The Clampetts could teach the Trumps a thing or two about class...

moral of the story: people don't change.
unfortunately, social science does not agree with that morality show.

Ellie Mae loved her varmints: she shore wasn't turnin 'em into vittles.

Four? What about Jethrine? What about Pearl?

They were happy because they were blithe, uneducated bumpkins. They had no idea how the world works, that people liked them because of their money, and that some were trying to get their money.

R5 Fool's paradox: the fool blindly stumbles through life, unaware of danger but somehow avoiding it.
while the more intelligent and wary have illfated & unluckly things repeatedly happening to them, no matter how vigilant they are nor how carefully they plan.

Dreadful hillbillies

Granny was not happy OP, and Jed was shallow social climber who moved to Beverly Hills so Jethro and Ellie May could find suitable partners among the wealthy. Jed thought nothing of blackmailing Mr. Drysdale and Miss Hathaway into performing personal services in a kind of virtual slavery.

All I know is Elly May got to have some of that fine Dash Riprock dick and I was jealous about it.

Granny was hothead happy, always itchin' for a fight.

Of the four principal characters, only Jethro was probably happier in Beverly Hills. Granny always wanted to return home. Elly Mae would have probably been happier back home, closer to nature and her beloved critters.
In real life, such characters would have probably been more content overall by remaining home and merely enjoying a higher standard of living now possible with Jed's wealth rather than uprooting themselves and trying to fit in where they are outcasts, only welcome by those who seek to take advantage.

I could never understand why Drysdale kept such a tight rein on them. There are a lot of mountians in California, near LA for Jed to hunt in.
The real problem why the hillbillies weren't "happy" was because they had no friends. That was unrealistic. The family would be bombarded with people. OK most would be fake friends, but they even had episodes on how Jed knew that.
And as for Miss Jane, she was so educated, why would she work for miserly Drysdale? And you'd think the hillbillies would slap a few million her way.

Who needs puny Dash Riprock when hunky strong Jethro is around?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 22, 2020 2:53 PM |
Why did Jethro have a different name than Jed. Was he a nephew?
