Don't forget the popcorn! Drive-in movie theaters make a coronavirus comeback

What are your drive-in memories?

I liked getting there early and driving over all the rows of pavement ridges and valleys of pavement that had been poured to give parked cars and upward view of the screen.

I've never been to a drive in theater but I would like to do that one day. It would be nice to watch a movie without hearing people talk and without hearing cell phone notifications and without hearing fat pigs stuffing their gullets and smacking their flabby lips. The sound of the movie must be bad, however. I've seen pictures of those speakers you hang on your car window and they do not look like they would sound any better than an old AM radio. I don't think there are any drive in movies around here.

LA County is shutting them down. (Along with hair and nail salons.)

There is one near me but still at least a 40 minute drive. Love the idea of them making a comeback.

LA county still has drive-in theaters? Is this 1975?

[quote]The sound of the movie must be bad, however.

What drive-ins there are these days broadcast the audio over a short range FM transmitter. You tune your car radio to the corresponding frequency and get it that way.

Don't have any because i've never been to one. I think there's only one left in Sydney.

I loved Dusk to Dawn sessions.

I have great memories of them. In HS, a bunch of us would all pile into a car with coolers full of beer and do bong hits. God, we were stupid but being under-aged and drinking beer wasn't that big a deal then. More than likely, the cops would confiscate the beer and say "you kids get your asses home".

r5 Thanks for that info. I didn't know the sound could be sent to your automobile stereo.

How are the white trash who bring their lawn furniture to sit outside the car supposed to hear?

by Anonymousreply 10March 23, 2020 2:27 PM

Portable radios, r10.

I recall the old Rustic drive in in North Smithfield, Ri. switched to porn for many years and finally converted to 1st and 2nd run stuff.

I’d never heard of a porno drive in until I went to Texas a few years ago.

Weird.

I loved drive-in movies as a kid. My parents would put us in our jammies and we'd go to the show. This was when they still had speakers you attached to a rolled-down window. I remember seeing [italic]the Pink Panther[/italic] at the drive-in.
