Anyone else thinking that Andrew Cuomo should have run for president this year?

He's been doing a great job dealing with Covid-19 and with sounding like he's in charge and a leader, even though he has that fucking idiot Warren Wilhelm Junior to deal with.

He sounds real most of the time.

Too late now, but I'm glad he's the governor.

by Anonymousreply 159March 24, 2020 1:13 AM

Maybe, if Biden wins, he'll be asked to lead some of the Covid-19 response/recovery.

by Anonymousreply 1March 18, 2020 6:14 PM

But everyone hates him, OP. Including the people who voted for him. They just didn't want a younger lesbian version of Bernie Sanders for governor.

Outside NY, everyone really hates him. He has such a nasty, smug, aggressive know-it-all attitude. And after NY's history with its last few governors, this one seems like just another wife-beater. He's probably not, but he has that vibe. You just know he beats the fuck out of something every night, even if it's only a boxer's punching bag with Sandra Lee's face on it.

by Anonymousreply 2March 18, 2020 6:14 PM

No.

Anyone who thinks so hasn’t had to listen to his hectoring NY accent voice since 1993

by Anonymousreply 3March 18, 2020 6:15 PM

OP, the country is completely over New Yorkers running for and being President. Rich New Yorkers are completely out of touch with the rest of the country.

by Anonymousreply 4March 18, 2020 6:19 PM

Cuomo is doing a great job with coronavirus. He saw Trump fucking it up and recognized a huge political opportunity was his to grab. He's run with it successfully.

But he's an arrogant S.O.B. His honking voice is like nails on a chalkboard and he's too narcissistic to do anything to fix that. He is, on the whole, thoroughly unappealing.

De Blasio, on the other hand, is hot as hell.

by Anonymousreply 5March 18, 2020 6:21 PM

Cuomo is a hot daddy that needs to tell me what to do.

by Anonymousreply 6March 18, 2020 6:22 PM

1) That accent. His brother lost his Noo Yawk accent so he could work on TV. Why does Andrew's accent just get worse over time? I grew up in NYC and I've come to realize how unattractive and thuggish this sounds to anyone outside of New York.

2) Not all of us in NYC love the Gov, particularly since the MTA is a state agency with no transparency, no accountability, and in a constant state of decline. Just one example.

3) DiBlasio is many, many times worse. At least Cuomo can be effective, periodically. And BTW, they HATE each other.

by Anonymousreply 7March 18, 2020 6:24 PM

He wouldn't have gone anywhere in this cycle. He's shining because he deserves to shine. He's stepping up. I don't know if he's getting it right, but he's getting on it and that is worth something right now. He does now have the profile for a run in future and, jerk or not, a record you (probably) have to respect.

by Anonymousreply 8March 18, 2020 6:26 PM

[quote]But he's an arrogant S.O.B. His honking voice is like nails on a chalkboard and he's too narcissistic to do anything to fix that.

Chris cuts his brother off when interviewing him, I think he doesn't like to hear Andrew talk.

by Anonymousreply 9March 18, 2020 6:31 PM

Does he stand out in any way politically? What issues would you most associate him with?

by Anonymousreply 10March 18, 2020 6:31 PM

[quote]Chris cuts his brother off when interviewing him, I think he doesn't like to hear Andrew talk.

I don't think he likes to hear anybody but himself talk.

by Anonymousreply 11March 18, 2020 6:32 PM

Immediately after Sandy Hook, he went for strengthening gun regulation in New York. The legislature passed the "Safe Act" and he signed it. A significant portion of the upstate electorate hate him for it. There are signs in all their front yards, years later, still bitching about the Safe Act.

He has advocated for and signed bail reform. He is big on a woman's right to choose.

He is also enormously skilled at grabbing political power for his own purposes.

by Anonymousreply 12March 18, 2020 6:35 PM

R10: Attacking teacher's unions, keeping the State Senate Republican as an excuse not to do anything remotely left wing, shutting down an investigation into corruption he set up because it got too close to associates of his, setting up a campaign finance commission that tried to backdoor regulations smashing the Working Families Party, etc.

Cuomo blows and YMF needs to stop trying to make Cumo and Fetch happen!

by Anonymousreply 13March 18, 2020 6:35 PM

Generally I don’t like the guy but agree that in this situation he is doing a stellar job.

by Anonymousreply 14March 18, 2020 6:49 PM

You hear that, YMF?

