I had no idea the governor of Kentucky was a Democrat. And not just a Democrat, a pretty left-wing one at that. He is very pro-gay and when he was attorney general, 60% of his staff was minorities and women. Apparently, his response to the Coronavirus has been very swift compared to, say, Tennessee, resulting in less chaos (so far). What else do we know about him?
Also, for a politician, he is handsome.

He's the bluegrass version of Gavin.

Not a fan of Gavin. Actually, R2, he ruined SF because of his overly overly overly progressive views with the homeless. Now there are masses shitting on every corner!

their
so that stupid bitch grammar queen won't feel the need to jump in. And, bitch, you really need to give it a rest!!!

I voted for him! I was ecstatic when he squeaked in a win. The fuckface incumbent Republican governor dragged his feet for days before conceding.

R5, Andy won by a tiny margin right? Like .5%? I'm glad there are Democratic governors in states that are Republican dominated.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 22, 2020 12:41 AM |
R6 Yes, something like that, it was close. Bevin the incumbent was threatening a recount but eventually let it go.
And yes, this state takes licks for being backwaters and hickish (most of which are deserved) but it was nice to see that in a gubernatorial election there were enough decent people to counteract the assholes.

R7, we need more Democrats in red states, even if they are conservative. What is the best city in Kentucky btw?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 22, 2020 12:52 AM |
His father was a popular long-time politician in the state so I’d say he is more of a Trudeau than a Newsom.

Many are the memes that his leadership has inspired.

Louisville is more progressive, Lexington is all racetracks, traditions, pretty horse farms and old Kentucky families (some with money, some without).

My best friend knows him and says he's the real deal: smart, capable, honest (as much as a politician can be). He was lucky to get elected because his opponent was so ridiculously Trump-like that even Trump loving Kentuckians couldn't stand him. Now he has to prove himself as a capable leader to get re-elected. And so far, he's doing it.

Isn't Kentucky where the creation museum is as well as that fucking ark?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 22, 2020 1:24 AM |
R13, holy shit. I just looked it up and out of like 8000 reviews, it has 4.5 stars on google. I wonder how many are real though?

I hope he's a rising star and that we see him moving up in the future.

Wasnt he the one who took a picture with some drag queens, got raked over the coals with conservatives, and then defended the drag queens over the stupid criticism?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 22, 2020 1:54 AM |
Kentucky is actually more Republican than ever. In last year's election, Republicans won all state wide offices, except governor and that was only because Bevin was hated so much. Even than, he barely lost.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 22, 2020 3:11 AM |
Bevin did something illegal right? Like blatantly illegal and still almost won?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 23, 2020 1:52 PM |
Let's hope they don't find him in a hotel room on his knees with a coke straw up his nose and a black dick up his ass.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 23, 2020 1:59 PM |
Can he do anything to hamstring McConnell?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 23, 2020 1:59 PM |
R18, actually, he closed down a very successful medical website/exchange that was started under Obamacare.

Idk about anything illegal but Bevin was simply an asshole. I actually volunteered on his campaign for a hot second, a laps in my judgement, and I knew Bevin on a social basis. He was a firebrand, but one-on-one he was nice whenever we chatted. I left KY soon after he was elected and had to watch in horror as he allowed his worst qualities come to light. Kentuckians know that their state gets a very bad wrap and they aren't fond of being called stupid and uneducated. When he attacked the teachers people were rather upset because these are people are a major part of the local communities and rathe respected. When his hardline stance lead to a shutdown Bevin said something about children being sexually abused around KY, it's the teachers' fault that those kids are at home right now suffering that abuse. Naturally, people flipped their shit after that comment. Bevin, being Bevin, somewhat doubles down when called out.
Andy's daddy was, as other's said, a really good governor. The KY Democratic Party is naturally a small organization. You can't help but know all of the power players. I've met his father and I've met Andy. Both are great, but Andy speaks like a politician while his father has more of that good old boy touch. I think this disaster may help Andy sound a little less rehearsed. He's given a number of impressive press conferences as of late. He won the gubernatorial seat as a referendum on Bevin not so much love for him. He's putting in the work during this crisis by conducting daily press briefings at 5pm to keep his state informed.

by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 23, 2020 3:39 PM |
Beshear tells Kentuckians not to go to Tennessee, because the governor hasn't done shit to protect his citizens. He's a Republican, of course.
