I live in the west 50's in Manhattan, my building hasn't had a mail delivery since Friday.
Are you guys still getting mail?
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 25, 2020 4:28 PM |
No one bothers to write any more except for the vulture relatives. They'll get a crisp 5 dollar bill come the Holidays and not even bother to thank me for it. Vermin.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 24, 2020 10:02 PM |
Just hate mail.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 24, 2020 10:05 PM |
I just got a package from the UK.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 24, 2020 10:32 PM |
Mail? Yes.
Male? No.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 24, 2020 10:33 PM |
I don't get anything in the mail except junk that I empty out into the trash periodically. All bills are electronic. Nobody has personally mailed me anything in decades except for 1 sibling who still sends Christmas cards. The only thing useful is election stuff (vote by mail ballot).
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 24, 2020 10:37 PM |
Yes, OP. In NYC. Mostly bills.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 24, 2020 10:38 PM |
In LA we're still getting mail. They better not stop it. Getting my tax refund any day.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 24, 2020 10:40 PM |
Maybe your delivery person went AWOL. Ours sometimes vanishes for a few days. They’re not well-supervised in NYC.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 24, 2020 11:16 PM |
Lol, R8, so true.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 24, 2020 11:17 PM |
[quote]Getting my tax refund any day.
If you'd done direct deposit, you'd have it already.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 24, 2020 11:21 PM |
Yup.
Every day just after 10.30am
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 24, 2020 11:27 PM |
I'm expecting a package from Toronto. How should I go about cleaning it before opening it? Serious question.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 24, 2020 11:36 PM |
wipe it down well, actually, pick it up with and wipe it down well with a clorox or lysol wipe and leave it alone for a few days. I say that because you don't know how many postal workers have touched it the day you got it. I know they say cardboard /paper doesn't hold the virus long but what about the tape and labels?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 24, 2020 11:46 PM |
Still getting mail, but it has slowed down, judging by the dates on the postmarks. The airlines were carrying mail, in addition to travelers, so it makes sense that there is now a slowdown. (Airlines contract with USPS, FedEx, etc.)

R14 Wow. Just wow.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 24, 2020 11:56 PM |
wow what r16? I am handling it like i did anytime I had a dog with ringworm. ie, take no chances, i don't care if it looks stupid. better looking stupid than dead.

My neighborhood in Boston is shut down but we’re getting mail daily.
Today was trash and recycling day. I had to disinfect my emptied bins out on the street before touching them to haul them in. The sanitation workers were geared up but they had touched hundreds of bins which were touched by hundreds of residents. I have old tenants I don’t want to kill them so I was extra 😍
R14, R16: proper handling of mail is actually important especially in the hot spots. Put gloves on, open your mail, recycle the envelopes. Remove gloves. Read your mail. File it. Wash your hands. That’s what my sis-in-law, a nurse has been instructed to do by her hospital.
Information on paper bags or cardboard is all over the place. People want good info especially with the take-out push by desperate restaurants but there hasn’t been time to conduct studies on take-out transmission so assume the food is safe but the packaging poses a risk. Remove it. Dispose of it. Wash your hands for 20 seconds and enjoy your food.
CV19 exploded in the US because it’s easily transmissible and we had derelict leadership in the White House. Protect yourself and don’t think this is being overblown. Please.

The hysterics you and 'rescue-chick' are embroiled in are... hysterical. To any normal person.
But yes, wear a hazmat suit to fetch the mail, spray it with industrial grade disinfectant and leave the package in an airtight decontamination chamber for a few days just to be safe.
You people are /ridiculous/ and unfortunately this pandemic won't result in your culling.

r19 Do what you will. My sincere hope is if you do catch it, then you isolate yourself, fully recover, stop shedding the viral contagions and become immune.
Otherwise your ignorance could quite possibly kill someone.
Stay well. Despite your anti-social lack of empathy, I hope you get through this safely.

