Costco will not allow returns on high-demand items like toilet paper & water

GOOD. People are trying to return some and they’re saying no. Good. This is what you get for panicking and being greedy.

And it will keep them out of the stores as supplies replenish.

by Anonymousreply 1March 20, 2020 1:21 AM

Who the fuck returns toilet paper or water?

by Anonymousreply 2March 20, 2020 1:35 AM

People who spent $300 dollars on toilet paper and water then lost their job the next day and want cash.

by Anonymousreply 3March 20, 2020 1:41 AM

[quote]Who the fuck returns toilet paper or water?

Well, at least they're not trying to return USED toilet paper, like some people try to return other used items...

However, if you bought 20 6-packs of toilet paper at say $6 per pack, I can see where you might realize that you don't need it all and not want to have your money tied up in toilet paper futures.

by Anonymousreply 4March 20, 2020 1:41 AM

Good.

People do massive hoarding thinking it might come in handy, maybe they can resell and if not always return it.

Fuck their crazy hoarding.

by Anonymousreply 5March 20, 2020 1:45 AM

Good. But they should have put limits on the purchases once it became clear that people were hoarding.

by Anonymousreply 6March 20, 2020 1:49 AM

They bought in volume to re-sell at gouging prices; but now they aren't getting the buyer-market they hoped for. Ha ha!

by Anonymousreply 7March 20, 2020 1:54 AM

[quote]Who the fuck returns toilet paper or water?

People who tainted it with their taint.

by Anonymousreply 8March 20, 2020 2:02 AM

One thing you can be sure of - you will always have need for these two items. Save them.

by Anonymousreply 9March 20, 2020 2:20 AM

Yay!!!

by Anonymousreply 10March 20, 2020 2:21 AM

I saw the signs and can’t understand why the fuck you would return water and rice.

Couldn’t find any god-damned TP at all.

Got some water and eggs and milk. No SPAM to be found, either.

Then they don’t know when they’ll get TP. “ We don’t know what is in the trucks until we open them in the morning” bull.

by Anonymousreply 11March 20, 2020 2:26 AM

R11 that is fact. I am a manager for Target, same thing. We don’t know what is coming on the truck until we open it and accept each box by scanning it in. Whatever is in those boxes will be added to our inventory.

by Anonymousreply 12March 20, 2020 2:32 AM

Ugh, sorry R12 but it’s frustrating as hell.

by Anonymousreply 13March 20, 2020 2:40 AM

It’s out of our control r13.

by Anonymousreply 14March 20, 2020 2:43 AM

I’d stand outside Costco and give those asswipes 50 cents on the dollar, except that I have both a job and a lot of toilet paper. Fuck them.

by Anonymousreply 15March 20, 2020 3:01 AM

I work for a grocery store and the system does most of the ordering, obviously with the rushes on most products the warehouses are simply out of a lot of things. We've been getting Tp every night and it's usually gone before 10 am and we've been opening at 8. It will be a while before things return to even close to normal stock levels.

by Anonymousreply 16March 20, 2020 4:15 AM

Will second R12 response.

Virtually all supermarkets, convience stores and many other retail now all use some version of "order to shelf" system of inventory control. Managers often don't input orders anymore; but rather computers look at what is selling (via register sales) and do much of the ordering instead. That and depending what is on sale that week, what is being pushed (maybe some buyer snagged a boat load of Starbucks coffee), is sent. Sometimes if you want something a manager can order it; but other times not.

Often go into local Duane Reade or CVS when they've gotten a truck and are stocking shelves. If ask them for a certain item not on shelf they cannot tell which of those blue or grey plastic bins it is in, or even if it came with recent delivery.

by Anonymousreply 17March 20, 2020 5:31 AM

Suspect a whole lot of people charged all this shyte to their CC, and now are having remorse after looking at their statements. Tough titties.

by Anonymousreply 18March 20, 2020 5:34 AM

Stores get a shipping manifest that shows what is one the truck. They will know when sanitizer is coming, etc. This just in time delivery system fails when an emergency comes up. I went to 2 stores yesterday, knowing their truck delivery times. They got nothing in. The grocery store did get TP. Sam's got in TP, but they set have a limit of 2 of those gigantic pack, when really the limit should be 1. Sam's also got water in, and are limiting 2. Their register actually limits the sale; it won't allow more than 2.

by Anonymousreply 19March 20, 2020 11:28 AM

[quote]Who the fuck returns toilet paper or water?

More than likely, it's folks who saw the stampede for toilet paper, so bought a HUGE quantity thinking they could resell it at extortionate prices.

However, now that ebay and amazon have begun stopping those types of sales, they've realized they've invested hundreds in stock they won't be able to move, so want to try to get their money back.

Good for Costco and other retailers for saying no returns on this type of grotesquerie.

by Anonymousreply 20March 20, 2020 12:12 PM

R19 no. We don’t know what is on the truck until we receive it.

by Anonymousreply 21March 20, 2020 12:50 PM

THIS is what is being transported on the trucks. Build the Wall!

