You?
I'm taking my temperature 8-9 times a day at this point
by Anonymous | reply 65 | April 2, 2020 11:44 PM |
Lucky you - there are no thermometers for sale ANYWHERE right now. I don't have one where I'm currently living.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 24, 2020 6:01 PM |
Rectally?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 24, 2020 6:01 PM |
Op that is overkill - you only need to check your temperature when you start feeling like you have a fever
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 24, 2020 6:02 PM |
Just about once per day. I learned the hard way not to do it after eating -- your temp can go up by several degrees as your metabolism revs up to digest a meal -- I had forgotten that and got a temp of 99.8 once. Nearly shat myself!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 24, 2020 6:03 PM |
This is the kind of stupid that led people to hoard toilet paper.
A person's temperature fluctuates throughout the day. It's one thing if you are actually sick and monitoring changes is necessary to modify treatment.
But, just taking your temperature is not only a waste of time and effort, but likely to provide misleading results, given the natural fluctuations that occur.

Get it together, Mary. You're a mess.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 24, 2020 6:05 PM |
Once in the morning and once before I go to bed. Temp fluctuates between 96.9 and 97.7.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 24, 2020 6:13 PM |
OMG - me too but nto 8 times a day. I'm also feeling a tad under the weather today...
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 24, 2020 6:15 PM |
I’m tempted. I’m dizzy today and felt it coming on yesterday. I am hoping that I just need to clean my humidifier. That has made me dizzy in earlier years and I am due to clean it, so I’m hoping it’s just that. If that’s not it, then I’m a goner.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 24, 2020 6:20 PM |
I took my pulse today. Seems normal.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 24, 2020 6:25 PM |
I had my temperature taken a few days ago at my doctor's office, and again on Saturday and yesterday by my physical therapist. At this point, if you need to take my temperature, you'll need to give me a minute to turn around and bend over, and kiss it while you're at it.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 24, 2020 6:27 PM |
Twice a day--once in the morning, once at night.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 24, 2020 6:30 PM |
I was wondering about the power of suggestion. OP, you're going to give yourself a psychosomatic illness. Stop all that unless you actually feel sick.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 24, 2020 6:41 PM |
I'm doing it twice daily. Morning and just before bedtime. I have always had a temperature on the low scale. Most people don't realize the 98.6 number is not set in stone for everyone. Doctors now say that normal can be anything from 97.0-99.0. I usually run 971-97.6. I was 97.1 this morning. 3 days ago I was actually 98.6.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 24, 2020 7:07 PM |
OP is a bottom
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 24, 2020 7:14 PM |
OP is also a raging hypochondriac.

Could you please give us more detail? We want to hear more about your other temperature self-findings this week.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 24, 2020 7:30 PM |
I've been measuring my temperature at least three times a day. I got the last thermometer at the Kroger. I've discovered that my temp is usually in the 97 range. This is below 98.6 and I started to wonder why am I below normal and discovered that 98.6 is not necessarily the normal temp for everyone. The stuff you learn in these strange days.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 24, 2020 7:36 PM |
OP, I fear you have the virus.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 24, 2020 7:38 PM |
No. I don't have a thermometer. Temperature was checked last week at the Dr's office when I went in for high blood pressure. Had a head cold but no fever.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 24, 2020 7:39 PM |
I was running a mild fever (99°-100°)...I'm usually subnormal (98°)...for almost 3 weeks. I checked 3 times a day, now just daily. No need to obsess.
R17, temps vary a bit during the day. It's what's higher than normal for you, overall.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 24, 2020 7:39 PM |
Not to worry, OP! At this rate you'll have a fatal stroke long before you get the coronavirus!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 24, 2020 7:45 PM |
I'm with you OP. I'm checking that little beeping monster constantly.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 24, 2020 7:47 PM |
no, OP. I'm just staying inside, like you should, you turd
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 24, 2020 7:51 PM |
Why is everyone taking their temp if they don’t feel like they have a fever? It’s usually pretty darn easy to tell if you think you’re running a fever.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 24, 2020 7:51 PM |
Typhoid MARY!!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 24, 2020 8:02 PM |
I take mine 2-3 times a day. I was able to get a Kinsa smart thermometer at Target before everyone panicked and hoarded everything, so I can track any symptoms too. I have had a runny nose for more than a week and am 99.1 right now, most likely allergies but sometimes I feel run down so I like the peace of mind.
I also bought a pulse oximeter because I have a touch of the hypochondria. So far, so good.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 24, 2020 8:04 PM |
Okay, don't laugh or snicker but go to a pet store. A large well stocked one. They may carry thermometers in the health and care section. Mine didn't have any. So I went to the fish section and there were plenty of fish tank thermometers. The old fashion analog glass ones and suction-cups to the tank. Mine isn't mercury based but instead uses alcohol so it's safe if you drop it.
It's uncomfortable to use in my mouth so I check under my armpit. It also takes awhile, I leave it there and cross my arm across my chest and read DL for 8-10 minutes. Obviously not going to get a precise reading but I've been using it for a week now and everyday I'm between the 96-98 marks, usually just a smidge above 96. Maybe the temp reading itself isn't exact but it gives me a baseline to compare to any changes.
That's my makeshift solution for $3.50.
98.6F is the average for oral readings. Under the arm is usually 1 degree less and rectally, 1 degree more.

by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 24, 2020 8:16 PM |
OP, you’re obsessive, tedious, and neurotic. You must be a joy to live with. NOT! Take it once a day, if you must, like a multivitamin.
Thank you R26, for the sanity check.