Gaaaaaaaaaaah!

by Anonymousreply 15March 18, 2020 6:52 PM

Oh dear, I think R5 is running a fever (based on that DeBlahBlah comment). Do you also have a cough?

by Anonymousreply 16March 18, 2020 7:05 PM

Andrew Cuomo is the de facto POTUS, while the dotard stands onstage scowling, sniffing and fidgeting.

by Anonymousreply 17March 18, 2020 7:07 PM

No Democratic dynasty candidates for me, thanks.

by Anonymousreply 18March 18, 2020 7:11 PM

Cuomo remembers Giuliani grabbing the spotlight on 9/11 & making everyone believe he was “America’s mayor,” profiting off his fame for decades. He sees Trump totally fucking up the response & says, “I’m gonna make Covid 19 my bitch & own Donald Trump. I’ll be ‘America’s governor.!’ Then I’ll continually run for office & lose but make a fuckload of money off “global security” and run my own spy agency behind the backs of the CIA & the state department!”

by Anonymousreply 19March 18, 2020 10:55 PM

He is a good technocrat, YMF. But maybe too New York for the rest of the country.

by Anonymousreply 20March 18, 2020 10:57 PM

God, no.

by Anonymousreply 21March 18, 2020 10:59 PM

So how do you feel about a potential trump monarchy, R18? Imagine these United States under King Junior's rule or King Barron's (feel free to insert the name of your favorite grifter).

by Anonymousreply 22March 18, 2020 11:52 PM

As compared to tRump, most will come across as brilliant.

by Anonymousreply 23March 18, 2020 11:52 PM

[quote] Cuomo is a hot daddy that needs to tell me what to do.

He can tell me to suck him first, then get my mouth on Chris, too.

by Anonymousreply 24March 18, 2020 11:53 PM

I would give anything for another President from nice, sensible, Ohio.

by Anonymousreply 25March 18, 2020 11:53 PM

I'm no Chris Cuomo fan, but just the other night he was interviewing Andrew and Andrew called him, "Little brother..." He was so condescending and offensive and arrogant I wanted to slap the shit out of him. I couldn't stand that fucker to be PResident. He's an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 26March 19, 2020 12:04 AM

cuomo only looks and sounds good because trump is such a fucking incompetent shitstain on humanity. if obama were handling this, cuomo would be a minor player,

by Anonymousreply 27March 19, 2020 12:08 AM

I voted for Andrew Cuomo twice, I'd vote for him again.

Sometimes we have to remember the work and accomplishments some politicians achieve throughout their career.

I may not always agree with all of Governor Cuomo's positions, but I do appreciate how diligent and consistent he's been about informing his constituents about the virus. I also won't forget how supportive he's been of New York's LGBTQ community. Governor Cuomo worked hard, pulled in favors and pulled strings to get marriage equality passed in New York State years before it was recognized at the federal level.

by Anonymousreply 28March 19, 2020 12:24 AM

He's very smart and he is very calculating. A 100 % political creature. Very pragmatic. I hate the sound of his voice. IMO he'd be very good in a cabinet position for a Democratic POTUS.But he also strikes me as an arrogant prick and a pain in the ass. He has no loyalty to anyone but himself, and he will work with Republlicans in ways I cannot abide.

by Anonymousreply 29March 19, 2020 12:28 AM

Cuomo is good in bad situations. I know he personally handled a problem in my city with serious utility failures and it hasn't been a problem since (he did something to the electric company to shape them up in a hurry).

In other situations concerning safety he's performed the same -- always steps up and takes charge. There's something reassuring about it and he comes across as genuine when it comes to valuing NYers lives/ safety.

On a fed level though, the polarization of NYS policies wouldn't be so beloved, wanted, nor beneficial. When it works out, it works out well, but when they don't, it creates a burden on regular people. NYS policies often meets the definition of overreach and sometimes do more harm than good -- Cuomo is very much that way in how he operates. He easily drifts into authoritarian territory, that creates unnecessary, costly headaches for those just squeaking by.

by Anonymousreply 30March 19, 2020 12:37 AM

He looks like a genius compared to...well, you know who. And it has been very entertaining to watch them tangle. He is definitely growing on me.

by Anonymousreply 31March 19, 2020 12:41 AM

He's a capable career politician and he is clearly a Democrat.

