Are we sure it wasn’t because of Tyne Daly’s Maria Callas?

He gave us great plays and great male nudity.

This is because the republican administration decided to tell everyone all is well while they boarded supplies and dropped their stock.
Everyone who dies should get justice.

His book for Ragtime was a masterpiece. Love his plays so much. A very kind man. He will be missed.

R18 Wrong time.

He could have written more plays that generated revenue for Broadway! Now he's dead, asshole Trump!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 24, 2020 7:23 PM |
This is very sad. He was a national treasure. And, despite his health issues he was still writing plays.
This is why it is infuriating when people are so cavalier about the virus, or going out to socialize, or “it’s just going to kill some boomers.”
Real disease. Real people. Real consequences. Condolences for his husband .
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 24, 2020 7:28 PM |
And McNally wasn't a boomer. He was the generation prior to that.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 24, 2020 7:33 PM |
Well, that sucks.
Does this make him the most famous or highest profile person to have died so far?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 24, 2020 7:36 PM |
R26 I believe so
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 24, 2020 7:37 PM |
So young and no underlying conditions. RIP dude.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 24, 2020 7:38 PM |
Very sad, but not surprising. NYC is a Corona hotspot, and McNally was a super-high-risk case: 81 years old, lung cancer survivor (so probably decades-long smoker) and with COPD. Honestly, the flu or a common cold could easily have done him in.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 24, 2020 7:39 PM |
My God. I fear he'll be the first of many - and there were no rumors or announcements about him either.
Along those lines......where is Giuliani?

Nothing from Rita yet. What about Chita?
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 24, 2020 7:41 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 24, 2020 7:41 PM |
[quote] And McNally wasn't a boomer. He was the generation prior to that.
True, though I didn’t say he was. I was referencing the supposedly “clever,” but really stupid and inaccurate little memes that it is only boomers (as a shorthand for “old people”) who are going to die from the virus.

poor thing, hadn't realized he was ill
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 24, 2020 7:47 PM |
Oh, this is so terribly sad. A wonderful playwright who was equally at home in plays as he was in musicals.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 24, 2020 7:49 PM |
Don’t worry - he’s gonna have the best ever re-erection - he’ll be up and at ‘em by Easter!

Mona Foot, Lucia Bose, Terrence McNally.
That's the 3 (showbiz celebs) for today.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 24, 2020 8:26 PM |
r31, most people who get lung cancer are nit smokers. In fact, the rates of lung cancer have risen even as the numbers of smokers have plummeted. Smokers tend to, in general, engage in more risk-taking behaviours than non-smokers, which leads to higher rates of mouth and throat infections from oral sex.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 24, 2020 8:34 PM |
R43, that is a load of horse shit:
“In the United States, cigarette smoking is linked to about 80% to 90% of lung cancer deaths. ... People who smoke cigarettes are 15 to 30 times more likely to get lung cancer or die from lung cancer than people who do not smoke. Even smoking a few cigarettes a day or smoking occasionally increases the risk of lung cancer.”
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 24, 2020 8:37 PM |
There will be a Crisco Oil party tonight in his honor. Room 419. Pass it on. Bring Joey. Don't bring Chuck.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 24, 2020 8:39 PM |
[quote] He died in Sarasota Florida, you freaking dumbass.
Yes, but he and his husband just went there about a week ago or so, so it's likely McNally contracted it before he left for Florida or while traveling. What does it matter, anyway? The man is dead and Trump and McConnell still draw breath

You can't entirely blame people for mispronouncing "Valour!"
McNally opted for the British spelling of the word for the title of his American play. The confusion starts squarely with Terrence McNally. The rest of us just had to deal with it.

Did he ever explain why he went for the Brit spelling of "Valour" instead of "valor" in his title? Is it because the characters are so pretentious?
by Anonymous | reply 80 | March 26, 2020 1:59 AM |
I read that "valour" got a "u" because James and John were British. Kind of random if it's true.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | March 26, 2020 2:10 AM |
R80, because that is the way it is spelled in the original poem from which the title is derived.

Just watched 'Terrence McNally: Every Act of Life' for the first time, don't really know much about him so I thought I'd start somewhere. They lauded him as being a great playwright and a very important figure to gay history. The theme throughout the doc was the importance of being out and proud. During the AIDS epidemic his famous ex-lover was dying but never made it public or wanted anyone to know that he was gay. McNally, supposedly being out at that time, took this opportunity to emphasize the importance of coming out and being proud of who you are the next minute we're hearing about him fucking his fag hag while his ex-lover and every other gay man around him was dying. Seriously WTF?? Put me off I didn't bother to finish the doc. Looked it up to see if it was actually true, yes for three years he went back into the closet (voluntarily, apparently) with that fat hideous creature, and his only concern about it was the fat frau didn't keep it a secret LOL. He chalked it up to as being "one of the surprises of life" he also shames gay men for staying closeted and said something like gay men staying closeted nowadays is their fault and not society's problem. (Eye roll) I just can't with this dumb dead bitch. I don't have the patience for it anymore. Sorry for rant.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | November 1, 2020 11:30 PM |
I'm sorry he couldn't be the 110% gold star homosexual you needed him to be, #94.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | November 1, 2020 11:45 PM |
I didn't watch any of his plays either. He seems like a lot of mediocre American writers, nobody really knows who he is so they probably wanted to sell on his sexuality to give the documentary a boost.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | November 1, 2020 11:46 PM |
R95, not even the issue, and he's likely bi since he chose to fuck a fat cunt for 3 years, while his lover was dying and kept it all a secret.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | November 1, 2020 11:52 PM |
R96, right. His plays aren't remotely interesting nor ground-breaking, guess they were relying on his same sex appeal to make it interesting.
