I looked up to him for decades. He was one of the few gay icons out there when I first came out (in the mid-90s). I watched the show religiously for a few years (starting with Season 3).. I stopped watching regularly about six years ago. I would check in here and there, but pretty much stopped the last three years. I was burnt out, I guess. The show didn't really appeal to me anymore. But, it was also feeling derivative.
When I heard about the fracking, it was disappointing. It's like, oh, he's like most everyone else, especially at the top: insatiable appetite for money and power. How much is enough FFS? Like, was this another case of Ellen, where they hold on way after their expiry date and word gets out about the true colours of someone once celebrated (In this case, FROM HIS OWN MOUTH)? Also, side-note, Terry Gross, why were you sleeping on the job?
Did he honestly not care that he was part of the problem?
There are plenty of bad people out there. But, this one just stings a bit more. How do others reconcile this? I still want to remember his inspiring story and he did have smart and good advice. I just hate this new lens I view him through now, which is impossible not to.
Did AOC even call RuPaul out? She was on his show last month (post-Terry Gross) and had put out a bill forward against fracking.