But I don't ever want to see him naked.

by Anonymousreply 32March 19, 2020 12:51 AM

Another fan of Cuomo. But not sure he plays well on a national level. Biden is the most electable - because he’s the least forceful or offensive. Competency is clearly not a requirement for Presidency anymore.

by Anonymousreply 33March 19, 2020 12:52 AM

Everybody LOVED Rudy Giuliani for about 5 minutes after 9/11. "Good in a crisis" does not necessarily equal good on a day-to-day basis.

by Anonymousreply 34March 19, 2020 1:43 AM

Has OP seen Cuomo in an interview? He sounds like a typical arrogant New York prick. He didn’t run because he knew he would’ve done terribly. Joe Biden would’ve mowed him down just like he did all of these other candidates.

by Anonymousreply 35March 19, 2020 1:47 AM

That's exactly right, R34. He's been, at best, a mediocre governor, overall. That he's doing okay now is at least partially because he's being compared to Trump.

by Anonymousreply 36March 19, 2020 1:47 AM

oh who knows? oh who cares? he didn't. it's biden. Let's all get with the program of destroying Trump. TIA.

by Anonymousreply 37March 19, 2020 1:49 AM

Who is he dating now that he and Sandra lee are over?

by Anonymousreply 38March 19, 2020 2:24 AM

Hey, it’s all uncharted waters these days. And we are making up the rules as we go. Can’t we do a do over and switch out Biden for Cuomo?

by Anonymousreply 39March 19, 2020 2:46 AM

nobody can do anything. everyone shut up, and get with the goddamn program.

by Anonymousreply 40March 19, 2020 2:48 AM

and incidentally, while we are on the subject, YMF, stop being a goddamn asshole. this shit is locked down. We have had FUCKING SUFFICIENT.

Merci.

by Anonymousreply 41March 19, 2020 2:50 AM

R41 - seems unnecessary and excessive. I actually agreed with his post.

by Anonymousreply 42March 19, 2020 3:52 AM

the primaries are always over by super tuesday. We have strayed a long way as a nation from thinking about our president as an administrator. Cuomo might make a great administrator. Maybe in 2024 we will think of candidates that way. as for now, people just vote on who they think shares the same values on issues, whether or not that person could even get them implemented. After all, I share a lot of concerns with Bernie but dont think hed be a good president or get anything done.

by Anonymousreply 43March 19, 2020 4:02 AM

What did you agree with, R42? That Cuomo should’ve embarrassed himself by running for the nomination so he could drop out before winning a single state? Or do you think he might have won the nomination?

by Anonymousreply 44March 19, 2020 4:05 AM

I’m a New Yorker and even I’m over New Yorkers running for national office. I’ve voted for Cuomo because I would never vote republican or sit out an election, but I really despise him. Arrogant and corrupt and petty and thin skinned.

by Anonymousreply 45March 19, 2020 5:48 AM

Cuomo's bullheaded insistence on keeping his nasal Queens accent limits him severely. Outside of the Northeast, people are not primed to hear that. In the course one debate, the nation would grow tired of him.

by Anonymousreply 46March 19, 2020 12:11 PM

One of my senior staff worked in Cuomo’s office and confirmed what an arrogant nightmare he is. He is such a smug opportunist. He is all over national TV because as someone said upthread he hopes to use this as his starting block for national office. I don’t know anyone in NY who likes him, but he controls the party machine so we have been stuck voting for him.

by Anonymousreply 47March 19, 2020 12:57 PM

R46- Trump has a new york accent too.

by Anonymousreply 48March 19, 2020 1:00 PM

I can't stand the fact that he had the Tappan Zee Bridge renamed to THE MARIO CUOMO BRIDGE-YUCK!

by Anonymousreply 49March 19, 2020 1:01 PM

Still haven’t forgotten what he did to Andy Byford and the MTA. But only NYC dwellers would care about that.

by Anonymousreply 50March 19, 2020 1:03 PM

R50- I agree. Andy Byford was treated poorly, disrespectfully. Cuomo is a CREEP.

by Anonymousreply 51March 19, 2020 1:11 PM

Governors as a general rule are good for or at one thing in their term for the most part. In 2016 when the RI House and Senate passed marriage equality Governor Lincoln Chafee signed the bill on the steps of the RI State House. I was there. that was Governor Gumps good thing to do.

by Anonymousreply 52March 19, 2020 2:33 PM

Why the hell are CNN, MSNBC and even Fox carrying Gov Cuomo's daily briefings live, those of us not in NY don't give a shit about what Cuomo is doing. Your local stations can cover this crap, I am sure they aren't going to carry every news briefing from the Governors of Utah or Iowa or even California which is a larger state.

by Anonymousreply 53March 19, 2020 3:00 PM

[quote] I would give anything for another President from nice, sensible, Ohio.

Ohio ain't what it use to be honey, most of the Republicans are as racist as anyone you would get from the deep south and they are all bible-thumpers.

by Anonymousreply 54March 19, 2020 3:06 PM

he sounds tough like bernie without sounding bellicose

he sounds down to earth like biden without sounding added.

by Anonymousreply 55March 19, 2020 3:10 PM

addled that is

by Anonymousreply 56March 19, 2020 3:12 PM

Joe Biden would’ve gutted Cuomo the same way he did Bloomberg. Joe sounds addled? 10 million Democratic voters who went out and cast a vote for him so far probably beg to differ. Put Andy through the ringer like Joe on the national stage against a field of candidates and let’s see how he’d fare.

