Anyone who was around at those times may recall those phone sex lines charged about $2 a minute, if not more. When the bill came, AMC asked him for the money. He denied having made the calls. Since they were all done after the studio hours, he had plausible deniability. Callahan blamed the calls on on one of the janitors. So, AMC fired the janitor, while Callahan kept his job and never had to pay the phone bill.
