Vegans blaming carnivores for the virus

He's not wrong.

Um really? We need animal protein otherwise you end up anemic and several other deficiencies.

by Anonymousreply 1March 20, 2020 8:01 PM

Blame it on the Chinese Dogmeat Pate.

by Anonymousreply 2March 20, 2020 8:10 PM

We may have no choice but to go vegan. There is a shortage of meat and poultry.

by Anonymousreply 3March 20, 2020 8:13 PM

Cody doesn't look anemic.

As a manager who has employed thousands over the years, I find that vegetarians or vegans have a higher absentee rate. So much for being so “healthy “.

by Anonymousreply 5March 20, 2020 10:51 PM

Vegans are also mentally ill.

by Anonymousreply 6March 20, 2020 11:18 PM

That's a myth, r1. I'm not a vegan but I still know that's bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 7March 21, 2020 5:11 AM

There are two theories about the original host of the virus. One is pangolins, and there he's right that eating pangolin meat is the reason we're in a pandemic. The other one is bats. And I don't think Chinese people are eating bats, right?

by Anonymousreply 8March 21, 2020 5:34 AM

Nah, no thanks

by Anonymousreply 9March 21, 2020 5:37 AM

I'd eat his meat, though.

by Anonymousreply 10March 21, 2020 5:38 AM

Moly Mole Mole Mole! Mole! Mole!!!!

by Anonymousreply 11March 21, 2020 5:39 AM

bump

by Anonymousreply 12March 21, 2020 3:17 PM

Blame game, really?

by Anonymousreply 13March 21, 2020 3:17 PM

I can't stand these sanctimonious cunts.

by Anonymousreply 14March 21, 2020 3:32 PM

Veganism is an eating disorder. Like anorexics they feel the only thing they can control is what they eat.

by Anonymousreply 15March 21, 2020 3:34 PM

That was one vegan. Where are the others who blame?

by Anonymousreply 16March 21, 2020 3:35 PM

[quote]Um really? We need protein

Fixed that for you.

Well, I posted this before - but India is no cleaner than China, but you don't see these superviruses coming out of there. The nation is only maybe half vegetarian, with another 30% rarely eating meat.

But veganism is just extreme bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 19March 21, 2020 3:45 PM

My parents and grandparents farmed. They used horse manure for fertilizer. Their vegetables grew out of horse shit. Vegetarians and vegans are not immune to diseases like this.

by Anonymousreply 20March 21, 2020 4:01 PM

And AIDS? And Ebola? And Zika? And Hep A, B, C? And flu?

Enough with scouring news and sermons from Twitter.

by Anonymousreply 21March 21, 2020 4:06 PM

AIDS may have been caused by eating bushmeat.

by Anonymousreply 22March 21, 2020 4:11 PM

Well, there's no question that this virus and previous novel viruses came out of animal exploitation. All the evidence suggests that they typically transfer to humans from wild animals via unsanitary live markets or hunting. If we crack down on those practices—and veganism is the most drastic way to do it—we'd radically decrease the chances of introducing new viruses.

by Anonymousreply 23March 21, 2020 4:14 PM

R1 is an idiot. There's never been a vegan having protein deficiency in any medical records. Protein exists at some level in almost all foods, and is extremely high in many plants and vegetables.

In fact, there aren't more than 100 people in this country who even know the word for protein deficiency. And that's because it's so rare, the English language had to borrow a term from an African language. I won't say what it is. But I will bet that zero DLers have ever heard it. Google it if you want.

by Anonymousreply 24March 21, 2020 4:15 PM

[Quote]Um really? We need animal protein otherwise you end up anemic and several other deficiencies

You aren't wrong, but you're incomplete.

Humans need complete proteins, that is those containing all the amino acids, our bodies can't make on their own. There are five things that give you this: Meat, Milk, Eggs, and Blood. All of those contain complete proteins. I'll go into the fifth in a bit.