We’ve got our man, and he’s ready to carry us to victory in November.

by Anonymousreply 57March 19, 2020 3:20 PM

I agree with you, OP, but I also remember when Rudy took command after 9/11 and impressed us all with his leadership.

by Anonymousreply 58March 19, 2020 3:22 PM

Is he still with Sandra Lee?

by Anonymousreply 59March 19, 2020 3:27 PM

NOT all. Not if you were in New York City. The only reason why the City's Emergency Command Center was destroyed that day was because Giuliani INSISTED on putting it in the World Trade Center against the advice of all the experts. And that fact was pointed out far and wide on the day the towers came down. The attack was on the day of the primary election to select candidates to succeed Giuliani. The sonofabitch immediately moved to cancel elections and extend his term as Mayor, due to the emergency. A naked self-serving powergrab that was roundly denounced throughout the city.

Giuliani had long before outworn his welcome in New York City. After 9/11, he did nothing more than any mayor should do and he did a number of things NO ONE SHOULD HAVE DONE.

by Anonymousreply 60March 19, 2020 3:28 PM

he switched to sara lee

by Anonymousreply 61March 19, 2020 3:34 PM

R60 Thank you! I never knew that. To the rest of world (non-NYC), he was a gift from God.

What is your opinion about Andrew Cuomo?

by Anonymousreply 62March 19, 2020 3:34 PM

[quote] I'm no Chris Cuomo fan, but just the other night he was interviewing Andrew and Andrew called him, "Little brother..."

He also said “I talked to mom today and she said she likes me best. I’m her favorite son.” It’s schtick.

by Anonymousreply 63March 19, 2020 3:38 PM

he loved to go out all the time

by Anonymousreply 64March 19, 2020 5:40 PM

I am sure he is positioning himself to run for president in 4-8 years

by Anonymousreply 65March 19, 2020 6:50 PM

No, they broke up and sold the house they shared

by Anonymousreply 66March 19, 2020 6:51 PM

by Anonymousreply 67March 19, 2020 7:04 PM

I kind of like a NY accent

by Anonymousreply 68March 19, 2020 7:05 PM

He hates being upstate. I'm originally from Syracuse and he has to attend the great NY State Fair every year, I heard he acts like a complete prick every time he goes.

by Anonymousreply 69March 19, 2020 7:08 PM

R69 he acts like a complete prick every time he goes anywhere

by Anonymousreply 70March 19, 2020 9:14 PM

I'm too lazy to Google. Is it just him and Fredo or are there other siblings?

by Anonymousreply 71March 19, 2020 9:16 PM

Today he was being cranky screaming "why are people saying NYC will be in quarantine? Why are they saying lockdown?? Where are you getting these ideas/??"

Ummmmmm we're looking at Hoboken, Newark, SF etc. and seeing what they're doing. Why wouldn't we expect that?

PS Hi YMF! nice to see you again! Hope you are ok!

by Anonymousreply 72March 19, 2020 9:27 PM

Thank you Alex/R72

Are Hoboken and Newark on lockdown? I did not know that.

LOL at people mocking Cuomo's NY accent-- Trump's is just as bad and the Flyoverstanis love him. Funny thing too is Cuomo and Trump grew up about a mile or two away from each other, though Trump is about 10 years older. Cuomo also looks damn good for 62-- he is actually the same age as Tom Steyer, who looks much older.

And any enemy of Warren Wilhelm Junior is a friend of mine.

by Anonymousreply 73March 19, 2020 9:32 PM

R73 Tom Steyer looks great! I have no idea how old he is but he's slim, trim, masculine and I'd do him in a heartbeat.

by Anonymousreply 74March 19, 2020 9:39 PM

R73 I hate Warren Wilhelm and I'm glad Cuomo does too, but this morning he seemed a little unhinged.

Hoboken closed all their restaurants and bars days ago, and last night I think Newark went on 8pm curfew.

by Anonymousreply 75March 19, 2020 9:42 PM

He’s got a big Italian dick.

by Anonymousreply 76March 19, 2020 9:44 PM

He’s doing a great job right now no doubt. The stay in place thing is bullshit and it’s just DeBlasio trying to make noise and score some points. He gives us the straight information but is also a calming force at the same time. That’s what leadership is.

Also, why say “career politician “ or technocrat like it’s an insult? We’ve tried the other way and it never fucking works. A career politician knows what the fuck they’re doing.

