Why Isn’t a China Being Held Accountable?
The mainstream media and WHO seem more concerned with, being “woke” and “non-racist”, rather than taking China, and more specifically the Chinese Communist Party to task for its disinformation, coverup, and slow response to COVID-19, which has led to a deadly global pandemic and major global recession.
China should be shamed for reprimanding and silencing eight Wuhan doctors—two of which died—for trying to alert the public of a new coronavirus in early January.
China should be disgraced for allowing the operation of “wet markets”, where this virus is likely to have originated, even after being clearly aware of their dangers as harbingers of disease, after the 2002 SARS outbreak.
And all western nations should strongly repudiate China’s quest for global leadership, as reports that China authorized the destruction of nCov19 genomic samples in early January, which showed that the new virus was highly similar to the deadly and virulent SARS coronavirus.
Bottom line: China and the CCP’s reckless behavior, wanton disregard for the health and wellness of its own people—and by proxy the world’s—and ruthless pursuit of unrestricted, omnipotent power, have caused the greatest pandemic since 1918.
And yet all the WHO and many Western media outlets care about is not calling the virus Chinese, when in fact the scope and severity of this outbreak was preventable had Chinese authorities acted responsibly.

Yes, the US response, as has the response in many western nations has been utterly pathetic and Trump is responsible for the US’s lack of testing and preparation. But we wouldn’t be in this situation if it weren’t for the corrupt and evil CCP.

The economic “mess”—could spiral into a depression, R4 has everything to do with China. Because of this virus, many industries won’t have a way of generating any significant revenue. Meanwhile, China has mostly contained the virus that it allowed to spread, so its economy will rebound.

It's the China that has brought the world to it's knees over this. Not Trump. And China should be called out for it.

The wet markets: I agree they must be closed. Traditional medicine derived from animals must be eliminated. Ideally violations would result in the death penalty.
However, pushing China too hard to do it might result in their defending it in the name of nationalism. You have to do it gently to get results, with positive reinforcement. Trump isn't capable of working with other developed countries to make that happen. Perhaps Justin Trudeau would be a good "ambassador" from the developed world. Or Moon Jae-in of South Korea ("Big brother (China is traditionally seen as Korea's "big brother"), would you please consider eliminating undomesticated animals from your markets?").

China needs to be shamed relentlessly by western nations and move as much manufacturing out of China (especially critical health manufacturing) as possible. The west should absolutely not trust Huawei, the telecom arm of the CCP with their 5G networks; unfortunately, this case is a lost cause as they poor European leadership chose convenience and low cost equipment over the safety and security of their networks.
The WHO is a corrupt organization which derives most of its revenue from US taxpayers but has its nose buried far up China’s ass.

Wagging a finger at China won't do anything to improve the situation here but demanding accountability and appropriate action from our own president and government might. Italy wasn't doing any testing unless the person had direct ties to China even though they had a huge spike in ARDS. They weren't isolating people unless they had a direct link to China, which caused medical professionals to come down with it and spread the virus in Lombardy. They never took into account community spread. It was a shitshow. And then they stopped direct flights to China, which means fuck all in Europe. This hindered the ability to track people coming into Italy from affected regions because they just came through Spain or France and then into Italy.
And just look up the UK on your own.

I have little faith that the Chinese will stop eating anything that moves and will improve their hygiene and sanitation methods. They'll never change, and no amount of disease is going to make them. They couldn't care less what other countries think or say about them.

[quote]Some American commentators and Democratic politicians are aghast at Donald Trump and Republicans for referring to the pandemic as the “Wuhan virus” and repeatedly pointing to China as the source of the pandemic. In naming the disease COVID-19, the World Health Organization specifically avoided mentioning Wuhan. Yet in de-emphasizing where the epidemic began (something China has been aggressively pushing for), we run the risk of obscuring Beijing’s role in letting the disease spread beyond its borders.
China has a history of mishandling outbreaks, including SARS in 2002 and 2003. But Chinese leaders’ negligence in December and January—for well over a month after the first outbreak in Wuhan—far surpasses those bungled responses. The end of last year was the time for authorities to act, and, as Nicholas D. Kristof of The New York Times has noted, “act decisively they did—not against the virus, but against whistle-blowers who were trying to call attention to the public health threat"
This is what allowed the virus to spread across the globe. Because the Chinese Communist Party was pretending that there was little to be concerned about, Wuhan was a porous purveyor of the virus. The government only instituted a lockdown in Wuhan on January 23—seven weeks after the virus first appeared. As events in Italy, the United States, Spain, and France have shown, quite a lot can happen in a week, much less seven. By then, mayor Zhou Xianwang admitted that more than 5 million people had already left Wuhan.

