We never seem to learn from our mistakes repeating the same patterns over and over, we instinctually resort to violent tribalism against anyone who isn't "one of us", we seek out leaders driven only by their own desire for wealth and power and we destroy our own habitat for temporary gain when we know the long term affects that behavior may very well doom us as a species so do you think there is any hope for us?
Do you think humans are inherently bad?

Yes! End of thread!

Humans are the worst.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 20, 2020 11:12 PM |
I think it's more that we're inherently stupid...
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 20, 2020 11:14 PM |
That's Biblical truth. Man is inherently evil, and it's only God keeping us from destroying each other. That's why Communism is so silly, trying to perfect man without the Spirit of God. We've seen the result in China, Eastern Europe, Stalin, Mao, etc.

No, humans are, however, inherently lazy and stupid. Some are inherently bad people, but many of them, at least in America, are just dumb and lazy.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 20, 2020 11:18 PM |
Well, the white trash Republicans we have running the show are definitely inherently evil.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 20, 2020 11:20 PM |
Yes.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 20, 2020 11:21 PM |
I consider myself to be a pretty good judge of people... that's why I don't like any of them.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 20, 2020 11:23 PM |
Yes. Other animals do not destroy the planet. Humans are sick.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 20, 2020 11:25 PM |
Just look at white society in America since before it's inception. They are the worst.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 20, 2020 11:28 PM |
WE?!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 20, 2020 11:35 PM |
Inherently selfish while exhibiting both bad and good behaviors.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 20, 2020 11:39 PM |
Other animals don't have the capability r11.
All life is inherently selfish. Humans aren't special, we just sometimes like to kid ourselves that we are more evolved, but the base uncivilized nature can always be seen.

Yes. I think there are a few that somehow have goodness in them and act on it, but for the most part people are born bad and stay bad. Some don't act on it by fighting their natural instinct or fear of the law, very, very few fear of things like going to hell, but for the most part the worst of the worst are the religious ones and I'm talking about every religion but for the part right wing conservative Christians who have caused most of the suffering the world has ever known.

What r6 said.
If more people learned to think for themselves and learned critical rational thinking we'd be better off. Most people are too easily brainwashed by propaganda.
There is a reason the government wanted to derail the educational system.

I refuse to believe that all people are bad. In my experience, I don't think that's true at all, but there are some truly awful, evil, and stupid people on this earth. I've discovered that every evil act can be linked to self-preservation. People kill to ether right something they believe is wrong or because it gives them a thrill - both are selfish. Selfishness is truly the root of all evil if you ask me. We need to start teaching empathy more. It's the most important life skill to have.

No, I think the vast majority do care about each other and can demonstrate acts of kindness.. Unfortunately, as life happens, we lose patience and are not as nice as we should be.

No. I don’t think there’s objective bad or good.
Human beings are social animals. We work in self-interest primarily, and in social interest to support that.
Reproductive behaviors and protecting young are first priorities. Survival second, sometimes beating out reproductive activities for first, depending on context.
After that, meeting needs and establishing safety and comfort. Most people are “good” within our families and our immediate communities (work, school, neighborhoods) because it serves our interests to know and trust people and to be known and trusted. It makes us feel good because it supports our base animal instincts. The golden rules applies especially to those we know and for most of us to those we don’t know, because it works with those we know.
When people come from circumstances in which there is no “justice”—where living according to the golden rule doesn’t pay off—those people become “bad” because they are conditioned to meet their own needs without anyone else’s support. So they take, and they exploit, and they sometimes harm and they move on.
Even good and bad are objectively relative. Most people, just like most animals and plants and other living creatures, develop ways of being that meet their opportunistic needs in the circumstances they are given. It’s that simple.
I am a golden-rule person. I either behave toward others how I hope they will behave toward me or else I feel terribly guilty and disappointed in myself. I was raised in a loving family in which adults sacrificed their own wants for their kids’ opportunities.
I’ve known a few *very* “bad” people whom I would consider to be narcissists and likely sociopaths. They don’t have redeeming qualities. But they never had a chance. All of them had tragic, abusive upbringings and happened into self-destructive ways as adults. Yes, they were bad, but they were bad because they learned they could not trust anyone at all to meet their needs and so they sought them through means entirely dismissive of others’ rights.

R15 I'm talking about evil ass white society in America. You know damn well where I'm coming from.
R13No, not Native Americans. White people were in America before AMERICA became a country officially in 1776. And their responsible for the sins they've committed from that time up until now. Judging by what what's going on in Washington right now, and Trump in the white house, after all of these centuries, they still haven't learned to be descent people.
So yes, white people are inherently evil. And it's a special kind of evil that sits prominently throughout American history. You can't point fingers at minorities and call them criminals, when white society intentionally created the ghettos specifically to place blacks and other racial minorities in them without any type of hope tools or resources for creating a better life. The system isn't broken, it's working exactly the way it was meant to work.
The whole system is ran by racist white crooks who care nothing about the poor, and who uses religion and right wing talking points to further a bullshit agenda that will only benefit mostly wealthy white people.
White society has a lot to answer for.

Not inherently bad. Inherently selfish, which makes us do bad things.

If we don't make some great evolutionary leap soon that makes us better than we are now I really won't be all that bummed when the AIs/robots we create eventually become sentient and decide to destroy us or there's another mass extinction event that removes us as a threat to the planet...I really hope the bees make it through.
