy, too. Yeah, yeah, he did/does meth, and probably smokes pot, but he seems to be someone who nevertheless cared about the welfare of the animals, even if he DID eventually get burned out by the never-ending state of crisis.
Come to think about it, John was probably the archetype of animal-rescue person... someone who gets into it because they really, really care a lot... then after a while, just starts to feel completely enslaved by it and engulfed by the sheer never-ending hopelessness of everything.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 1, 2020 3:28 AM |
I'm almost inclined to give Antle a partial half-pass for (kind of) doing (almost) the right thing for the wrong reasons. He's far from being the patron saint of tigers, but unlike Joe, he managed to keep his life sufficiently together to sustainably run his business & keep the tigers cared for... and unlike Carole, he's not out to beat everyone else down.
Don't get me wrong... I think he's the only person whose welfare he genuinely cares about... but he's at least astute enough to realize that he can't win by himself, and that it's going to take a collective effort (with him as its de-facto leader, though I suspect he views it more as an annoying, tedious chore than a power-grab) to protect themselves from Carole and people aligned with her.
Joe is nuts... but Jeff is evil, and Carole is the devil incarnate.

by Anonymous | reply 32 | April 1, 2020 6:19 AM |
r30, the thing is, if somebody really wants to play with tigers in person, there aren't a lot of viable options. Antle isn't manipulating the women so much as facilitating their indulgence in an obsession they already had & sought him out for on their own for. Shades of gray, toma(y)to-toma(h)to, but you get the idea.
Is he using the women? Absolutely.
Is it wrong? Ugh, kind of/sort of.
Do the women go into his service willingly & enthusiastically? Yeah, it's pretty obvious that they do.
Basically, they're all in it for pussy... of one kind or another.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 1, 2020 6:35 AM |
The wrong person is in jail. So he goes to jail for failing to do to the woman what she successfully did to her second husband? That's irony right there. I know it's wrong to arrange to have someone killed, but at the same time I hope he gets out and gets serious therapy. Also Carole Baskin comes across as a total hypocritical self-righteous cunt whom everybody fawns over (kinda like Tricia from CDAN) who is clearly a greedy woman who obviously did what everybody thinks she did. She's just making up all of those shitty abuse claims against the other two zoo parks because she wants to get them shut down so that she doesn't have competition. She's hardly doing anything different in her park than the other two guys were.
Also, I'm saddened that Joe's hot husband died. He had porn star looks. Unlike that method out toothless redneck they both married.

by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 1, 2020 8:02 AM |
R37, I think it’s easier to prove copyright infringement than libel/slander in a court of law. And she didn’t want to be on the defensive when she could attack him. Just my opinion.

by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 1, 2020 12:10 PM |
Didn't Carole say that she was sexually abused as a child? Her second husband was called a sex addict by his own, estranged daughters. Both had, or have, issues with sex and I think that was what drew them to each other in the first place. Just look at the wedding pictures of Carole's third marriage. I would not be surprised if she is a dominatrix with an S&M dungeon somewhere.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 1, 2020 12:12 PM |

r47, you're right... I totally forgot about that. I'll still give him a tiny, tiny fractional benefit of doubt in the sincere hope that he either sold the tigers to someone, or that it was a very brief & shameful part of his past he now regrets & feels remorse for. But if it's something he's done, continues to do, and doesn't at least cry about occasionally... that benefit of doubt goes to zero.
The sad fact is, Antle IS one of the very few articulate members of the big-cat community who comes across reasonably well in public, even IF everyone privately cringes when digging deeper. His "DC petting zoo roadtrip" was a stroke of pure lobbying genius.
Put another way... I wouldn't quite forgive him, but wouldn't unwaveringly condemn him forever if it were proven that he killed a few tigers 10-20 years ago (when he was still starting up) & now was saddened & ashamed, but I'd *absolutely* hold it against him if he kept unapologetically doing it, or did it recently... even after his finances became stable.
If dealing with aged-out tigers were a problem for Antle, he has enough land to literally build a street of townhomes backing up onto a small 5-10 acre sanctuary & sell/rent them, along with his aged-out tiger cubs, to people who want big cats of their own, but couldn't even fantasize about affording everything necessary to do it legally & properly from scratch. Antle could literally create a community of big-cat owners who could share resources (and a big tiger playground).
Buying an on-site cub would require purchasing a 25-year annuity adequate to cover their projected lifetime food, medical care, and day-to-day zookeeping by staff, and guarantee you access to your tiger. If you bought/rented a home on-site, you could let your big kitty inside. In both cases, you'd have to get your own class 1 zookeeping license to be allowed unfettered contact, and pay for your own liability insurance for them to be allowed into your adjacent home. The whole compound would be secured against escape, with the costs shared by the homeowner's association.
Kind of like the guy who, pre-2008, got the idea of building a condo with 10-25 acre equestrian park & stables in Miami's "Redlands" neighborhood near the Turnpike (a/k/a, "Horse Country"). Residents nearby weren't sure whether to scream or celebrate, since it would have simultaneously been their best dream (horses, lush landscaping, and hurricane-hardened shelter available for nearby residents with horses to use as well) & ultimate worst nightmare (a very, very non-rural cluster of 10-24 story towers on top of a HUGE 4 story parking garage pedestal with stables, rooftop pool, & tennis courts)... and double the horses presently living in the area.