But I don’t think any NY politician Will ever succeed in running for President — not a Jewish or Italian one, anyway. We’ll elect a black (Obviously) or even a woman before a New York “ethnic.” Will never happen in our lifetimes.

by Anonymousreply 77March 19, 2020 10:35 PM

I agree with R30 and R31, he's smart and savvy in a New York way.

I agree that Governor Cuomo is good at taking charge, in demonstrating leadership, speaking clearly and fighting for disenfranchised groups. I'd vote for him again as Governor of New York (or as Senator). I think he'd be great and productive in a cabinet position.

That being said, Governor Andrew Cuomo is a real New Yorker, I am too, New Yorkers are great under pressure and on the East Coast, being strong and street smart, however, sometimes we're not the most diplomatic at a national level. Sometimes we don't know when to ease off.

by Anonymousreply 78March 20, 2020 12:15 AM

Middle America isn't going to go for Cuomo for president. New York Italians who sound like mafiosos are completely unpalatable to the rest of the country.

by Anonymousreply 79March 20, 2020 12:29 AM

As opposed to New York German-Americans who sound AND ACT like [SIC] mafiosos R79?

by Anonymousreply 80March 20, 2020 12:32 AM

This thread is about Cuomo r80. He's too New York and too Italian to be palatable to Lurleen Lumpkin in Bumfuckeville, Missouri.

by Anonymousreply 81March 20, 2020 12:34 AM

And he’s an asshole

by Anonymousreply 82March 20, 2020 1:06 AM

I didn't see his press conference today but a friend told me he looked high and sounded deranged. "Better than Bill de B" is not a high bar to clear and does not mean he's doing a bang-up job of dealing with COVID-19.

by Anonymousreply 83March 20, 2020 4:38 AM

AC should have run in 2016; but the field was cleared by DNC for the anointed Queen Hillary Clinton. That and despite his early progressive sucesses as governor of New York (getting SSM passed, etc...) there were a few things people didn't like. So much so DNC was putting out the word "A-B-C" (Anyone But Cuomo). They didn't even want him around at the national convention.

Mr. Cuomo has already begun raising boat loads of money to run for a fourth term in 2022. I personally am stick to death of the guy and think many New Yorkers will want a change. For god sake eight years was enough, twelve too much but sixteen?

Cuomo wouldn't run this year for same reason many other democrats who would have made excellent candidates and POTUS didn't; it is historically very difficult to unseat an incumbent POTUS. Has only happened a handful of times in US history, and why bother? Better to keep one's powder dry and run when current president is term limited out of office leaving a clear field. This more so since vice-presidents in this country no longer seem interested in running for top spot. Yes, know about Biden, but he waited four years after Obama left.

by Anonymousreply 84March 20, 2020 5:18 AM

R84 who would you rather see as governor?

by Anonymousreply 85March 20, 2020 5:34 AM

At this point would take Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck!

Am just so tired of the sound of AC's voice, and one can't get away from it either. Like the father AC is bit too much in love with himself and sound of his own voice.

One really had hopes AC would do what he promised his first term; clean up the cesspool that is Albany, but that never happened. Instead it's just same ole system of backroom deals, pandering to unions, etc..

Actually really had high hopes for Elliot Spitzer, and wished he didn't step down, or would run again. Know it is impossible now, but still felt he would have made a great governor.

Think Preetinder Singh Bharara has makings of a good governor; but won't run and can't say I blame him.

by Anonymousreply 86March 20, 2020 5:49 AM

Is Andrew Cuomo dating anyone? I know I have Coronavirus goggles...

by Anonymousreply 87March 20, 2020 11:15 AM

"Ummmmmm we're looking at Hoboken, Newark, SF etc. and seeing what they're doing. Why wouldn't we expect that?"

Well he does have a point that a shelter in place/lockdown order only makes sense if CT, NY, NJ, PA etc. all agree to do it at the same time. Otherwise half of Manhattan would flee the city and spread the virus to all the surrounding states immediately.

by Anonymousreply 88March 20, 2020 1:33 PM

A shelter in place order comes with a built-in exemption for all medical personnel, all police, National Guard members, people who work in television, radio, grocery stores, pharmacies, a large assortment of government officials and workers, and a host of others.

So what's the point? The kind of isolation some people envision is never, ever, going to be possible.

If you're old or infirm, absolutely stay the fuck indoors.

by Anonymousreply 89March 20, 2020 1:40 PM

I like him, and those who call him an asshole, he's nothing compared to the dumpster fire we now have

by Anonymousreply 90March 20, 2020 2:54 PM

I watch him because he is entertaining in a grotesque way. He is also informative. He explains what we're facing all over this country without a uniform approach coming from the federal gov't. States are all doing their own thing and some are doing it very poorly. When Cuomo illustrates the problem with hard numbers it really brings it home.

