NOT BETTY WINDSOR!

WHEN WILL THE TEARS END?????

by Anonymousreply 1March 14, 2020 11:28 PM

It would be GHASTLY if she died of it.

by Anonymousreply 2March 14, 2020 11:29 PM

She's probably been exposed and is going into quarantine for that reason. This announcement is just to obscure the truth.

by Anonymousreply 3March 14, 2020 11:30 PM

He's probably at Sandringham... he basically lives there.

by Anonymousreply 4March 14, 2020 11:31 PM

Sandringham. is just like quarantine!

by Anonymousreply 5March 14, 2020 11:32 PM

Po Bay-triss. At this rate she'd be lucky for a special day at Pizza Express in Woking.

(Did she pack all her jewels?)

by Anonymousreply 7March 14, 2020 11:34 PM

Damn, that girl in r6 is fug - - she needs to keep her mouth shut, cuz the rabid rabbit teeth are menacing!

by Anonymousreply 8March 14, 2020 11:36 PM

Prudent planning. Buck Palace is teeming with staff. Long live the Queen!

by Anonymousreply 9March 14, 2020 11:36 PM

Imagine being stuck in a house with Prince Philip. Even a mansion would be too small.

by Anonymousreply 10March 14, 2020 11:37 PM

The Queen is a tough old broad. I expect she'll be fine.

by Anonymousreply 11March 14, 2020 11:38 PM

The story is a bit alarmist. She usually leaves BP Thursdays after lunch and goes to Windsor for the weekend. She also stays at length around Easter.

by Anonymousreply 12March 14, 2020 11:39 PM

HMQEII is in her 90s. She should have minimized contact with people weeks ago, and everyone with sense will wish her a pleasant self-quarantine.

This is actually a bit harder on Charles, whose job it is to pick up the slack. But he's seventy years old and not in the best of health, but doesn't want to admit it. He's sensibly cancelled public engagements, but he'll probably try to look fearless and in charge when he should be protecting himself, and put himself at more risk than he ought.

by Anonymousreply 13March 14, 2020 11:39 PM

They still fuck, R10. Hard.

by Anonymousreply 14March 14, 2020 11:40 PM

Good. That old cunt of a welfare queen has been stinking up the joint for far too long. Stupid kraut.

by Anonymousreply 15March 14, 2020 11:42 PM

À bétôt, vilain païsan!

by Anonymousreply 16March 14, 2020 11:43 PM

Don’t forget the booze!

by Anonymousreply 17March 14, 2020 11:43 PM

Betty's a hip old girl, she'd right on trend with the social-distancing.

by Anonymousreply 18March 14, 2020 11:46 PM

Why is Windsor Castle considered ‘safer’ than Buckingham Palace?

by Anonymousreply 19March 14, 2020 11:50 PM

Thanks for that mental picture, R14

by Anonymousreply 20March 14, 2020 11:53 PM

The Queen goes to Windsor every Thursday afternoon and comes back to Buckingham Palace on Tuesday - Always has.

The only exceptions are Easter, Ascot week, her 10 week summer holiday at Balmoral and her 7 week Christmas holiday at Sandringham, when she doesn't go to the Palace at all.

by Anonymousreply 21March 14, 2020 11:54 PM

R19... I'd guess because BP is head office... more people in and out. Also, it's a bit of a building site right now as it's basically falling down. I suppose if A comes for a meeting with B, who later passes C, D and E in the corridors... spread and a 94 year old Queen. There's still loads of people at Windsor, but less than BP.

by Anonymousreply 22March 14, 2020 11:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 24March 15, 2020 12:02 AM

I just hope she was careful wiping off the handles of her shopping cart the last time she went to stock up at Costco.

by Anonymousreply 25March 15, 2020 12:02 AM

I hope it wipes out Prince Andrew

by Anonymousreply 26March 15, 2020 12:14 AM

Don’t give a shit about the rest of her family.

by Anonymousreply 29March 15, 2020 1:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 30March 15, 2020 2:00 AM

[quote]She's 93. She's not got that much longer to go.