Interesting that Carole sued Joe for copyright instead of defamation.
I bet that decision was made so that questions about killing her husband and/or being a prostitute wouldn't be allowed in sworn depositions, as they would be immaterial to a copyright violation claim.

For that poster who was doubting the appeal of tigers, in Dillon's own words
[quote]Passage first met Maldonado-Passage about two years ago at his Safari Bar. Maldonado-Passage serenaded Passage with a karaoke performance of his song “This Old Town” before inviting him back to the zoo — about a half-mile from the bar. “I got to play with baby tigers, which was frickin’ insane,” Passage recalled. He returned the following evening after Maldonado-Passage, then running for Oklahoma governor, took him to a Christmas parade. “Then I just never left the zoo,” Passage said.

Dillion comes across as surprisingly articulate and level-headed in that video.
I thought it was interested that he said the first time John Methmouth met him, John hit on him. "A straight guy wouldn't do that."
But, of course, he was in a "bad place." Those were they guys Joe went after.

Dillion is pretty cagey about what he says. He seems to be protecting Joe (or Joe's willingness to let him keep the Camero).
Joe being in jail is the perfect setup for Dillion: He can still have access to the cars/money left, talk a love game, but never have to touch that nasty cock with padlocks dangling from the end.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | April 1, 2020 10:49 PM |
Uhhhh...what the hell are you talking about r76? Didn't this documentary teach you not to do meth?

Of all the people on the show Carole comes off the worst. Yet one of them runs a sex cult, the other has had one too many husbands and had a hit on another and yet another stole his friend's business! People get very irked when someone gets away with murder. Especially when someone like Carole who is beyond evil and has the wicked cackle of a witch in a horror film.

I suspect the husband who killed himself was mostly straight, but toothless joe definitely pinged. He's probably bi, but if a rich guy came along and wanted to fund his rural gun shooting lifestyle he'd leave that chick in a minute. In fact, money probably wouldn't matter, if some like minded hot rural gay guy hit on him he wouldn't say no.

R79, the kid is rolling around in a brand new Camaro and was sheltered by Joe not paying for rent or the food in his stomach. He was living on a blow up mattress at his cousin's place prior to meeting Joe. He wanted stability and a place he could stay. I'm sure he got plenty of financial perks while he could too. I'm sure Joe gave him cash and possessions to keep so they wouldn't be confiscated by the courts. Dillon is a grifter too!

by Anonymous | reply 85 | April 1, 2020 11:01 PM |
I thought it was interesting that Dillion said, "Everyone comes across in this documentary exactly as they are."
That was slam on John, Jeff, and Carole -- but also Joe. Although Joe is probably so giddy with the attention it's gotten him he doesn't realize how badly he comes across.
Dillion definitely has it out for John. Refuting his claim to being straight. And then mocking his meth mouth.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | April 1, 2020 11:02 PM |
Joe seems nice and sweet deep down and I'm sure after a while Dillon developed a certain kind of love and compassion for Joe, but you have to be doing as much meth as they were if you can't see how transactional that relationship was/is. Dillon probably isn't all bad and feels a sense of duty or of "owing" Joe for providing him some stability, but that reasonably attractive 20 something was not sexually or romantically interested in Joe. He is thanking his lucky stars he can play the dedicated, ride-or-die husband from afar without actually having to touch a stringy, skinny fat, mullet wearing kook!
by Anonymous | reply 87 | April 1, 2020 11:04 PM |
Well no shit being with Joe improved Dillon's life r84,like all of Joe's partners he was poor and living on the edge when Joe found him.

by Anonymous | reply 88 | April 1, 2020 11:06 PM |
R88 I personally feel leading someone to believe you have a deep love for them when really you don't is "doing something" to someone. It will hurt Joe tremendously once the chaos and attention dies down and Dillon stops taking those collect calls because he is no longer benefitingfrom their arrangement. No one can believe Dillon is going to wait for Joe or even maintain contact for the next 22 years.