OP- I live on West 55th Street. No mail at all. Not junk mail, not anything. I hadn't checked in awhile either. Not sure why they're not delivering. Aren't they required to?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 25, 2020 12:56 AM |
R20 I've already had it. You probably have as well.
You can save the pious "I'm praying for you," schtick. True empathy is telling someone when they're wrong even when they've emotionally convinced themselves they're reacting rationally. You're wrong. Your emotions are clouding your basic common sense. The mail, the tape, the label isn't going to contaminate you. Someone coughing into your open mouth is, and you should have spent a good part of your childhood and your full adulthood knowing how to navigate these scenarios. Wear gloves and a mask outside if it makes you feel better. Wash your hands.
Here's one of my favorite social contagion stories I'm revisiting to pass the time while I recover from a lingering sore throat and fatigue. I hope it brings you some amusement. Be well.

I’m going to stop my mail any day now. It’s like someone stuffing mangey Chinese bats 🦇 into the mail slot! - FOR ALL I KNOW!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 25, 2020 1:16 AM |
I'm in the West 50's too OP and I've been getting mail. It's all junk that goes in the trash though.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 25, 2020 1:22 AM |
USPS is still working.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 25, 2020 1:25 AM |
In SF no disruption in mail service, coming every day. Packages have tripled in volume.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 25, 2020 1:25 AM |
Radio City Station post office is the worst, OP. I can't tell you how many times I have had to "go postal" due to their laziness. We would get better service from carrier pigeons! The mail carriers spend more time yapping on their phones than delivering the mail.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 25, 2020 2:04 AM |
It’s like I avoid as much contact as I can all day. And then someone, by accident, shoves paper COVERED in pangolin feces into my mail slot. FOR ALL I KNOW!!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 25, 2020 2:09 AM |
The story I read said it was bats.

I just microwave it all.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 25, 2020 2:39 AM |
Speaking of bats, some of the people on these Coronavirus threads have bats in the belfry, so to speak.

East Side here, and yes we have received regular mail delivery as usual. Mind you it varies by day; sometimes we don't get delivery until 7PM or a bit later.

R19 WW! An island of sanity in a maelstrom of PANIC!! See R14 R20 for details.

Thankfully, I still get mail. My company requires all maintenance prescription drugs to be handled through mail order. I did get a package from China last week, and I picked it up with plastic gloves and left it on the living room floor for a week before I: got around to opening it. With most other mail, I carefully open the envelopes with a knife and extract the contents The envelopes go in the recycling bin, but I know the contents had been inserted by a machine. I only treated that one package from China differently, since I had just read an article that said that the virus went from China to Italy because the Italian fashion houses depended on Chinese labor to sew most of their clothing, and the virus could survive several days on fabrics. I didn't remember what I had ordered (a sweater) so it wasn't really distracting me.

OP the Radio City post office has been closed for the past few days. There’s a sign that says they are working to resolve the problem, but it doesn’t say what the problem is.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 25, 2020 9:36 AM |
R13 I received a CanadaPost Expedited Parcel from Caledon, ON the other day. I wiped down the exterior with a disinfectant wipe. If it had appeared to have been opened at Customs, I'd have wiped the contents, too.

R1
No one bothers sending thank you notes anymore, I don't know what things are coming to.....
Complained to Mama about despite having given a young nephew and his new wife several very nice gifts over past few months as they set up housekeeping, haven't heard a peep. Not even an email. That's gratitude for you.
Yes, one knows it is bad manners to wait around to be thanked for doing good deeds, but one does like a bit of something now and then.
Next time am clearing out valuables from my home they are going to local thrift shop. They are always happy to receive and do send nice notes later on thanking me for kind donations.

I put all my mail in a tub full of bleach for 3 whole days before I open it.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 25, 2020 12:51 PM |
I do that with my rentboys.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 25, 2020 2:57 PM |
R41 you made me laugh out loud!
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 25, 2020 4:16 PM |
My guess is that a lot of mail people are like “screw this!” and either quitting or taking sick/vacation days.
