Is Interracial Dating Still Taboo In The US?

It seemed to still be up through the 90s.

by Anonymousreply 47March 24, 2020 9:59 PM

No.

by Anonymousreply 1March 15, 2020 8:24 AM

It's taboo for some of the black posters on DL.

by Anonymousreply 2March 15, 2020 8:32 AM

It's taboo for some and not for others, OP.

by Anonymousreply 3March 15, 2020 8:37 AM

don't do it in the South. you will get very nasty looks from all sides.

by Anonymousreply 4March 15, 2020 8:55 AM

It took a hit with Nicole and OJ Simpson.

by Anonymousreply 5March 15, 2020 9:14 AM

As of 2017, about 17% of couples getting married in America were "interracial"

Do you agree with him?

Yes it is a huge stigma. Datalongue is full of racist so they don’t care. They’d just as soon as call a Black person an ape.

by Anonymousreply 8March 15, 2020 10:49 AM

R8: To be totally fair, that football player who came out and had a white boyfriend received a lot of hate and it wasn't from white people.

there are narrow minded people everywhere

by Anonymousreply 9March 15, 2020 11:06 AM

r9 STFU you dumb cunt.

by Anonymousreply 10March 15, 2020 11:13 AM

It depends on the location.

by Anonymousreply 11March 15, 2020 11:23 AM

It is spring break on South West Florida beaches. The young hard bodies are everywhere.

My husband and I were at a local family beach with friends. Children playing in the water, parents building sand castles with their kids, etc. Next to our group, there was an college age group that had an interracial couple.

Also, In the past, I have seen two guys kissing in plain sight of the rest of the people on that beach. Others hold hands and stroll down the beach.

While there are plenty of racist red neck deplorables with big black pickup trucks here, its not as bad as the past.

by Anonymousreply 12March 15, 2020 11:51 AM

[quote]As of 2017, about 17% of couples getting married in America were "interracial"

That number includes people who are actually of the same race, but are of different ethnicities. Interracial would be a lot smaller.

by Anonymousreply 13March 15, 2020 11:54 AM

Well the Kardasians helped alot in making it less of a taboo.

by Anonymousreply 14March 15, 2020 11:57 AM

I don't think so. But it depends on the area . I get the feeling it's made of a taboo in Australia. They don't seem to have many mixed individuals at all. Then again, they're a more homogeneous society I suppose.

by Anonymousreply 15March 15, 2020 12:00 PM

Edit :More of a taboo

by Anonymousreply 16March 15, 2020 12:01 PM

I have a straight interracial couple friends. When they lived in Atlanta, they endured lots of looks and comments. When they moved to NYC, no one cared

by Anonymousreply 17March 15, 2020 12:05 PM

Are we talking about rice queens?

by Anonymousreply 18March 15, 2020 12:18 PM

If you go by tv commercials 75 percent of couples are interracial.

by Anonymousreply 19March 15, 2020 12:19 PM

No it doesn't r13, unless you are referring to hispanic people being counted as their own race in that poll.

It basically breaks it down to white, black, asian, mixed race, hispanic. How many couples getting married fall into different categories, and the answer Pew found was 17%.

I don't understand what you are talking about with multi-ethnic, an Irish-American and a German-American are not considered an interracial couple.

by Anonymousreply 20March 15, 2020 12:41 PM

In the United States, the image of interracial dating of that of blacks and whites getting together. It's less scandalous when it's between whites and asians, and barely noticeable when it involves whites and latinos (with the exception of those with strong indigenous or african features).

So, in the US, it's still problematic when whites date those who are too brown, especially african brown.

by Anonymousreply 21March 15, 2020 1:23 PM

Have you seen 16 and Pregnant? Seems like every white trash teenage girl in rural America wants a black boyfriend. Seems more common than in upper middle class areas.

by Anonymousreply 22March 15, 2020 1:42 PM

That's right, R22. Staying "in the race" is something rich white people do - like marriage.

The rest of us just fall for who we fall for.

by Anonymousreply 23March 15, 2020 1:52 PM

I think segregation is better. We hate black people, black people hate us, we will never get along... Why on earth can't we just separate? Blacks can have America, I don't care. I would gladly return to Europe. The government should to something, this whole multicultural and race war bullshit is annoying.

by Anonymousreply 24March 15, 2020 2:42 PM

Hells bells, I'm in the south. We're past the interracial thing and now even moving in on partner swapping, throuples, etc. very interesting.

by Anonymousreply 25March 15, 2020 2:54 PM

It’s normal in my book. I don’t understand the taboo

by Anonymousreply 26March 15, 2020 3:12 PM

Only in the gay “community”.

by Anonymousreply 27March 15, 2020 3:18 PM

R19 is right - US TV ads in the past 12 months have had a huge increase in inter-racial couples. You almost never see same race couples anymore.

