Is it bad to drive back and forth between homes?
We live in a small city and have a modest home in the country, just less than an hour away, door to door. We're confining ourselves dutifully, but we're driving back and forth a bit to enjoy a change of environment. We don't stop except for gasoline, and take precautions when doing that. Otherwise, we drive door to door and only stay on our properties.
Is this risky or irresponsible under the current circumstances, do you think?

No. There’s no risk to yourself or others if you are inside your own car.

Your significant other should be sitting in the back seat on the right, assuming you're not in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Cyprus, Malta, Japan, Ireland and a couple of other countries in which case it's reversed.
Otherwise you're not maintaining social distancing inside the car. Best to crack the windows rather than rely on the a/c or heat, too.

The only major risk is that you'll get into an accident & end up in a hospital emergency room that's a literal hot zone. It's the same risk you'd face if you went somewhere like the Florida Everglades, went ATV'ing out in the desert, or some similar activity that's mostly solitary (or at least, doesn't involve much direct close contact with random strangers). If you do something that lands you in a hospital, you're basically fucked at this point.

I'm doing the same thing, the bf is staying alone at our place for 5 days while I'm in the retirement condo I bought for my parents and they're still in their single family home until its sale closes.

You need to sell the country home and give the proceeds to the poor.

How much toilet paper do you have any to these homes? Are you the person that bought it all up? There’s nothing in the stores so I think it must be you.

The fact that your country house is modest signals you’re already socially distant.

For some reason this is now forbidden in many European nations.

is it bad? it's wasteful of gas simply because you're too bored to sit in one house together for a few weeks.
regardless of how it is priced, gas is a precious resource.

We're staying put in Sagaponack but for variety we spend the weekend in the modest gardener's cottage - a 15 minute walk from the main house.

How do you know it’s a gas powered vehicle? The humble braggart could have a fucking Tesla.

My husband and I are going absolutely bonkers and will be heading over to our country house as well.
I urge you all to do the same.

R6 is right.
Further, even if it were true, what the fuck is wrong with people that they can't fucking stay in? STAY THE FUCK INSIDE.

The fear is going back into the city - and being stuck in a quarantine. I would rather be in the country when things get locked down,