But to live 93 years and reign 68 years to then get knocked out by some foreign virus is too awful to imagine.

by Anonymousreply 32March 15, 2020 2:16 AM

She has smoker’s lines around her mouth.

Risk factor...

by Anonymousreply 33March 15, 2020 2:22 AM

[quote]It would be GHASTLY if she died of it.

Not necessarily. It depends on how one looks at it.

[quote] Imagine being stuck in a house with Prince Philip.

And Harry and Meghan got so much grief over not bringing their young baby to England last week

by Anonymousreply 36March 15, 2020 2:39 AM

I think they got grief about bringing themselves over to England last week but no matter, they've gone off now to the obscurity they crave.

by Anonymousreply 37March 15, 2020 2:42 AM

[quote]And Harry and Meghan got so much grief over not bringing their young baby to England last week

It was ridiculous.

She did the right thing.

by Anonymousreply 38March 15, 2020 3:32 AM

[quote]I think they got grief about bringing themselves over to England last week but no matter

I think they were generally well received. All those flattering photos of her...apart from the ones in church, with Kate all sour faced.

by Anonymousreply 39March 15, 2020 3:34 AM

[quote] She has smoker’s lines around her mouth.

She doesn't have smoker's lines because it is well known that the Queen doesn't smoke. After watching most of her family's health problems associated with smoking, especially her father, she never took up the habit. It was always remarked upon because it was unusual for a person of her age and social group.

by Anonymousreply 42March 15, 2020 3:55 AM

It makes sense to move them to the country. At Windsor or Sandringham not only can she and Phillip be isolated but so can their staff, to stop the chance of infection. Buckingham Palace is in the middle of the city and it is therefore much harder to isolate.

by Anonymousreply 43March 15, 2020 4:06 AM

[R32]: "But to live 93 years and reign 68 years to then get knocked out by some foreign virus is too awful to imagine."

by Anonymousreply 56March 15, 2020 2:39 PM

The Telegraph says this morning she will now not be staying at Windsor and will return to BP as usual.

by Anonymousreply 57March 15, 2020 3:17 PM

Wouldn’t it be delicious if Betty Windsor were a secret smoker? I am, and NOBODY knows except my husband and one neighbor.

by Anonymousreply 58March 15, 2020 3:22 PM

What’s her smoking got to do with it?

by Anonymousreply 59March 15, 2020 3:29 PM

r40's article states that the Queen Mother smoked, which I don't believe is true. God knows she drank like a fish, but I've never heard that she smoked.

by Anonymousreply 60March 15, 2020 3:32 PM

The book about Andre Tallon claimed she was a smoker, but I know many said that (among other things) was not true.

by Anonymousreply 61March 15, 2020 3:35 PM

She smokes! Look at the lines around her mouth.

by Anonymousreply 62March 15, 2020 3:42 PM

I cannot believe she is almost 94, does all she does, and smokes. Given the family history with smoking - Queen Mary, lung cancer; George VI, lung cancer; Duke of Windsor, throat cancer; Edward VII and George V both suffered from smoking if it didn't kill them, which is probably did. Anyway, smoking and the Windsors don't equal dying in bed of old age, so it seems highly unlikely to me the Queen or the Queen Mother do/did.

by Anonymousreply 63March 15, 2020 3:42 PM

R60 Yes, The Queen Mother was known to smoke. But, according to reports she was not a heavy smoker, around four a day.

by Anonymousreply 64March 15, 2020 3:44 PM

How DARE she look old!

by Anonymousreply 65March 15, 2020 3:46 PM

by Anonymousreply 78March 15, 2020 6:09 PM

R50, as for Boris Johnson, he was legally elected so the Queen had no choice but to ask him to form a government, as per the British constitution. As for Trump, if the government wants her to receive him, she is required to receive him. If you think she has choices in these matters, you are mistaken. It's the way the British constitution works. riti

by Anonymousreply 83March 15, 2020 9:02 PM

R81, while it is true she has had a comfortable life funded by the taxpayers, she has also played the constitutional role she was assigned (i.e., did not ask for) for over sixty years. A few days after the London bombing some years ago, I saw the Queen and Prince Philip riding up the Mall (the street leading to Buckingham Palace) ever so slowly in a parade honoring an anniversary of the end of World War II, standing so that their bodies were completely exposed should anyone want to take a shot. The nation was fearful from a terrorist attack, but they showed did their job with courage. As an American, I have never seen our Heads of State ever take such risk.