Yes. I’m in London. Spoke to my GP who is also self isolating as his kids have it and he thinks I have it. Started two weeks ago with a massive headache, fever and projectile vomiting ( sorry TMI) then I started to feel better for a few days with no fever or nausea or anything but chills and aches. Yesterday the heavy chest feeling started along with a minor cough and the fever creeped up a bit again. But no tests in London unless one is in the emergency. I’m fine. Have been using Tylenol and lots of water and C. I feel like an ass as I sanitize everything and have for weeks, wash hands, use some protective clothing if I have to go to the market. Only way could have been the mail or Amazon. Grr. This thing is weird in that some have severe symptoms and others is like the mild flu. I don’t think we really know much about it yet. Keep taking your temp but pay attention to other symptoms. If it at all feels like an odd flu or the symptoms don’t make sense then it could be Covid. He also said that many are presenting without a fever who are testing positive with other symptoms.

Not taking my temperature. I feel well and am isolated. If I feel ill then I will take it.
A friend has to answer four health related questions and have his temp taken before entering the building. There is medical staff on hand, he works in law enforcement but not on the streets.

I recently learned that my former employer just had an employee test positive for the virus.
I assessed the situation there, and I understood that unless they closed, someone would eventually become infected with it.
Last week, I was told by a former coworker that they were “considering” shutting down operations, which to me means: “We will work you to your literal death”. So I made the decision several weeks back, to get the fuck out.
Well, lo & behold! This morning, they allegedly had nurses lined up at the security gate, insisting that every employee had to have their temperature taken, before being admitted into the building.
Things got VERY hairy, when several employees started demanding why they were taking temperatures? And the RNs and staff would not give them a straight answer.
One of the guys who was waiting in line, received a text from a friend, saying that “Robert” (not his real name), was in the ICU, because he has the virus.
The guy who got the text, screamed out, “Fuck NO! You bitches ain’t looking after us by taking our temperatures! Robert is laid up in the ICU with the mother fucking virus! Ah, hell nah! You bitches tryin’ to get us sick, too!”
Welp, according to my former co-worker/friend, people got HEATED, and walked right back to their cars, and GTFOT.
The HR asshole who was standing there with the nurses, started threatening the employees, telling them that if they walk off the job, he will not approve their unemployment claims. Some guy got in his face, told him to go fuck him self.
I was smart to get deliberately fired. I knew that this was the EXACT scenario that would unfold, & it did.
Fucking greedy pieces of shit.

by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 24, 2020 8:27 PM |
R33, thanks for sharing. Glad to hear you are recovering.
I'm R29 and the reason I'm monitoring my temp is because I have had a headache for over a week. I'm pretty sure it's my sinuses dealing with spring and all the cleaning sprays I'm now using. I wanted peace of mind and checking for a fever seemed the best way to waylay fears.
Slight concern is that I'm taking an antihistamine and still, my head is throbbing today.

I have an instant read cooking thermometer that works for taking my temp too. So there we are.

Felt hot in the face last night and took mine and it was 99.2. Took 2 Extra Strength Tylenol and it dropped 2 degrees to 97.2. A nurse in my doc's practice told me to call 911 if I have a temp of 101 or higher AND difficulty breathing.

You can still order off Amazon. They have them, but make sure it has reviews. But no cheap ones anymore. Some for $11. Most are thermometers to test fertility for getting pregnancy, but who cares.

Thank you, r14. I've always run a bit high and everytime I go to the doctor, I have to remind them, "I usually run a bit higher than normal." I've known this since I was a kid in that everytime I went to the doctor, I was never "normal".

OP here! Helloooo! Here's the deal; I am in my 50's, am looking after an elderly person in his 90's and a special needs person in her 50's. Through January I had a long drawn out cold, and had to travel for work, putting me in a west coast hotel for a week 'favoured by travellers from the Pacific Rim' (I'll let you guess). Another cold arrives 2 weeks ago, starts with 2 days of dry cough (but no fever). That cough broke in to a full on cold (#2 for the season- scary enough!). On my way out of the cold but under the circumstances, I am worried and since I have a cough, so I am watching for a temperature spike. a symptom of CV. I have been out running around stocking the fridges for these two individuals for the last few weeks as well. So it's all rational.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 25, 2020 12:00 AM |
R51, no worries. I bought sinus medicine instead. Even checked with the pharmacist that it would not kill me if I mixed it with Allegra.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 25, 2020 3:47 AM |
Remember on important thing about thermometers. Each thermometer is calibrated to take temperatures from a certain spot on the body. You should not use a thermometer calibrated to be used in the mouth under the arm or anywhere else, and vice versa. You will not get a correct reading
by Anonymous | reply 56 | March 25, 2020 5:09 PM |
I take my temperature first thing every morning. I'm a cold bitch - 96.4 this morning - which is typical for me.

Got the scare of my life this morning. Took my temperature right after eating breakfast. Came back with a 102.9° reading. it takes me a good hour first thing in the am to get my brain fully operational and I just wasn't thinking straight. I had just finished breakfast which included a fried egg, toasted English muffin, and a hot cup of coffee. LOL

by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 26, 2020 8:07 PM |
I take it because the thermometer is there in its case in the basket on the table. While I wait for the kettle, I fall into a routine: tidy up, ready my coffee mug, sweep the kitchen floor, grouse about dishes in the sink, wash them up; wander over to the table--oh a thermometer? Well I'll just, while I'm here...