Joe won't actually be in prison for 22 years... he'll be out on parole in 5-8, guaranteed. Whether he'll be able to STAY out, or whether he'll piss off the judge and get his ass thrown right back in, is another matter entirely. He was put on trial for murder-for-hire, but he was honestly CONVICTED for the animal violations... the same way Al Capone was sent to prison for tax evasion. Animal cruelty is bad, but on the hierarchy of crime & legal punishment, actually ranks fairly low. The judge won't be happy about giving Joe parole... but he'll give Joe enough rope to hang himself, absolutely confident that he WILL.

Call me crazy, but I think Dillon is not so different from Carole. Both saw an opportunity to better themselves by catching themselves a sugar daddy. With Joe in prison Dillon has access to some assets. The scene in the storage facility where someone read some papers aloud and Dillon snatched them away could indicate that Dillon is in possession of material that some would pay good money for.

I hope Joe dies caged up in prison. Burning the baby gators to spite the doco producer was one thing, but it was the part with the chimps got me. Locked apart for 10 years and then wouldn't stop hugging each other when they were released at the new sanctuary was so incredibly sad. No sympathy for Joe though. He's exactly where he should be.
I hope Baskins is ultimately convicted of murder too. Her fear of the big cats, talking about how fast they can turn on a person, really makes me think she did it.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | April 2, 2020 11:41 AM |
R106 that chimp story was devastating!! Joe seemed to realize he was wrong to have kept them apart. However it begs the question why??? Their cages seemed big enough for two from what I saw, or could have combined the two habitats. But regardless, I am curious why he never let the two be together in the same enclosure? Did he think they would fight? Did he misunderstand some scientific information he read somewhere about chimps in captivity? I am positive he didnt do it just to be an asshole and torture those animals for no reason. Along the way he must have been told they couldn't be together or the chimps at one point showed aggression toward one another that led him to believe they couldn't cohabitate in the same enclosure. It was such a simple story, but so damn sad.

This got me wondering about what happened to Seigfried and Roy. Didn't one of them get killed by their cats or did they just retire?
by Anonymous | reply 108 | April 2, 2020 1:45 PM |
They retired, the tiger (Mant[i/e]core) continued living with them, and I think eventually died from old age. Roy was fiercely protective of her, because he KNEW she didn't intend to hurt him & it was just a horrible accident.

I think we discussed the other documentary of crazy ass big cat collectors "Cat Dancers". That was another oddball story. Flaming gay man, married to his female dance partner involved in a throuple with another guy ending in tragedy too.

As usual, Mink Stole is the correct answer.
The reactions to this series are almost as fascinating as the series itself. Shows how much we like to have people to root for, and how much more we like to have people to despise.

The part with the chimpanzees was heartbreaking but I liked that Joe showed Self retrospection. Nobody else in the doc ever did.

For me, the biggest slap in the face was how I immediately sided with Carole at first. I thought she and her husband were well-spoken, seemed compassionate, and were well meaning, educated liberal Jews.
WRONG! She's trailer trash without a high school degree, who most likely worked as a hooker. She lies and manipulates extremely well.
Don't judge a book by its cover, indeed!
Oh - final takeaway - nobody should own these animals. End of story. And Fuck Shaq for buying two MORE of them!

by Anonymous | reply 117 | April 3, 2020 5:18 AM |
I actually believe that John is bi or straight. He was young when he got with Joe. Joe by admission took advantage of the vulnerable. He specifically hired people who were fresh out of jail or on the skids, populations of which have higher incidences of drug use, addiction, and childhood abuse/trauma. There are plenty of young straight guys who have been abused and end up being confused about their sexuality. I'm not sure why this is so hard to believe.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | April 3, 2020 9:23 AM |
It's homophobic propaganda. I enjoyed the series but it contributes to the myth of the predatory gay man preying on vulnerable straight guys--This was a gay man entering into a series of codependent relationships with bisexuals-- his being damaged and taken advantage of as well didn't factor in to the "gay for pay" storyline. He certainly didn't coerce a man into being his partner for over a decade.
John Finlay has a serious case of gayface and if you look on twitter the fraus are now eating him up and scorning the awful gay predators who they just KNOW all have the power to brainwash their innocent straight boyfriends.
It feeds right into the "ex-gay" conversion therapy trope.