[quote]If that weren’t enough, we can plumb recent history for an even more damning account. In a 2019 article, Chinese experts warned it was “highly likely that future SARS- or MERS-like coronavirus outbreaks will originate from bats, and there is an increased probability that this will occur in China.” In a 2007 journal article, infectious-disease specialists published a study arguing that “the presence of a large reservoir of SARS-CoV-like viruses in horseshoe bats, together with the culture of eating exotic mammals in southern China, is a time bomb. The possibility of the reemergence of SARS and other novel viruses from animals or laboratories and therefore the need for preparedness should not be ignored.” It was ignored.

The people making these bullshit, didactic statements about the origins of the disease, when even the scientific community isn't completely sure of its origins at this point, sound just like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson back in the early 80's. Both of them were, completely certain that AIDS was God's punishment against gay people and their wicked, evil lifestyles, and were smugly delighted in every death that virus caused.
I take ignorance and stupidity very seriously, R95, , especially when it's disguised as dogmatic, scientific fact.

The origins of the virus are not in dispute. Pangolins infected by bats that were then consumed by humans in Wuhan. The filthy, disgusting practice of eating animals no human should ever eat caused this.

Whoever it is saying the origins of the coronavirus is in dispute is an idiot. The coronavirus is endemic to bats. It's never been in dispute where it came from. If it started in Germany as you claim then you'd be looking at China level infection and deaths prior to it hitting China in December.

This thread should really not be grayed out.
OP, many individual (Western) correspondents and other reporters in China, some of whom have lived and worked there for years, have explained to their audiences the extent to which Xi Jinping's government is responsible for the global spread of this pandemic. They have told the story of how the Chinese government covered up the situation, allowed 5 million potentially affected people to leave Wuhan (and Hubei province) and travel freely, without restrictions, how critical intellectuals who published articles about the crisis were demoted and/or punished; how the national government attempted to shift the blame to regional authorities, and so on. All the information is out there, and anyone who is remotely well informed about the situation is aware of these facts. Just find a good veteran journalist (Evan Osnos for The New Yorker comes to find) and read their articles, follow them on Twitter.

Which again, R119 is why I’m starting to believe the CCP intentionally let this turn into an international crisis knowing it would destabilize the world economy and accelerate their path to world domination.
Western media is dominated by SJW’s and idiot reporters who care more about not hurting China’s feelings rather than holding this lying, scheming regime accountable for all the damage it’s done.
Like I said above, people won’t really care until this starts affecting them directly.

R121, China could offload all of its US debt, but it would end up devaluing the yuan.
China's currency, the yuan, is not fully free floating. Beijing uses its Treasury holdings as a key tool to stabilize the yuan within a targeted range, against the dollar in particular.
Translation: it’s not going to happen. China’s economy is already is free fall, they aren’t going to sell U.S. debt all at once, which would put further pressure in their economy.

We've been worrying about the effect on the supply chain since we realized the illness would interrupt Chinese manufacturing. Well, let's take advantage. As much as I hate a Trump, electing Biden just means regressing to Obama’s China policy—which is to do nothing, even courage China’s undermining of the US through targeted misinformation campaigns, predatory trade practices, turning a blind eye to intellectual property theft, etc.
China is 100% the biggest threat to US period. The fact that Biden is still clinging to this clearly outdated 20 year-old notion that China will “liberalize” and observe the rules-based global order has been clearly disproven based on their actions. Biden is therefore not fit to be President.

Nobody thinks China is cool, dipshit. And I loathe all forms of quackery, including herbal medicine. But that's not what contemporary Chinese medical doctors practice, and outside of remote rural areas, Chinese citizens are VASTLY better educated than "flyover rednecks." Are you a redneck?