Not that there's anything wrong with it - but it does feel forced and over-represented.

And a massive increase of white guys with black wives, which could be on trend. I knew three black women at my last job with white husbands.

by Anonymousreply 28March 15, 2020 3:24 PM

But, the children are beautiful though!

by Anonymousreply 29March 15, 2020 3:35 PM

R8 is a race baiter who cannot STAND the thought of an interracial society. How else will R8 get to scapegoat his self-hatred and inability to take responsibility for her own life into a 400-year-old grudge against racist white people if they're marrying blacks??! Tell me how, DL?!?

by Anonymousreply 30March 15, 2020 3:58 PM

And I don't know what it is but I get more interest from black guys than white guys. And I'm fine with that. I mean really here I am 55 years old and just two weeks ago was fucking a cute black guy. And I've always loved my black brothers. Always.

And most of the folks on grindr and the apps woof or poke me - they're black guys when I'm clearly white, well Mediterranean. And if I look at my DNA I've got all sorts of interesting ancestry - even a little bit of North African .

by Anonymousreply 31March 15, 2020 4:18 PM

R4 Interracial dating is quite common in today's South. We had interracial couples at our Prom in 2002 and no one batted an eye.

by Anonymousreply 32March 15, 2020 4:25 PM

Not really. However, I will say that in my experience it has been mainly black people that have reacted negatively to me when I’ve dated black guys.

by Anonymousreply 33March 15, 2020 7:57 PM

I have seen more white guy/black chick couples in the last few years than ever. I live in a blue southern city with lots of millennials and it's been a nice surprise. You would always see white guy/Asian chick or white guy/Latin chick pairings. I was just at Whole Foods and saw three white guy/black chick couples.

by Anonymousreply 34March 15, 2020 8:02 PM

For the cynics.

by Anonymousreply 35March 15, 2020 8:44 PM

^ Couldn't find the video anywhere but an adult site, even though it's not porn. Anyone know this couple? Warms my cynical middle-aged heart.

by Anonymousreply 36March 15, 2020 8:47 PM

Not according to half the couples in TV commercials OP

by Anonymousreply 37March 15, 2020 9:50 PM

r22 Yes, you’ve proven that it’s not a stigma. Only trashy White women would ever want a Black man. That’s not a stigma at all. Filthy faggot

by Anonymousreply 38March 16, 2020 8:58 AM

r34 Only Black trash would ever want to be with a White man. Doesn’t it work the same way as r22 described?

by Anonymousreply 39March 16, 2020 8:59 AM

r30 Datalounge is racist and likes to describe Blacks as talking apes. You can fuck off. I’m not a woman and my life is perfectly nice. I grew up in a middle class neighborhood, graduated #1 in my class at a majority White high school, and I am a student a prestigious university. I don’t hate my life because a racist prick thinks all Black people where raised in the ghettos. KYS.

by Anonymousreply 40March 16, 2020 9:02 AM

r30 I don’t have a grudge but your comment doesn’t even make sense. Did Jim Crow end over 400 years ago? Did Slavery even end 400 years? Fuck off dumbass. What does fucking someone have to do with anything? Slave masters raped their slaves all the time. I don’t mean you see someone as human and equal.

by Anonymousreply 41March 16, 2020 9:05 AM

It depends one what you're asking, to be honest. In terms of general public acceptance, we know better than to stigmatize it (thankfully). But in a person's particular circle (family and friends), there's still a wide range of reactions. I first started seeing my BF back in the early 80s (I'm white, he's black) and it would be difficult to determine how much of the hostility we faced was because we're gay versus the interracial factor. The racial stigma was obvious among other gays, sadly. My own immediate family's reaction was largely generational: my brother and sister never had a problem, while my parents showed, if anything, a bit of insecurity, since they were very sheltered. They just didn't want to risk offending him, but they liked each other. I don't think my cousins, though, would be so accepting.

by Anonymousreply 42March 16, 2020 9:27 AM

Face it. "Interracial" only applies to Black people intermarrying with other races. There's never an issue with White-Asian, White-Latino or White-Arab marriages. It's only when you add a Black (usaually) man to it that it becomes controversial. The world is still racist as fuck.

by Anonymousreply 43March 16, 2020 2:21 PM

Waaaah!!

by Anonymousreply 44March 21, 2020 6:40 PM

Interesting statistics - 1. one in three black men 20-29 was either in prison or on parole according to one study.

2.25%of young black women identify as lesbian or bisexual.

by Anonymousreply 45March 21, 2020 7:40 PM

It is for r8.

by Anonymousreply 46March 24, 2020 9:57 PM

Lot of Asian/White marriage in the California hetero world.