by Anonymousreply 84March 15, 2020 9:19 PM

by Anonymousreply 90March 15, 2020 10:49 PM

That asshole Tony Blair should've let the Queen keep Brittania, she loved that ship. After her death, it could've been decommisioned. There was no pressing need for it to be taken away from her.

by Anonymousreply 91March 15, 2020 10:54 PM

Out of idle curiosity, I googled "Queen Mother smoking" to see whether the old bad ever smoked in public. All that came up were pictures of Princess Margaret with a cig in her hand, making her fabulous couture smell like death and ashes.

Princess Margaret died of a stroke, and yes, smoking is known it greatly increase a person's risk for having strokes.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 92March 15, 2020 10:56 PM

Margaret was also a raging alcoholic, which also causes strokes. The combination of cigs and booze really did her in.

The Queen is not a HRH she is HRM, Her Royal Majesty. A Poster upstream misused those initials. The Queen does accept money from the British govt/people, but she generates and actually gives back more money than she and her family cost.

by Anonymousreply 99March 16, 2020 2:40 AM

She is HM. There is no R.

Verbal Address

Use ‘Your Majesty’ for the first time and subsequently ‘Ma’am’. This should always rhyme with ‘lamb’. Pronunciation to rhyme with ‘palm’ has not been correct for some generations.

In conversation, refer to ‘Her Majesty’ or ‘The Queen’, as appropriate. ‘Your Majesty’ should be substituted for ‘you’. References to other members of the Royal Family are made to ‘His (or Her) Royal Highness’ or the appropriate title, such as the Duke of Edinburgh or the Princess Royal.

On Being Presented to The Queen

Introductions to the Royal Family are known as presentations. When presenting another person to The Queen it is only necessary to state the name of the person to be presented: ‘Your Majesty, may I present Mr John Smith?’.

There was an episode of The Crown that dealt with Jackie Kennedy not calling her Your Majesty, for the very reason that she was not one of her subjects.

But then someone reported to the Queen something snarky Jackie had said about her, and Jackie was mortified. She came back to London just to apologize to her, and then she called her "your Majesty," which, of course, Liz found amusing but endearing.

by Anonymousreply 117March 17, 2020 3:13 AM

by Anonymousreply 136March 17, 2020 10:01 PM

The BRF have been around enough to when they are being respected or disrepected. They have long since given up on tiny violations of protocol to people who probably don't know the details. The most recent famous case was when Michelle Obama put her arm around HM's back and instead of having Michelle beheaded, HM responded in kind.

R138 That was cringe.

by Anonymousreply 139March 18, 2020 3:26 AM

I'll bet Her Majesty secretly loved the candid warmth Michele showed for her. I really do think so.

by Anonymousreply 140March 18, 2020 3:46 AM

i agree, r146. They both withdrew their arms when they realized their protocol faux pas, but I think both were sincere.

by Anonymousreply 141March 18, 2020 4:08 AM

It's well established they are mutually fond. Chemistry, apparently.

In all seriousness, the Brits would be devastated if something happened to her; Boris seems to be trying to outdo Dump in the incompetence department so QEII getting the virus would push them over the edge. She needs to stay well & create video taped messages to tell everyone to keep calm & carry on - not expose herself to unnecessary risk.

by Anonymousreply 145March 18, 2020 5:05 PM

I was just thinking...if the Queen dies of the corona virus, the crowds would not be allowed to view her casket or attend her funeral at this time. That would be an unfortunate and shitty send off after her lifetime of public service.

by Anonymousreply 146March 18, 2020 5:09 PM

[quote]R124 JFK, on the other hand, at leasts attempts but gets it wrong, saying "Your Royal Majesty."

