SVU DILF Elliot Stabler Back in Action: Christopher Meloni To Headline New Dick Wolf Drama Series For NBC

I've liked his post-SVU work, but it better be written into his contract that he gets shirtless at least every 4 episodes.

EXCLUSIVE: A beloved TV character is coming back. NBC has given a 13-episode series order to a new Dick Wolf crime drama series starring Christopher Meloni reprising his Law & Order: SVU role as Elliot Stabler. The drama, which marks the actor’s return to Wolf World, revolves around the NYPD organized crime unit led by Stabler (Meloni). It is the first show to come out of the massive new five-year, nine-figure, multi-platform deal Wolf signed with Universal Television last month, which includes multiple series commitments.

The new series, which could be branded as part of the Law & Order franchise, is executive produced by Wolf, Arthur W. Forney and Peter Jankowski for Wolf Entertainment and Universal TV, a division of NBCUniversal Content Studios. I hear former Chicago P.D showrunner Matt Olmstead is being eyed as writer-showrunner.

Like Law & Order: SVU, headlined by Mariska Hargitay as Olivia Benson, the new drama is set in New York, allowing for potential seamless crossovers with SVU, set at another NYPD unit, and for Benson-Stabler reunions.

With their undeniable on-screen chemistry and great rapport on and off the set, Hargitay and Meloni were one of television’s most popular duos for over a decade.

Meloni was the male lead opposite Hargitay for SVU‘s first 12 seasons, with their characters partners and best friends. Stabler is an Irish American who, during the time he was featured on SVU, was married (his wife Kathy was played by Isabel Gillies) with five children. The role earned Meloni a lead actor in a drama series Emmy nomination in 2006.

Following Meloni’s exit after Season 12, his character was written off, with Stabler abruptly retiring from the police force.

Since departing SVU in 2011, Meloni headlined the Syfy series Happy! and Fox comedy series Surviving Jack, starred on the praised WGA America series Underground, and did memorable arcs on True Blood and The Handmaid’s Tale.

During his almost nine years away from SVU, Meloni remained close with Hargitay and the Wolf family. In January, the former co-stars appeared together, alongside Wolf, in The Paley Center Salutes Law & Order: SVU TV special on NBC. It was around that time I first heard chatter of a potential new Wolf series with Meloni. Formal conversations started soon thereafter.

I've liked his post-SVU work, but it better be written into his contract that he gets shirtless at least every 4 episodes.

I would be happier if Meloni showed his hole again.

by Anonymousreply 1March 31, 2020 7:36 PM

Obviously that means Christopher Meloni was struggling to find any other good offers.

But hey, he will be getting paid.

by Anonymousreply 2March 31, 2020 8:02 PM

I guess this means that he will be house hunting in NYC again.

by Anonymousreply 3March 31, 2020 8:16 PM

I like him, esp that response to a gay fan...he told him to jump into the shower and picture him or something like that...I think the fan mentioned his work on oz or something...

by Anonymousreply 4March 31, 2020 8:21 PM

He's done some interesting work since he left SVU. Get that check, Daddy!

by Anonymousreply 5March 31, 2020 8:24 PM

R2, obviously, to anyone who access imdb.com, Meloni's been working non-stop since exiting SVU.

Personally, I think his new show should be "Elliot Stabler: Naked Detective".

by Anonymousreply 9March 31, 2020 9:02 PM

While he worked consistently post SVU, it was usually in supporting roles. The TV shows he was on a regular (and sometimes was the lead) were cancelled pretty quickly. He probably wasn't making anything close to his peak SVU salary. Get that money while you can, especially with all the shit going on now.

I thought his character had ran it's course on SVU, especially after the repeated attacks on the perps by Stabler. Plus they focused too much on his family. The one daughter was super annoying. I hope they bring back his wife, just to piss off the annoying Stabler/Benson stans.

by Anonymousreply 10March 31, 2020 9:14 PM

TV doesn't need this. One Law and Order is bad enough.

by Anonymousreply 11March 31, 2020 9:16 PM

Isn’t SVU going away? I thought it was in its final season.

by Anonymousreply 12March 31, 2020 9:17 PM

R12 Nope. It's been renewed for 3 more season's.

by Anonymousreply 13March 31, 2020 9:18 PM

Or seasons, even.

by Anonymousreply 14March 31, 2020 9:19 PM

Chris should be on TV all day, everyday.

I don't care if TV needs it or not. I need it.

by Anonymousreply 17March 31, 2020 9:25 PM

I don't know about this but I'll watch one or two episodes.

by Anonymousreply 18March 31, 2020 11:34 PM

He’s fucking hot, football shaped head and all.

by Anonymousreply 19April 1, 2020 3:02 AM

I used to think his family was annoying too. Now I would take an entire season worth of Stabler family drama as long as there was no Noah Benson drama.

by Anonymousreply 20April 2, 2020 3:54 AM

I hated the original Law And Order but enjoyed bits of the Criminal Intent. Vincent D’Donofrio was funny and wacky until he wasn’t.