R121 - I would say more so. Those women weren't being paid. They were forced to get implants. And there were a lot more of them.
But straight people don't balance the sheets like that - they will only concentrate on the deviant gays.
by Anonymous | reply 122 | April 3, 2020 3:16 PM |
It's silly to think that any straight person, even the most "fly over," would watch this and think Joe is a "typical gay."
Everyone on this show is so over-the-top, outrageous and fucked up. That's why this train wreck has been so popular to watch.

I wish they had showed Joe torturing and killing animals more.
They made his seem way too harmless and "madcap" when he is actually quite evil from what I've read.
He routinely killed tiger cubs that outgrew being petable.
He shot grown tigers so he would have to feed them.
On lady donated a horse to his "sanctuary" and he immediately shot it and fed it to the tigers.

It's a fine line. Many of us don't really want to actually see animals being abused. It's tough enough to have it be alluded to.

I was surprised they didn't even call out Joe's music for the Milli Vanilli situation. They showed a lot of it, but never told the audience he didn't make the music or sing it.
The person who did the podcast liked the documentary, but did think it was overly kind to Joe.

That's a very valid point.
But they could have people talk about it more. Without showing it.
And also to the fact that people who got in disagreements found that their houses burned to the ground a few days later.
I felt that they producers were trying to make Joe seem just "kooky" so their main character would be more popular on Netflix. It worked.

Everyone on that show is awful besides Saff, Cowie and the employee of Joe’s that lost his legs.
Carole is not likable, however for the show to portray as her villain is mighty rich considering Joe’s hit on her, Joe scamming his own parents out of money ( as his niece briefly mentions in episode 5), and how Joe treated some of his employees.
He deserves his jail time.

r129 It's the same reason Trump won, people hate a woman they don't like way more than a man they don't like. I actually don't mind Carol im not convinced she killed her husband because from the looks of it there's way too many grifters around Don to ignore as possible suspects or maybe Don did get away to some foreign location and was more than happy to leave clues behind to make it look carole did it, didn't seem like he cared for her much at the end. Did the documentary ever mention that Carole runs a non profit, if that's true then she's not like the others who are clearly in it for the money

She claims it's a non-profit. But she doesn't pay employees and charges a fortune for people to look at her cats.
She's probably socking away more money than Joe could have ever dreamed of.
I think that's why she's freaking out over this documentary. It blows her cover and makes her look more like Joe than not like him.

I worked for a non-profit, as well. And, CharityNavigator is legit, as long as the IRS documents are correct, and they are not always correct. I looked up the documents for the non-profit I worked for and they were way off. I informed the IRS, after I quit. I don't know what happened with any investigation. I know the income reported was much too low and the expenses were much too high, because I created the reservation and payment system. I don't think it was a coincidence that the founder and head of the non-profit I worked for happen to have a home on a Caribbean island known for off-shore accounts.

Divine as Joe Exotic (of course). David Lochery as Doc Antle. Cookie Mueller as the one armed lesbian. Edith Massey as Carol (perfect). But my partner and I can't agree on where Mink Stole would go.
The husbands would be played by any of the younger male hotties in early waters films (George Figgs, Danny Mills, etc.)

Awful all around. I think I spotted maybe 3 decent people in the whole thing. And I'm not even sure, that might just be in contrast to the rest. Joe deserves to rot in jail for burning up those alligators, murdering those tigers, and abusing all those animals. He got off easy.

Not sure how much of these people's stories can be taken at face value but Carole said she was gang raped at 12 or so by local boys. Joe allegedly was sexually abused at an even younger age.
Travis looked drugged out of his mind for most of his footage in episode 2. There was a shot of him and Joe lounging on the couch, Joe was petting a cub and pawing Travis while Travis was just staring at the TV frozen in stupor with a manic grin on his face. Also when they were shown in the copter flying over Carole's property he was just out of it.