When you are facing more than 110,000 victims and you only have 50,000 hospital beds and only 3,000 ventilators, and you understand that aside from corona you also have regular sick people needing acute care, that's a catastrophe. And first responders, medical workers, doctors, etc. all running our of basics like gloves and masks is downright shameful.

I don't like Andrew Cuomo. But I don't mind watching him. He'll never be anything more than a governor. Or a cabinet secretary.

by Anonymousreply 91March 20, 2020 4:02 PM

he seems okay to me

by Anonymousreply 92March 20, 2020 5:27 PM

by Anonymousreply 95March 20, 2020 11:37 PM

DAM DAMN DAMMN

by Anonymousreply 96March 21, 2020 12:23 PM

Will there be "Cuomo Time" on Saturday and Sunday?

by Anonymousreply 97March 21, 2020 1:37 PM

Both Andrew & Chris are assholes, each in their own way. Andrew is an overbearing, sanctimonious, arrogant bully. Chris is an insecure, arrogant bully.

by Anonymousreply 98March 21, 2020 1:40 PM

Chris is definitely Andrew's bottom bitch.

by Anonymousreply 99March 21, 2020 2:07 PM

I wonder of Chris has any body hair?

by Anonymousreply 100March 21, 2020 2:09 PM

he's a hairy mary

by Anonymousreply 101March 21, 2020 2:41 PM

The New Yawk governah is on TV right now. I agree with whoever said its overkill for CNN to televise his entire press conference, like the whole country lives in New York.

by Anonymousreply 102March 21, 2020 3:10 PM

Cuomo Time. Daddy is wearing a governor polo shirt.

by Anonymousreply 103March 21, 2020 3:13 PM

Maybe the Democratic party will DUMP Biden the last minute and try to put CUOMO on the ticket.

by Anonymousreply 104March 21, 2020 3:54 PM

Biden has almost been invisible these last two weeks.

by Anonymousreply 105March 21, 2020 3:59 PM

He is fucking killing it this week. He knows all eyes are on him and is stepping up to it.

The Cuomo brothers are pugnacious, boisterous, stubborn New Yorkers to the core, like Trump is. Trump's aggressiveness plays really well to his core constituency: disenfranchised white people on the right who are at the core haters. Bernie is also of this ilk, and his pugnaciousness plays really well to HIS crowd: also mostly disenfranchised white men who feel the current system has passed them by, and Gebneration Zers who despair of a future.

But the Cuomo brothers are politically moderate Democrats, and outside of new York, that kind of hyperaggressiveness plays really badly. I hadf to turn off the TV the other day because Chris Cuomo (the handsomer and more telegenic of the two) was literally shouting the news about Gavin newsom's stay-at-home order for California; I vowed I would not watch him any more during this crisis. I recognize there is a place for Chris Cuomo on CNN because some people love that aggression, but I do not.

Andrew has had a weird time as governor. He has got tons of things done, because he's smart and he's a bully, but he's also much disliked in Albany because of his hyperaggressiveness. He would be better as a senator for new York than as a governor, and I expect that's where he'll go in the future.

Outside of New York (and New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island), hyperaggressiveness is a trait only valued by those who feel so disenfranchised they want someone to scream "Fuck You!" for them to the rest of the world. That's what Trump has done and what Bernie was doing. But I don't think centrist Democrats really want that.

by Anonymousreply 107March 21, 2020 4:11 PM

I just watched Andrew Cuomo's news conference. I like him - he gives the facts, he sticks to the script, he gives his opinion, he gives a little pep talk and he talks about social responsibility. Every state needs a leader like him.

by Anonymousreply 108March 21, 2020 4:29 PM

R102 - they cover his news conferences because he's stepping up to the plate in a time when the country needs leadership. He's Governor of the state which is suffering the most so what he says matters for EVERYONE. Your state may be next. His hyper aggressive nature gets things done. Do you think if he was a wuss, he would have got Trump to declare NY a national disaster? He probably hounded him daily for assistance and Trump caved.

by Anonymousreply 109March 21, 2020 4:37 PM

Cuomo? Has that masculine energy we are looking for in our leaders, particularly right now. Hillary had it and was hated for it. Dump Truck does NOT have it but he speaks their language and knows how to manipulate their little minds and base fears.

by Anonymousreply 110March 21, 2020 4:54 PM

This meme is so true.

FWIW, #CuomoForPresident is trending on Twitter right now.