I binged some SVU in Australia over lockdown where 3 different seasons are showing concurrently. It’s not too bad. The Incredible Shrinking Cast is a bit sad. I guess Wolf couldn’t afford all those supporting characters on contract. Anyone know why Danny Pino didn’t last?

I am having trouble telling the Peter Stone apart from Sonny.

by Anonymousreply 21July 9, 2020 1:50 PM

He was so hot in Handmaids Tale when he was getting handsy with Commander Waterford. Was hoping they'd dig a little deeper in that subplot.

by Anonymousreply 22July 9, 2020 2:01 PM

Still HAF. I'll be watching.

by Anonymousreply 23July 9, 2020 2:02 PM

He is so damn hot. And he was great in Happy!

by Anonymousreply 24July 9, 2020 2:28 PM

The best guns on television. And booty.

by Anonymousreply 25July 9, 2020 4:27 PM

I hated criminal intent. Could never get into it.

by Anonymousreply 26July 9, 2020 4:42 PM

Goren was a savant of some sort. There was very little he didn’t know, but the writers could sometimes stretch credibility. And D’Onofrio is a bit of a ham.

by Anonymousreply 27July 9, 2020 4:57 PM

I'd love to play a witness (not a suspect on an SVU episode) and I have key information and I go to leave an interrogation room and Elliot doesn't want me to go. He can't arrest me, but he just blocks me from leaving the room just by fucking standing there and then he tries to convince me to do the right thing.

I can feel his breath on my neck ... my eyes are even with his pecs... hot hot hot

by Anonymousreply 28July 13, 2020 7:17 AM

Can't Meloni find work with anyone else? He did have a short role on Pose as the sleazy fuck buddy. Dick Wolf sucks, all he does is scroll through the New York Post or Daily Mail for his storylines. No creative or unique spark at all.

by Anonymousreply 29July 13, 2020 7:23 AM

Maybe David Pevsner can trek to NY to play some nude scenes with Chris?

by Anonymousreply 30July 13, 2020 7:26 AM

TWOP had a lot of fun describing his volatile, surprisingly judgmental detective as Unstabler.

by Anonymousreply 31July 13, 2020 10:02 AM

L&O: CI was "Murder, She Wrote" if Jessica Fletcher suffered from Asperger's. All the perps started magically confessing their sins once they were in the interrogation room with Goren circling them with his eyes bulging, getting all up in their grill.

by Anonymousreply 32July 13, 2020 11:01 AM

What a handsome man. His eyes, his lips.

by Anonymousreply 33July 13, 2020 11:09 AM

I want to suck and worship his daddy pecs in the worst way. I love this man.

by Anonymousreply 34July 13, 2020 11:22 AM

Shouldn’t that be “SVU GILF” at this point? He’s 60...

by Anonymousreply 35July 13, 2020 12:04 PM

D or G, I'd fuck him hard.

by Anonymousreply 36July 13, 2020 12:10 PM

[quote]but it better be written into his contract that he gets shirtless at least every 4 episodes.

. . . or what, OP?

by Anonymousreply 37July 13, 2020 12:52 PM

R34, I hear that.

His height is listed at 6' which probably puts him 5'10.5 to 5'11 approx.

I'm 5'7" (well, 5'6 1/4th) so face to face, I'd be around eye level with those pecs probably.

by Anonymousreply 38July 15, 2020 4:57 PM

Are they really going to go through with a show that revolves around a cop with anger issues?

by Anonymousreply 39July 15, 2020 5:19 PM

Well, they've already fired one of their writers for being a maniac, so it's already starting under a dark cloud.

by Anonymousreply 40July 15, 2020 5:23 PM

With everything that's going on, I just don't think this is wise. Stabler could be corrupt and violent. He had rage issues, so now they're going to do an entire show around this character? Why?

by Anonymousreply 41July 15, 2020 5:29 PM

Ug. give us hero Elliot.

Give us what we want.

by Anonymousreply 42July 15, 2020 5:44 PM

Let’s hope Hargitay is kept to a bare minimum in this. She fucking ruined SVU with her rape nonsense and that fucking adopted kid.

It ain’t about you, Mariska.

Now if Meloni gets raped I’ll be sympathetic.

by Anonymousreply 43July 15, 2020 7:08 PM

I wish he would do an only fans. skip the heavy plot lines - just a gun and clothing coming off quickly!

by Anonymousreply 46July 15, 2020 8:49 PM

She’s put on some weight, our Mariska.

by Anonymousreply 47July 15, 2020 8:52 PM

They can't start shooting yet, can they?

by Anonymousreply 50July 15, 2020 9:13 PM

Aweseome.

I've been re-watching True Blood and he was so hot as Roman Zimojic.

by Anonymousreply 51July 15, 2020 9:16 PM

R51, is True Blood still around? If so I don’t know how he can make time in his busy True Blood schedule for the Law and Order series.

by Anonymousreply 52July 15, 2020 9:20 PM

No, R51. True Blood has been gone for a minute.

by Anonymousreply 53July 15, 2020 9:25 PM

He has competition in younger daddies

by Anonymousreply 54July 15, 2020 9:30 PM

Like Elmo, R54.

by Anonymousreply 55July 15, 2020 9:32 PM

Did Olivia ever officially announce whether or not she was raped by that guy who kidnapped her?

by Anonymousreply 56July 15, 2020 9:59 PM

R56 no, the show went back and forth on it over several interminable episodes, but in the end I thought she finally said he didn't.