But that doesn't mean we have to eat those. Rice is an incomplete protein. It lacks certain amino acids. Beans also are incomplete, but if you eat rice AND beans...COMPLETE PROTEIN.

So you can eat certain combinations of food to get all your proteins and vitamins. Obviously if you don't eat meat but eat eggs, milk or blood, it's easier to get them. (Before someone asks, you can make blood pudding).

he fifth I mention is soybeans. But not all soybeans, in the 70s they crossbred certain types and manged to come up with a soybean that is a complete protein. But you need that specific type. Soybeans in general are close to complete but not, unless you get that special type of crossbred..

As for bats, yes the Chinese also eat bats, so do some Africans.

by Anonymousreply 25March 21, 2020 4:28 PM

If you love being a Vegan so much...why don't you marry a carrot?

by Anonymousreply 26March 21, 2020 4:42 PM

I could easily become vegetarian, but veganism is ridiculous and a stretch too far.

by Anonymousreply 27March 21, 2020 4:52 PM

I'd be curious to see a study on the overlap between vegans and Sanders supporters. A supercilious, self-righteous attitude is so common to both groups.

by Anonymousreply 28March 21, 2020 5:09 PM

R25 has never read a book about nutrition in his life, but he writes as though he's an expert.

Don't be like R25.

by Anonymousreply 29March 21, 2020 6:49 PM

Veganism and vegetarianism require a level of math and adventure that I’m not really too interested in pursuing.

by Anonymousreply 30March 22, 2020 4:24 PM

R22, show of hands, how many of you who didn't know what "eating bushmeat" was just assumed it was some slang for carpet munching...

by Anonymousreply 31March 22, 2020 4:38 PM

Aren't residents of Las Vegas called Vegans?

by Anonymousreply 32March 22, 2020 4:56 PM

There's enough horse shit in this thread to fertilize Kansas!

First off, let's wait for history to assign blame when this is all over. Only Russian trolls find advantage in having us fight each other right now.

Next, there has been a huge amount of actual, real scientific research on the health of vegetarians and vegans. There is no problem with protein deficiency, although parent raising infants as vegans are warned to follow medical advice about making sure the baby is getting sufficient nutrition after weaning from breast milk. In fact, those who follow a plant-based diet are generally less likely to have diabetes, coronary problems, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.

If you look at food choices as a scale, at one end you have true carnivores who eat nothing but meat. Not even french fries. At the other end you have extremists who limit their foods so radically (only fallen fruits; no grains or cooked foods, etc.) that you wonder how they can scrape up enough calories to get though the day. You can't be healthy at either end of the spectrum. Veganism is only one standard deviation from the center of the bell curve.

We could debate the planetary and ethical consequences of people's food choices, but that shifts the ground closer to laying blame, and that's not where we need to be right now.

PS, I've known the word kwashiorkor since I was in elementary school, when I first starting participating in social-political action groups that were working to defeat it. What do I win, [R24]?

by Anonymousreply 33March 22, 2020 5:16 PM

This is coming from PETA.

by Anonymousreply 34March 23, 2020 4:55 PM

R24, you would lose.

Kwashiorkor, marasmus, and similar terms are common in any basic nutrition, introductory medical or veterinary course. I heard it at home as a child, but then again, my dad was a pathologist.

by Anonymousreply 35March 23, 2020 9:23 PM

I wouldn't blame individual meat eaters (no human is a true "carnivore" anyway), but it's true that human demand for meat and other animal-based products (hence, animal agriculture) is the root cause of COVID-19 and all viruses in general, including HIV.

by Anonymousreply 36May 3, 2020 6:38 PM

Guys like this always go back to eating meat

by Anonymousreply 37May 3, 2020 6:47 PM

^ There are plenty who don't.

