I feel Sorry for Roman Polanski
I'm not excusing his behavior, but There are MANY like him or even worse in Hollywood and they are still celebrated.and honored. One example comes to mind, serial child rapist Michael Jackson is still celebrated.
Why the constant public/media lynching of Roman Polanski?? Even his victim told the media and the public to get over it.
I think Roman Polanski should be honored for his body of work before he dies.

I’m sure there are lot of instances of abuse of minors in Hollywood that have not come to light.

"I feel Sorry for Roman Polanski"
It's like Gary Glitter wrote a country song.

Since he left the US he has won 32 film related awards internationally. What are you talking about?

He is a coward who fled the country. He also never apologized or took responsibility for his actions. Thought and probably still thinks it was totally normal and acceptable to drug, rape or have sex with underage girls bc it was a different time and hey, the 70s, everyone was doing it.
He should have made a deal and do his time. Instead he has basically been a fugitive for decades now. I hope his life has been VERY uncomfortable and inconvenient. I do not feel sorry for him at all.

The difference between him and other (rumoured) molesters is that he ADMITTED it OP, and the he escaped justice. What is so hard to understand about that?

OP, you’re joking, right? His work gets accolades and awards all the time. He still gets to make films that fulfil his creative and professional ambitions. He has wealth and a family and children. He doesn’t need your pity, he has enough self-pity to sustain him in his old age.

We know Polanski is guilty since he admitted to it. It's not just a slightly underage girl, it's a 13 year old kid that he drugged and raped.
Instead of facing the consequences he fled the country like a coward, and still enjoyed his career as a well respected director.
He had the cynicism of making "J'accuse", obviously wanting people to draw a parallel between that event and his own life. And some dumbasses did.
I feel terribly sorry for what he went through as a child, living in Krakow's ghetto, and losing both his parents to the Nazis. And for his pregnant wife getting murdered. He had to go through horrible things in his life and I'm sorry for that.
However whatever came from him raping a child was absolutely deserved.

^So he knows a thing or two about horrible childhoods and still proceeded to ruin this girl's childhood and make her life miserable.
I also like to remind everyone that he didn't just fuck her, he anally raped the drugged up 13 year old child.
Evil bastard. Everyone who gives him money to make his movies or awards to honor him is evil too.

[quote]I'm not excusing his behavior,
LOL - yes, you are.
You're engaging in the rankest form of "whataboutism" regarding his behavior. You're attempting to generate sympathy and pity for him. You're suggesting his creative contributions should vastly outweight his actions. You're stating that he's a "victim" that the media and others are out to get. And, of course, you're actually making excuses for his behavior.
So, yes, you are excusing his behavior.

Rock stars in the 70s and probably 80’s regularly raped 14 year old girls. Why no lawsuits? Paid off?

I feel sorry for you, OP, if this is a serious post and at this stage I cannot tell. Comparison of criminal activity as a way to excuse someone is just wrong. This type of thinking is glaringly flawed and only evident in the guilty.

I don’t feel sorry for his actions. He’s had a tough life in some ways, as have most of us who have not raped or molested anyone.
What angers me is that I love his work. He’s very talented and I enjoy watching his movies. I wouldn’t pay to watch them at the movie theater but I do watch and enjoy his work.

[quote]He’s very talented and I enjoy watching his movies.
There are many theories about how artists and writers use their various media to articulate their ideas, premises, and expand on the theme with which they are interested and struggle.
You should consider how his talent may be a byproduct or continuation of whatever is going on in his head, the self-centered and/or self-righteous entitlement that allowed him to execute those very actions for which you "don't feel sorry," and whether his work is a reflection of how he views himself and his place in the world around him.

Considering these other "important things" upon which you have to think, it's wonder that you took the time to read this thread and comment.

R24, why should I feel sorry for HIS actions? He’s the adult who decided to act in certain ways.
Talent and personal behavior are two different things. I can enjoy a Michael Jackson song and still condemn his actions. When I said I don’t feel sorry for his actions, I meant that his life experiences do not excuse his behavior.
I’m sure we’re enjoying the work of many artists today who have done questionable things in their lives.

r29 - did you even bother to read my comment at r24.
No one is suggestion that you feel sorry for his action.
I quoted you "He’s very talented and I enjoy watching his movies" - therefore, one can construe, correctly, that I was opining regarding your stated enjoyment of his talent and movies.
This comment would be that you are potentially enjoying the product of whatever internal emotional and psychological drives he has - the same one which more than likely drove him to the "actions" for which you do not feel sorry for him.
Not all that difficult, so it's a bit surprising that you harp on an irrelevant point.