R139 Citizen Betty Windsor was lucky to be that close to Michelle. It was probably one of the highlights of her last fifty years.

by Anonymousreply 148March 18, 2020 6:08 PM

Seriously, has the queen addressed the nation about the pandemic?

She really should, she should tell them to shelter in place and keep their spirits up and be decent about it all, and that this too shall pass. She's the one public figure who could say things like that without being ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 149March 18, 2020 9:08 PM

Sorry but she is an avoidant coward-- look at how she dealt with Diana's death, the Sparkle debacle, etc. She will not address the pandemic any time soon.

by Anonymousreply 150March 18, 2020 10:12 PM

R149 That's easy to say to a nation of mostly poor people, when your entire existence has been partially funded by taxpayers and you live in the very literal sense of the lap of luxury, while the rest of the country have their entire lives upended by a virus, with very little protection from the government.

by Anonymousreply 151March 18, 2020 10:21 PM

They should turn Sandringham into a sanatorium for coronavirus patients. Didn't many grand houses get turned into hospitals/rehabs/residences for military in WWII?

by Anonymousreply 152March 18, 2020 10:23 PM

The Queen Mother's childhood home was used as a place for wounded soldiers to convalesce in WWI. Elizabeth Bowes-Lyons nursed them even though she was only a teenager at the time. It would be a nice gesture for the royal family to open up some of their palaces and castles to patients and ease the burden on the NHS.

by Anonymousreply 153March 18, 2020 10:30 PM

[quote]They should turn Sandringham into a sanatorium for coronavirus patients. Didn't many grand houses get turned into hospitals/rehabs/residences for military in WWII?

Yes and also in WWI. Highclere Castle, the palatial estate pictured in Downton Abby did this. Also the Russian royals with some of their estates during the revolution and the young Duchesses served as nurses.

by Anonymousreply 154March 18, 2020 11:05 PM

We have a lot of buildings more suitable for conversion into temporary hospitals, using crumbling old mansions miles from anywhere doesn't make sense when we have hundreds of unused concert venues.

by Anonymousreply 155March 18, 2020 11:17 PM

[quote]Seriously, has the queen addressed the nation about the pandemic?

She should - or Prince Charles and Camilla or Andrew, even.

by Anonymousreply 156March 18, 2020 11:59 PM

[quote]Seriously, has the queen addressed the nation about the pandemic?

She most certainly will when she is instructed to do so by her government.

One More Time: The Queen does not rule, she reigns.

Per Merrian Webster Dictionary:

Reign:

: to hold office as chief of state although possessing little governing power

// in England the sovereign reigns but does not rule

R156 Prince William has and launched an appeal.

by Anonymousreply 158March 19, 2020 12:08 AM

R155, old mansions and castles should be converted to temporary hospitals before concert venues. the old houses have bedrooms and plumbing and are easier to fit for human habitation, while all you can do with a concert hall is pull out the seats and put in cots more than six feet of each other for miserable emergency treatment.

Of course there's a chance that concert halls full of cots will actually be needed, but they should start with places designed for human habitation.

by Anonymousreply 159March 19, 2020 12:12 AM

I think that it's up to Boris Johnson to authorize and request that the Queen make a statement, which apparently he has not.

by Anonymousreply 160March 19, 2020 12:16 AM

mansions and castles should be converted to temporary hospitals before concert venues. the old houses have bedrooms and plumbing and are easier to fit for human habitation,

I know a place that's recently been remodeled & is currently vacant - FROGGY COTTAGE!

I call dips on the copper tub!

by Anonymousreply 161March 19, 2020 12:17 AM

Mansions and Castles would be impossible to staff and clean (probably wouldn't have an adequate power supply either).

Nice idea but not workable with modern hospital equipment and hygiene standards.

by Anonymousreply 162March 19, 2020 12:21 AM

Can I come, Mother?

by Anonymousreply 163March 19, 2020 12:34 AM

From a PR perspective, now's the time for the royals to do something. Make some kind of sacrifice, do some work (beyond speeches/visits), whatever. The Queen Mum and HM still get praise for what they did during WWII.

by Anonymousreply 164March 19, 2020 6:00 AM

R164 That would be smart on the BRF, especially if they want to continue to exist in the UK. They should be proving why their still necessary to exist as a monarchy.