A former intern at Carole's rescue explains about the facility and the work system
I have to say, the volunteer shirt coding made a lot of sense even before I read that reddit thread as did Carole saying she didn't know names of many people. People who are spooked by this need to think what it means to have a large number of volunteers at a large animal rescue with different skills and levels of familiarity with animals. Color coding (or any other uniform-type system) makes it easy to quickly figure out who is at what level of skill and experience when you need someone to take care of this or that animal. And probably people from the higher levels take in and teach the lower until they get to a certain level of skill.
As to not knowing names, if she has hundreds of volunteers, she won't be meeting with them every day. Who knows if she even hires them personally. Does a CEO of a relatively large company know the names of everyone who works at the company?

R203, big cats that have been kept or bred as pets or show cats often can't be let back in the wild. Cats that are rescued from the wild can sometimes be returned, it depends on how they were handled in rehabilitation.

[quote]Having no interest to rehabilitate the cats into the wild is selfish.
How old is that footage?
Carole started as a breeder / trader and turned into an animal rescue.
Joe started allegedly as an animal rescue and turned into a breeder and trader.
Their motives evolved in opposite directions.

R205 The producers of the Netflix show said Carole had no interest in seeing the cats in the wild. It seemed like she wanted to live with cats.
This rescue below is slightly better, has more veterinarians but look how they make their money holding weddings. It's very pricey.
by Anonymous | reply 207 | April 5, 2020 10:50 PM |
I'm not defending her, I'm just pointing out that sadly we need sanctuaries for wild animals that have been bred and kept as pets. If Carole wants to only focus on rescuing cats that can't be released, I'm not going to hate on her for it because the need is there.
Interestingly though, if the Big Cat Safety Act (the federal bill she's pushing) ever passes, it would help reduce the need.

The Tiger King series ended with the statistics that there are between 5,000 and 10,000 tigers live in captivity in the US, but fewer than 4,000 tigers remain in the wild.
There's no way to release these captive tigers in the wild. They don't know how to hunt to survive, they're used to people and won't avoid poachers or hunters, they are also cross-bred in captivity which doesn't happen in the wild, some have genetic defects, and let's not even start on the ligers and other hybrids - etc. etc.
So the only reasonable option for the captive tigers barring very few exceptions is to get them to a nice sanctuary to live out their remaining lives, not release them in the wild. Carole is aware of this fact. So what is she supposed to do if she wants to improve the situation of captive cats in the US, R207?
She is lobbying for legislation, and provides sanctuary. That's what other animal rights and welfare orgs also do. Other orgs do conservation work in the wild but that's a different angle.

The "BIg Cat Public Safety Act" won't do SHIT to "protect lions and tigers in the wild".
For all intents and purposes, every big cat in the possession of an American private owner was, in fact, born in America. American tigers might be descended from immigrants, but most of THEIR ancestors were living in America before OUR OWN ancestors were (esp. if your ancestry is Italian, Irish, Yiddish, or eastern European in general). Literally ZERO lions and tigers living with private owners in the US today were born in "the wild" and transported here. It just doesn't happen, because there's no reason FOR it to happen. We have abundant lions and tigers IN the US that could be purchased for not even a tiny FRACTION of what it would cost to buy one captured from "the wild" and transported here now.
Drug smugglers are, fundamentally, businessmen. They aren't going to gamble 20+ years of prison and the loss of everything they've worked to achieve just to bring an illegal tiger or lion into the US that might... MIGHT... sell for $50k-100k, when they smuggle a fucking SHOEBOX packed with a million dollars worth of cocaine for a fraction of the risk.
There's also the fact that a lion or tiger snatched from the wild would make a horrible pet, and anyone who'd purchase one is going to be astute enough to KNOW it. American tigers and lions aren't domesticated (really, NO cats are), but they've been selectively bred for decades, maybe a century or more, to favor calm, mellow temperament... and bottle-raised by humans from birth. A lion or tiger snatched from the wild would literally be like the worst, most high-strung & dangerous feral cat you've ever encountered.
Anybody who's ever ENCOUNTERED a true feral cat knows what I'm talking about. A frightened feral cat will FUCK YOU UP... and it really doesn't take much TO frighten them. I don't mean a cat that someone abandoned, I'm talking about a cat whose mother and grandmother, both grew up in a semi-rural area and have essentially reverted to being small wildcats that are now "housecats" in name only.
I'll say this point blank... I'll unhesitatingly get into the enclosure with a friendly tiger (subject to the usual disclaimers about discerning the cat's mood and respecting it) before I *ever* try to grab a frightened feral cat. The tiger might shove me aside, or give me a half-assed swat. A frightened feral street cat will do its best to TEAR YOU TO FUCKING SHREDS.
With cats, socialization and living environment are EVERYTHING. A big cat raised by humans & allowed to live a life of stress-free pampered luxury is literally just a really, really big housecat (who's big enough to stand his own ground if need be, but you get my point). A "housecat" who's multi-generational feral is a LITERAL, honest-to-god "wild" cat.
I HAVE a cat who was multi-generational feral when I rescued her. It took 7 years of bending over backwards to never startle or frighten her just to get to the point where I could even TOUCH her without her bolting the moment she saw my hand approaching, even if it was to give her treats. It was 8 years before she EVER voluntarily made contact with my body. Even now (t=14 years), she'll walk up to ME and cuddle, but if I pick her up and carry her to my bed or the couch, she'll run for her life the moment I let go, re-evaluate the situation from a safe, sheltered spot nearby... and sheepishly come walking back a minute or two later. Nevertheless, she's hardwired... run first and hide, ask questions later.
Carole's proposed law is about taking away big cats from private owners, period, EVEN IF it means ultimately reducing the total number of big cats left in the world.