I feel like they did this in an earlier episode, when she went undercover in a women's prison. It seemed like the rapist guard forced her to blow him, but in the end Benson said it came really close but she was saved in time.

by Anonymousreply 57July 16, 2020 10:21 PM

It was so confusing. Benson acted like she was raped when consoling some victims but then would get super offended when someone else would suggest she was a victim herself.

I remember the the women’s prison episode, I think it was Ice T who saved her. She managed to identify the guard’s penis.

by Anonymousreply 58July 19, 2020 10:05 AM

Poor man's "Wiseguy."

by Anonymousreply 59July 19, 2020 10:09 AM

I'll take Chris Meloni in any show, old or young, raging or not, clothed or not (yes!), playing straight or gay. Just let me eyes fall on that body, that swagger, that ass.

Lol, that's exactly what happened. It was so ridiculous. Eventually it just got to, "Make up your mind already, sheesh."

by Anonymousreply 62July 19, 2020 8:01 PM

I hear he lives in Connecticut now, any sightings?

by Anonymousreply 63July 19, 2020 8:05 PM

He looks so grizzled in his new Instagram pic with Mariska

by Anonymousreply 64July 20, 2020 11:28 AM

Grizzled, frizzled, I don't care: I just want my eyes to fall on Chris Meloni.

by Anonymousreply 65July 20, 2020 12:44 PM

I'll be thankful to see Meloni back on screen too; especially as Elliot.

They could auction off for charity a scene in which Elliot grills you in an interrogation room; and just as it's getting really intense, Olivia calls him outside. "His alibi holds out. He was at a soup kitchen volunteering."

Elliot cuts you loose, tries to apologize. and you get to walk right up to him and say: "Save it, detective! I'm not interested in your apology."

by Anonymousreply 66July 20, 2020 5:32 PM

I'll bid, r66, if you leave Oleebia out. Keep it up, Stabler!

by Anonymousreply 67July 20, 2020 5:35 PM

Will Munch join him? It would be unfortunate to miss this show in his collection.

by Anonymousreply 70July 22, 2020 5:04 AM

I can't wait until they start shooting this new show.

I was on SVU this season in a small (yet pivotal!) role playing a government type. I could easily return to spout some official mumbo jumbo and crush everyone's soul, the way I do in real life. Plus, I'd love to meet Christopher Meloni and see what all that is about up close and personal.

by Anonymousreply 71July 22, 2020 5:07 AM

R71, how was it working with the cast? The production crew?

by Anonymousreply 72July 22, 2020 10:33 AM

R72, I did 2 days background on SVU in December. Crew is very organized, runs like a well oiled machine. Crew, especially Mariska, IceT, Kelly very nice to background (extras in old speak). Mariska nicely assertive as she is now a producer.

by Anonymousreply 73July 22, 2020 11:09 AM

Did you not see Scanavino, r73? I would be so tempted to give him a blowjob if I were ever to encounter him in person.

by Anonymousreply 74July 22, 2020 11:50 AM

Is Hargitay really a producer, or just a "producer" to justify her salary?

by Anonymousreply 75July 22, 2020 12:37 PM

He is the sex.

by Anonymousreply 76July 22, 2020 12:41 PM

[QUOTE] Bring back Mike Logan

If NBC had half a brain, they’d bring back Law & Order with Logan as the senior detective.

by Anonymousreply 77July 22, 2020 12:49 PM

They should focus on his son Dickie coming to terms with his sexuality or his craycray manic slut daughter. I'd watch.

by Anonymousreply 78July 22, 2020 1:13 PM

R77

I wholeheartedly agree. Bring back the mother-ship and ditch SVU if they have to.

But Mike Logan would have to rejoin the department; the end of L&O:Criminal Intent Episode 7/21 "Last Rites" (2008) implied that Logan would retire from the NYPD. Father Shea (Denis O'Hare) basically tells him to get out, and that it was time for him to have a life.

by Anonymousreply 79July 22, 2020 1:28 PM

If ever there was a perfect opportunity to bring it back, it was during negotiations for the blockbuster streaming deal between NBC and Wolf over Peacock. Thought maybe it could come back anew as a Peacock streaming exclusive, at the least. But nothing. Nary a peep. I think it’s dead for good, unfortunately. And I can’t figure out why. I always thought it was like a soap opera and could go on forever.

by Anonymousreply 80July 22, 2020 1:57 PM

R73, Scanavino was not on set either day.....

by Anonymousreply 81July 22, 2020 8:04 PM

^^^sorry addresses to R74

by Anonymousreply 82July 22, 2020 8:04 PM

I'd love to be saved by Elliot Stabler and or Chris Meloni; alas, I know now I have to save myself.
