Yesterday I bought a pan of cinnamon rolls and I scraped off and ate the cream cheese frosting. Today I will heat and eat the rolls.
What have you been doing?

Not much, watching too much tv.
I just set Mame to record today on TCM for those of you keeping up with that sort of thing.

Jet lag. Have had it for a week.

Eating too much and hitting up all the streaming platforms for stuff I've been meaning to watch.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 22, 2020 12:35 PM |
Stress cooking. Which is neither entirely good nor entirely bad.
But stay off eBay, for sure. No good can come of opening eBay during a lock down. I did and I ended up buying a cook book. (See above. Par. 1.)

I started watering the houseplants (I have a lot), met with a physical therapist for an evaluation, then went to the Post Office to pick up my mail and to the grocery to stock up a bit. I had some coffee and a piece of chess pie for dinner, and cooked up a pound of chicken livers.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 22, 2020 12:55 PM |
OP, be careful not to OVERDO.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 22, 2020 12:57 PM |
R6, I find chess pie too gamey. It's not for me, thanks.

I made a servicable banana bread out of a banana, stevia, baking soda, water and crushed Datrex 3600 survival bars, which consist of heat treated flour, shortening and sugar. The survival bars are years beyond expiry. My Kroger is pretty stripped at the moment.

Watching Bradbucks and Sam Cushing on IG.

Stress cooking. Watching movies. Working. Reading. Drinking a bit too much wine. I’m shaking up my whole routine next week however. Back to 60 minutes of exercise a day and watching what I eat. I was getting into killer shape before this shit started ...gotta keep going. And thanks to the queen who posted Chris Cuomo’s Instagram feed! He’s been uploading great at home workout routines and his bouncy VPL is a thing to behold!

Yesterday I took my Harley for a long ride in the country. I haven't ridden it for about two weeks, and I thought I probably should ride now before or in case of some kind of lockdown. It was a beautiful day here in the Ocala Forest, flowers are blooming and most places I rode smelled wonderful. Then I stopped at the dollar store for a gallon of milk for my bran cereal this morning.
Today? TV and (perhaps) some yard work.

Sick from allergies/asthma - not Covid. Sleeping more. Drinking more wine than usual. Annoying my cat by my constant presence. Making my dog happy by my constant presence.
I don't cook much but am eating a lot of pasta and rice (rice in pouches from Seeds of Change, so good). I find that putting a nice bit of Earth Made (vegetarian butter) makes everything taste better.

I've been noodling through a series of recipes from Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." Julia spared no step, no complexity. Our typically busy days leave no time for these recipes. But now we have some time.
By the end of the recipe, the attention to detail really pays off. You learn a lot about cooking by submitting to her detailed methods. Having done some of them, I've noticed small simplifications I would make if I again prepare particular dishes. That takes nothing from Julia. And if that keeps me exploring this great book, it's a good trade.

I'm in my cabin on an island in the PNW, doing all of my favorite things, every day: cooking, baking, having wood fires in the morning or evening when it's cooler, backwoods hikes and beach walks with my dog, foraging for clams, oysters, and mussels, buying eggs and produce from local farm stands. Sleep with a window open to hear the water, the wind in the evergreens and, sometimes, rain. I'm a work-from-home introvert, so this is paradise for me.