I guess I’ll have to camp out at Costco tonight

Our TP supply is down to 3 rolls. 😳

by Anonymousreply 23March 20, 2020 4:09 PM

After trying at several different places online I managed to catch Walmart online with some Charmin for sale. Missed out on a reasonable sized package of it, all that was left was a 30-pack, and it took 10 days but it did finally arrive. Now I'm set for months.

If you're having trouble finding some, I suggest checking out Walmart at random times just in case they get more in stock.

by Anonymousreply 24March 20, 2020 4:34 PM

[quote] they should have put limits on the purchases once it became clear that people were hoarding.

But Murica! Individual freedom & entrepreneurship are the most beautiful things about our free market society. You’ve got to let the market decide. If I’m smart enough to corner the market on a product, I’m better than other people. Every Murican deserves a chance to lie, cheat, steal, hide money from the IRS and keep every penny they make. It’s MAH money, not the gubbernints. I made that money through hard work of driving around, buying out stores & ordering huge quantities of needed goods online. I’m a bidnessman.

by Anonymousreply 25March 20, 2020 4:51 PM

So in other words COSTCO instead of taking back the unused toilet paper and allowing some person who doesn't have any to buy it, will instead make that person go without for a week till they can get restocked.

Yeah real good.

by Anonymousreply 26March 20, 2020 5:18 PM

That was my first thought too [R26]. why not take it back so others can buy it? Personally, I'd have made these grifters give it all back without refunding anything. Also, people in Reno - Food Source has a shitload (pardon the pun) of toilet paper (12 roll packs).

by Anonymousreply 27March 20, 2020 5:34 PM

R27 because they are punishing the hoarders

by Anonymousreply 28March 20, 2020 5:45 PM

Maybe they can stand outside the store and try to sell it.

At this point I think I’d buy a pack.

🤷🏻‍♀️

by Anonymousreply 29March 20, 2020 6:03 PM

People also likely thought they could mark this stuff up and sell it on weren't counting on eBay, Amazon, Facebook and other online marketplaces shutting that down ASAP.

by Anonymousreply 30March 20, 2020 6:19 PM

r29 They'd better be careful.

by Anonymousreply 31March 20, 2020 6:24 PM

LOL, {R4}

by Anonymousreply 32March 20, 2020 6:32 PM

[quote]Maybe they can stand outside the store and try to sell it. At this point I think I’d buy a pack.

And afterwards, I hope you slap their face. Slap their face viciously!

by Anonymousreply 33March 20, 2020 6:46 PM

r25, so true.

by Anonymousreply 34March 20, 2020 7:08 PM

R21 I use to work for Target. Receiving can view what is getting delivered. All store have a system to view what is being shipped. What do you think? Random quantities of shit just arrive? No, distribution sends you 3 cases of Cottenelle TP; your store scans only 2; discrepancy. Look for third or it's missing 1, AGAINST a shipping manifest that was created. You may not look at a list, but there is one.

by Anonymousreply 35March 21, 2020 4:18 AM

R35 clearly you haven’t dealt with our new systems. Shhhhh

by Anonymousreply 36March 21, 2020 4:20 AM

Why would you return toilet paper? Just keep it and give to friend and family.

I do not think you should return water that does not sound safe.

by Anonymousreply 37March 21, 2020 4:25 AM

No Returns for YOU!

by Anonymousreply 38March 21, 2020 5:07 AM

R37

There isn't a reason to return TP if you only purchased excess that can be used in a reasonable amount of time. Idiots that cleared out entire shelves deserve what they get. Also as stated am willing to bet they charged all that TP and water on CC and are panicking about the bill.

In this current climate they have two options besides keeping; donate or sell at below retail price. Attempting to make a profit on that stuff would be price gouging.

by Anonymousreply 39March 21, 2020 8:20 AM

R26 and the people not understanding why Costco isnt accepting returns and thinking they're stupid not to resell it...

You realize these people aren't returning these items today, right? Costco is warning hoarders to stop boarding because 3 months from now when they decide it's safe and they don't need the security of 90 rolls of TP and want their money back they'll be SOL. It's a deterrent for these people to stop buying so much.

by Anonymousreply 40March 21, 2020 9:08 AM

cost co sells bulk toilet paper anyways. That the whole point of Cost co, you go a couple of times a year, not twice a week. Now, they have enough for months, and they can give it to friends or family. what type of moron tries to return toilet paper?

They also said water. I do not even think that is safe.

by Anonymousreply 41March 22, 2020 4:19 AM

Success!!!

I stood in line for 2 and a half hours early Friday morning but I finally got the 30 roll TP🥳🥳🤗🤗

Got some Lysol spray as well but sold it to my boss.

That 30 roll package lasts about 2 or 3 months for our family so we are good now.

by Anonymousreply 42March 28, 2020 10:14 PM

[quote]what type of moron tries to return toilet paper?

The type of moron who buys 10 of these to keep for themselves and then wants to return it after the emergency is over so that they don't actually have to pay for what they didn't need, because they couldn't afford it in the first place.
