Politico: Majority now approves of Trump’s handling of this crisis

It’s still early in all this. Wait until they turn the town square into a field hospital.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 20, 2020 1:17 PM |
It doesn't help when idiots like Dana Bash apparently praise him for his handling as if he didn't purposely fire the pandemic team two years ago or did nothing 3 months ago when he knew about this or called it a hoax and now his disgusting supporters pretend he didn't and literally tell you he never did. We have fucking video of him and his FOX flying monkeys calling it a hoax or a Dem hoax and now they just L I E.
The media -save a few exceptions- haven't held his feet to the fire. They've allowed him to do what he always does: Get away with it. When Yamiche Alcindor called out his firing of the pandemic team and he attempted to ignore it, the next journalist should've pressed him on it. I mean how do you just move on from something so crucial to all of this? He dismantled the team that literally handles THIS.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 20, 2020 1:18 PM |
People are so desperate for this man to just "act normal" and decent that they give him chance after chance after chance. I've never seen anything like it and maybe it's because the economy appears to be doing well. I don't think I've ever seen another president, democratic or republican, get so many opportunities to reset, then blows it all up, then gets another opportunity to reset again. Even the media, who would have ripped other presidents a new one by now, just keep hoping that he will act presidential. We are living in strange days.

He may be reelected. Americans are that stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 20, 2020 1:29 PM |
Because he's an entitled, wealthy, white guy. Obama never would've been allowed to be this incompetent or divisive - and he actually would've been impeached. Frankly, Obama wouldn't have even been allowed on a debate stage, let alone get the nomination and presidency.
And the "fake news" where Trump happily ran to for his birther bullshit and self-promotion caused all of this. They normalized that motherfucker. They allowed him the platform.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 20, 2020 1:30 PM |
CNN and some of MSNBC helped him be elected. And the Times. It's not just Fox News.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 20, 2020 1:32 PM |
Bull shit poll :
1) A Web-based survey company was used in order to conduct the poll.
2) 502 people sampled even though their top line PFD says 512 people. Meaning that not all of the people that took their web based survey answered all questions.
The majority could mean 100 deplorable of 160 that bothered to answer that question. This is Politico spreading propaganda

by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 20, 2020 1:38 PM |
Americans tend to rally around the president in times of crisis, even when the president is a fucking idiot. Bush's popularity soared in the weeks and months following 9/11. My fear is that as the news becomes more and more grim in the next few months, the cries of "We must support our president!" and "Now is not the time for politics!" will grow louder. And if the crisis lasts into the fall (which it almost certainly will), we'll hear Trumptards saying, "Now is not the time to change presidents!" Yes, Americans are stupid enough that they may end up re-electing Trump.

No, actually his job is not to foster complacency about an epidemic, telling people to go to work when they're sick, claiming that the few US cases will soon get better, etc., until reality persuaded him it wasn't working. His job isn't to ramble ignorantly on irrelevancies in press conferences. And he hasn't kept things even somewhat "stabile."

Trump is doing a great job. He has made test kits available to anyone who wants one. He helped Google create a national testing website. He has used the Defense Production Act to order businesses to manufacture more ventilators and masks. And just yesterday, he discovered a cure for coronavirus -- chloroquine. I'm sure we'll be down to zero cases by next month, when the warmer weather washes away the virus.

You’re not a “dem.” However you are dim, a dim idiot. Because of Trump we are not prepared. He and his administration spent 2 months doing nothing but attempting to down play it. He does not care about this country, nor it’s citizens. The bottom falling out of the stock market is the only thing that caused him to take some action. He gets credit for being “present”, including continuing to hold rallies and attending CPAC. Really? That’s your idea of doing the job of being president. WTF

Dana Bash (CNN) interviewed Mitch McConnell hours back. Outside of Fox, she's popular with prominent, older Republican politicians who want to be interviewed by someone who displays much deference and delivers softball questions. Her interviews with Rudy Giuliani last year looked as if she was starstruck.
These politicians need to press politicàl figures for straight answers, and insist on substantive replies as to when and how urgent concerns get addressed and resolved.