So I am not the only one noticing this.

by Anonymousreply 112March 21, 2020 5:55 PM

I’m noticing a lot these days

by Anonymousreply 113March 21, 2020 6:27 PM

Cuomo's girlfriend Sandra Lee made a Corona quarantine cake. It's made with angel's food cake, canned apple pie filling and pine nuts. I can't wait to try it.

R114, that looks fucking AWFUL!

No wonder he moved on. Eccchhh.

by Anonymousreply 115March 21, 2020 6:37 PM

A New York Italian who looks and talks like a mafioso doesn't have a chance in fucking hell of becoming president of the United States.

by Anonymousreply 116March 21, 2020 7:14 PM

So does Chris wax or shave his chest?

by Anonymousreply 117March 21, 2020 7:17 PM

[quote] So I am not the only one noticing this.

No one ever said you were the ONLY stupid person in the state/country.

by Anonymousreply 118March 21, 2020 8:19 PM

R116- Trump says things like GRAB HER BY THE PUSSY and he's elected POTUS, Cuomo can certainly become POTUS.

by Anonymousreply 119March 22, 2020 1:14 AM

Two days after marriage equality became legal in New York State, Governor Andrew Cuomo and Sandra Lee marched at Pride in Manhattan. Not many governors do that. Governor Cuomo fought for us.

by Anonymousreply 120March 22, 2020 2:30 AM

sexy muscles

by Anonymousreply 121March 22, 2020 4:04 AM

A certain DLer does not like NY Italians.

by Anonymousreply 122March 22, 2020 10:53 AM

Does anyone know if The Gov is holding a press conference today (Sunday) or is he taking some time off? If yes, is it at his regular time of 11:00 am?

by Anonymousreply 123March 22, 2020 1:47 PM

Watching Cuomo now. He's done well, but he is showboating at this point.

by Anonymousreply 124March 22, 2020 3:47 PM

good

by Anonymousreply 125March 22, 2020 3:50 PM

Cuomo works on Sunday too. Another stellar press conference. He wants the Federal government to INVOKE the war act (not just sign it, Orange Stupid) so that every state can get the protective equipment they need. If there is competition between the states then there will be price gouging (eg. face masks usually cost 85 cents. If I remember correctly, they were $4 yesterday and today they've gone up to $7). If the government releases their stockpile and orders companies to produce more equipment, it would stop the greediness.

by Anonymousreply 126March 22, 2020 4:25 PM

R126 we’re doing more than our share of sacrificing — now it’s time for the Federal government to pull their weight.

The next steps should indeed be coming from them, not asking even more of us. The economy is already sufficiently decimated.

by Anonymousreply 127March 22, 2020 8:40 PM

He's been a very good leader during this crisis, but everyone on the #CuomoForPresident bandwagon needs to pump their breaks. Cuomo is one of the most corrupt governors the state of NY has ever had. Trust me, if he ever runs (we guess he'll do it in 2024) so much dirt will come out about this man it'll probably tank his candidacy.

by Anonymousreply 128March 22, 2020 8:46 PM

Didn't Giuliani also think that handling a New York crisis competently would propel him to the Presidency?

by Anonymousreply 129March 22, 2020 11:47 PM

Rudy ran for president in 2008, so whatever luster he'd had from 9/11 was fading hard at that point.

He was running for the Senate seat that She eventually won, but dropped out when he learned he had cancer.

The GOP was forced to run a no-name second-tier candidate, which is pretty much how She won, setting off a chain of events that led to the Trump presidency.

by Anonymousreply 130March 22, 2020 11:59 PM

Well yeah R130 but people upthread are saying he's positioning himself for 2024/2028, by which time as you say this will have been forgotten (hopefully).

by Anonymousreply 131March 23, 2020 12:01 AM

He’s an asshole!

by Anonymousreply 132March 23, 2020 12:02 AM

But he’s a good asshole.

by Anonymousreply 133March 23, 2020 1:22 AM

Well, the "Asshole" got Trump to give him pretty well everything for the state of NY that he asked for. We need more "Assholes" like Gov. Cuomo for our leaders.

by Anonymousreply 134March 23, 2020 1:46 PM

Indeed - my hunch is that Cuomo has dirt on dump

by Anonymousreply 135March 23, 2020 1:55 PM

Trump has years and years of business dealings in New York State. Andrew Cuomo has all the evidence. He just has to deploy the forensic accountants. Or not. If you get my drift.

by Anonymousreply 136March 23, 2020 2:51 PM

Why isn't YourMillennialCunt signing his posts anymore.

He's the OP of this thread.

by Anonymousreply 137March 23, 2020 3:34 PM

He is seriously saying this lockdown will last 4, 6, 9 months? There won’t be a single person left that has a job.

This is max sustainable for 2-4 weeks before the world truly implodes. We can flatten the curve but it’s here and we just have to deal with it.