And plenty meatheads going vegan every day.

by Anonymousreply 38May 3, 2020 7:01 PM

People need to eat meat responsibility and ethically which is difficult to do in our world. None of this brutality and eating random and rare animals like china likes. No more factory farming. We need free range meat or more people need to hunt deer. I’m a vegetarian of 29 years and have no issue with responsible hunters who eat what they kill and don’t go out looking for trophies. The meat and dairy industry as it is is evil.

by Anonymousreply 39May 3, 2020 7:06 PM

[quote]We may have no choice but to go vegan.

No, there's something called vegetarianism. Much healthier than full on vegan.

by Anonymousreply 40May 3, 2020 7:09 PM

Good, r39. Then you're willing for meat and animal products to be fairly priced in order to be "humanely" raised and slaughtered, and that means expensive.

Chicken wings would cost about like caviar and be eaten on special occasions.

The average meat eater likes to think eating only grass fed organic beef or bacon or eggs or milk is morally superior but they wouldn't really want to pay the ACTUAL price if all the other "inhumane" (a relative term) options like factory farms were eliminated.

R22 Certain types of chimpanzees found in central Africa are the reservoir of HIV 1. HIV is a zoonotic disease. Exposure/transmission did not come from eating an infected chimpanzee; the acids in the stomach break down the virus. Rather it was transmitted typically via hunting and butchering an infected chimpanzee, and then spread via sexual contact, and later via delivery of medications via syringes use on hundreds - if not thousands - of people without being sterilized (this occurred in the 50's in Africa).

by Anonymousreply 43May 3, 2020 7:21 PM

Vegetables feel pain too. Vegans will end up eating chemicals.

by Anonymousreply 44May 3, 2020 7:22 PM

[Quote] Um really? We need animal protein otherwise you end up anemic and several other deficiencies.

Actually no.

If cavemen needed all the animal protein that we eat on a daily basis, the would never have made past a few days.

by Anonymousreply 45May 3, 2020 7:25 PM

Anyone who thinks protein only comes from animal meat, calcium only comes from milk, potassium only comes from bannanas or that olive oil is "healthy fat", doesn't know anything about nutrition.

by Anonymousreply 46May 3, 2020 7:33 PM

Apparently, the vegan scolds of DL have found this thread.

by Anonymousreply 47May 3, 2020 7:34 PM

^ Thanks for commenting and keeping the thread near the top.

by Anonymousreply 48May 3, 2020 7:36 PM

R46 wait olive oil isn’t healthy?

Or do you mean that it’s still fat and therefore one cannot have as much as they like just because it’s healthy?

by Anonymousreply 49May 3, 2020 7:38 PM

^I didn't say you people and your hectoring weren't entertaining.

by Anonymousreply 50May 3, 2020 7:39 PM

^ ALL vegetable oils are unhealthy.

Olive oil may be a *little* less unhealthy.

But being less unhealthy doesn't equal "healthy." People can be confused by this, and advertisers take advantage.

It's like people who think vaping is healthy only because it's less bad than smoking.

by Anonymousreply 51May 3, 2020 7:43 PM

I went plant based almost a year ago and eat no meat, poultry, or dairy. I do eat canned tuna however. I have never been healthier. I lost about 40 lbs and reversed some heart problems and avoided having to have a stent according to my cardiologist. The FDA exaggerates by huge amounts the amount of protein that actually is needed in the body to live on a daily basis. You can get protein from nuts, beans, even vegetables have protein. We have been brainwashed into drinking our milk and eating a lot of meat and dairy simply so agribusiness can make a fortune.

I live in a state with a lot of meat and poultry processing plants and believe me what goes on in there you dont want to think about. Now add on top of that a sizeable number of employees working in those places have covid 19.........eating that processed crap they put out is a big no for me..........

by Anonymousreply 52May 3, 2020 8:22 PM

No way would I give up eggs and cheese. Some dairy is just necessary. Mayo needs eggs. It just does. That fake shit tastes like, well, shit.

by Anonymousreply 53May 3, 2020 8:26 PM

But Bat and Pangolin Surprise is so incredibly delicious! And all you need is a little paste made from ground-up black cats to counteract the COVID...