The same mind control that had more people voting for Hillary in the primary than Bernie.
Bernie's assholes are far worse than Trump's assholes because the former can't claim to believe in the things that they do (ie. left-wing policies) and so easily allow trump to win or pretend Biden is worse than Trump; that is mental illness on their part. There's nothing remotely normal about that mindset. You don't have an actual ideology. you only worship some person because the antithesis of his ideology IS Trump.

Somehow, Biden has been able to motivate the 2018 coalition with limited funds. Trump is flying higher today, but November is a lifetime away.
This was funny that he is gong for to war against the virus. People kept saying that Trump would start a war for his re-election. This couldn’t be better situated for him. Additionally he gets to send people cash in a few weeks. Again, November is forever and a day away. I’m not going to panic yet.

by Anonymous | reply 82 | March 20, 2020 3:57 PM |
A normal president would have an approval in the 80s+ during a huge crisis like this, just like Bush had after 9/11. The fact that Trump's is only in the 50s is not good news for him.
Having said that, Biden should start doing press conferences to get his message out there. He should take a cue from Cuomo, who has become the face of the Democratic party during the pandemic. Biden has kind of disappeared since the last debate. The political conventions will be cancelled this year, so Biden won't have that to help him either.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | March 20, 2020 4:08 PM |
[quote]He is handling it okay right now for being Trump IMO (it's a low bar)
No, he is NOT handling it okay right now. There are multiple things he has not done - mobilize the hospital ships (which should have been done months ago), activate the Defense Production Act (ditto, so that factories could be making ventilators now), and of course the whole testing fiasco (there should be tens of millions of tests available now, there's no way to control the pandemic otherwise, and yet the states have scarcely any tests at their disposal because he's failed to do anything about it). He's sidelined the Centers for Disease Control by subordinating the public health experts to the politicians in the White House.
There are very few countries on the planet that are handling this as poorly as the US is. Andrew Cuomo has been doing a far better job, but even his hands are tied.
I think people are hearing about the checks and basing their opinion on that. But $1000 would go nowhere; the Democrats are proposing up to $4500, which is the only thing that will keep the economy afloat.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | March 20, 2020 4:23 PM |
The realities of living in a world where most people only read headlines. Everyday Trump issues a couple of statements about great steps towards fighting this but they’re all lies. That ship going to NYC? It needs weeks of matinence and by the time it gets there thousands will already be dead. FDA approval? No, doctors can issue it but it is NOT approved for covid treatment. Masks? You gotta wait 18 months. We also never heard anything about those drive thru tests that all Wal Marts were supposed to have.
The press has a real responsibility to not let trump get away with this. The stuff he says sounds nice so people hear it and feel better and then move on. The press needs to make clear it’s all been empty promises so far.
When we get thru this it will be because of governors like Cuomo, Lamont, Newsom, Dewine who have stepped up and taken charge.

[quote] Having said that, Biden should start doing press conferences to get his message out there. He should take a cue from Cuomo, who has become the face of the Democratic party during the pandemic.
Cuomo can do daily press conferences because he's a governor. Biden is not currently an elected official. If Biden starts doing regular press conferences to discuss the coronavirus crisis, then people will complain that Biden is "politicizing" the crisis and "trying to score political points." And they'll complain that he's trying to undercut the president at a time when we need to rally around the president. And if Biden tries to talk about any other issues besides coronavirus, people will say "How can you even talk about other issues when we're facing a global crisis?"
This crisis puts Biden in a really tough situation. I'd like to think that Trump's colossal fuck-ups make it impossible for Trump to win in November, but I don't think that's a safe bet.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | March 20, 2020 5:46 PM |
So how is Trump handling this well when he passed the burden on to the governors?
"Trump earlier Thursday repeated his belief that the onus should be on the states -- and not the federal government -- to obtain needed equipment to combat the pandemic, saying his administration is not a “shipping clerk” for the supplies that could potentially save lives."