Im glad he’s taken the initiative to push the Fed Government to get us the supplies we need, no doubt he’s the type of leader we needed all along so it didn’t come to this, but that’s absolute lunacy (and suicide) if true. The cure can’t be that much worse than the disease.

by Anonymousreply 138March 23, 2020 5:59 PM

He said it could last that long, but he's also already working on a plan to get people back to work as soon as possible without risking their health. You obviously did not see the whole press conference. So chill.

by Anonymousreply 139March 23, 2020 6:04 PM

We'll have to make a decision soon. This work stoppage is unsustainable for months on end.

by Anonymousreply 140March 23, 2020 6:10 PM

[quote]This is max sustainable for 2-4 weeks before the world truly implodes.

look to italy, my dear

by Anonymousreply 141March 23, 2020 6:12 PM

R139 apologies, it is I think the one conference I missed out on (I need to take a break from this shit sometimes), but I certainly hope he can figure something out. Maybe some of the “non-essential” businesses can reopen but have very strict, enforceable capacity restrictions (ie 1/2, 1/3 capacity things like that). And maybe even some others, I’m thinking places like hair, beauty salons, will have to continue by appointment only. Bailouts and government help will still be needed though even if things like that get implemented say 3-5 weeks from now, because the damage is already done.

But what we’re doing now — while short term necessary — is not even remotely sustainable.

by Anonymousreply 142March 23, 2020 6:21 PM

Any demo looks presidential compared to the orange cancer.

by Anonymousreply 143March 23, 2020 6:25 PM

[quote] But what we’re doing now — while short term necessary — is not even remotely sustainable.

Agreed.

I think this guy's proposal is much more sane than what we are doing now, not that it's going to happen.

Uhhhh.... if people are dropping dead left and right, then NO ONE is going to go back to work.

Until there is either a cure, or at least an effective treatment, then all the officials can do is try to slow the spread. All they can hope for at this moment is not have more people sick at any one time than our fucked up healthcare system can hope to treat.

If you think having businesses closed is disruptive, then think about Lombardy right now. Dead bodies locked into apartments because they haven't the coffins or the time to bury all of them. That's not going to get the family back to Pizza Hut. It just won't.

by Anonymousreply 145March 23, 2020 6:33 PM

Indeed - my hunch is that Cuomo has dirt on dump

I was kind of thinking that too; Cuomo just seems like the kind of guy Dump would loathe and mercilessly attack via twitter (sort of like Newsom), yet his response has been muted; Cuomo may be the arrogant tool everyone says he is, but I'd love it if he's got dirt on Dump he's prepared to use.

Already my employer is talking furloughs; I know I'm luckier than most & have leave I can use, but at times I feel genuinely scared about how quickly things are unraveling with no end in sight. I'm considering asking my landlord if I can pay 50% of rent this month before I get to the point that I can't afford to any rent. At this point, I wouldn't mind getting the virus & just dying out right.

by Anonymousreply 146March 23, 2020 6:33 PM

ugh, honey, don't say that

by Anonymousreply 147March 23, 2020 6:42 PM

R145 dropping dead “left and right!” Dramatic much?? Geez.

by Anonymousreply 148March 23, 2020 7:13 PM

r148 has zero clues about how much the shit is going to hit the fan.

by Anonymousreply 149March 23, 2020 7:46 PM

The Gays.

They sure loves they drama.

by Anonymousreply 150March 23, 2020 9:06 PM

R148, in Italy 651 people died of coronavirus on Sunday. That followed 793 on Saturday and 627 on Friday. That’s left and right to me.

Think of it as one of our mass shootings. 651 shot dead on Sunday, 793 shot dead on Saturday, 627 shot dead on Friday. That’s left and right to me.

by Anonymousreply 151March 23, 2020 9:25 PM

Not trying to trivialize this, but how many people die on a regular day? Must be a couple thousands each day, no?

by Anonymousreply 152March 23, 2020 10:02 PM

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were 2,813,503 registered deaths in the United States in 2017.

So these are bonus deaths, as it were. Above the norm.

by Anonymousreply 155March 23, 2020 10:32 PM

About .01 percent of Italy's total population has died from CV. That's not small, but it's not "left and right," either.

by Anonymousreply 156March 23, 2020 10:43 PM

R156, at the rate they are currently dying in Italy, there soon won't be anyone left. Right?

by Anonymousreply 157March 24, 2020 12:35 AM

Two Cuomos on CNN right now. Andrew Cuomo calls him Christopher.

by Anonymousreply 158March 24, 2020 1:12 AM

Haha Chris just interrupted Andrew for a commercial break and Andrew wasn't happy!