I think the writer is gay. He starts with the throuple wedding.
by Anonymous | reply 211 | April 6, 2020 1:24 AM |
R210, tigers aren't house cats even when bred in captivity. There's millions of years of genetics and evolution behind their inborn instincts.
by Anonymous | reply 212 | April 6, 2020 1:35 AM |
I wouldn't blame the daughters and their mother for seeming to care slightly more about their father's/husband's money than the man himself. They're angry at him because he up and left them for some sociopathic big cat obsessed streetwalker.
by Anonymous | reply 213 | April 6, 2020 1:39 AM |
That poster is correct that you can't take a big cat that was raised in captivity and just release it in the wild though r212.
It will die. It is completely unprepared for a life in the wild if it spent its whole life in captivity.
by Anonymous | reply 214 | April 6, 2020 1:42 AM |
r212, do you know what the most significant difference is between a happy housecat and a tiger who was a human-fed bottle baby and pampered since literally birth?
400-600 pounds. Nothing more, nothing less.
With cats, environment is EVERYTHING. A tiger can forcefully resist human will in ways a 12 pound housecat can't, but mentally, they're alike more than they're different.
by Anonymous | reply 215 | April 6, 2020 3:56 AM |
R215 If you mean a feral house cat that was raised by people as a kitten, maybe. A house cat house cat? Nope.

Meant Feral domestic cat*
by Anonymous | reply 217 | April 6, 2020 4:33 AM |
R215, here's the actual difference.
Tigers share 95.6 percent of DNA with domestic cats.
For comparison, humans share 98.8 percent of DNA with chimpanzees.
Seems like there's more to a tiger vs cat than mere poundage when you get down to actual science.

Unwatchable, even quarantined indefinitely for a plague.
Bad story telling, bad pacing, bad editing, that turns a somewhat interesting kernel of a Florida white trash story into rubbish.
There's a difference between telling a story in a podcast and telling a story in film, but not to worry, this lot doesn't have a clue how to do either one.

> There's millions of years of genetics and evolution behind their inborn instincts.
Mamallian instincts aren't complex or nuanced. They're reflexes, like "neutralize sources of annoyance and stress", and "avoid death".
Humans have more or less the same ones. When they're detrimental, we call them 'neuroses'.
Actually, humans broadly have at least THREE categories of 'instincts':
1. Those nearly everyone has
2. Those that are mostly expressed by introverts
3. Those that are mostly expressed by extroverts.
Tigers & most other cats overlap mostly with 1 and 2. Lions venture off a bit and take occasional side trips into #3 (kind of like introverted humans who prefer solitude, but might ritualistically go out to a bar anywdy on Friday night due to FOMO & spend the whole time playing with their phone in public). Dogs overlap mostly with #1 and #3.
Frankly, it's hard to see how ANY species that tends towards introversion could be truly domesticated in the conventional sense. AFAIK, *every* species we unambiguously classify as 'domesticated' is a pack/herd animal. Housecats would sneer and sulk if you INSULTED them by calling them "domesticated".