But they probably won't though.

by Anonymousreply 165March 19, 2020 6:08 AM

R117, you apparently don't know none of that ever happened. It was totally made-up CROWN bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 166March 19, 2020 6:15 AM

Jackie Kennedy is a bigger icon then the "Queen" could ever hope to be. It's like Marilyn Monroe, she's been dead for nearly 60 years, and people still cannot keep her name out of their mouth.

Whenever we get a new First Lady, the Jackie Kennedy comparisons always start up. That doesn't happen with the so called "Queen."

Jackie is a global icon who will be well remembered long after the "Queen" is gone. The Kennedy brand is much bigger anyway.

by Anonymousreply 167March 19, 2020 6:22 AM

Yes, dear R167.

by Anonymousreply 168March 19, 2020 6:24 AM

The BRF has of late shown itself as outdated, closed, selfish, useless, parasitic, heartless, moribund, and ugly. The sussexes are smart to have bailed. It took an american to introduce new ideas in the British monarchy.

by Anonymousreply 169March 19, 2020 6:28 AM

You’re not very bright, are you, R167?

by Anonymousreply 170March 19, 2020 6:30 AM

r169 dear, the BRF are not reality show stars. The Queen has done an exemplary job in her role. Charles, William and Kate do their roles very well, also. Meghan Markle is a shameless grifter and had no interest in the BRF as an institution, in Britain or its' people. They're all glad she's fucked off halfway around the world.

by Anonymousreply 171March 19, 2020 6:31 AM

[quote] The Queen has done an exemplary job in her role.

R171 I do not think so. Not a comment on Brexit. Entertains Trump. Goes along with Johnson on proroguing parliament. All quiet on the Andrew front. All without a comment on behalf of the people as a nation and under the guise of the monarchy’s supposed role. What role. The UK will break up because of the old biddy though she’ll probably croak right before and poor Charles will he left dealing with the fuckedupness. Yeap they are but a reality show of dodgy hollow pageantry now that you bring it up.

by Anonymousreply 172March 19, 2020 6:50 AM

[quote]Not a comment on Brexit. Entertains Trump. Goes along with Johnson on proroguing parliament.

You are a fucking idiot who knows nothing about the role of the monarchy. The Queen is a figurehead and cannot refuse to meet people or voice her opinions on anything. The British Monarch reigns, but does not rule.

by Anonymousreply 173March 19, 2020 6:52 AM

[quote] You are a fucking idiot who knows nothing about the role of the monarchy.

Yawn. We’ve been hearing this ad nauseum. You’ve just been weaned on this nonsense that serves the people naught. We ain’t buying it no more.

by Anonymousreply 174March 19, 2020 6:56 AM

r174 the monarchy has a very specific role in the government. The Queen couldn't give her opinion on Brexit or anything else. She is required to meet with heads of state that you personally do not like.

by Anonymousreply 175March 19, 2020 6:57 AM

Uh huh.

by Anonymousreply 176March 19, 2020 7:04 AM

No matter the citizenship, protocol is usually followed by initially addressing the Queen as "Your Majesty". The Queen is not an American citizen, yet she addresses presidents of the United States as "Mr. President". In public, even the Queen of Denmark and the Queen of the UK address each other as "Your Majesty". Privately, they are Lillibet and Daisy to each other.

American Presidents and First Ladies customarily greet Queens (and Kings) as "Your Majesty", but don't follow with the usual "Ma'am" or "Sir" as would citizens of countries with monarchies. The Reagans, the Bushes, and the Obamas greeted Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip as "Your Majesty" and "Your Royal Highness", and would address them as "Queen Elizabeth" and "Prince Philip" for the rest of their visit.

Only one head of state ever addressed the Queen as "Elizabeth" and that was Nelson Mandela, but she was "Your Majesty" at each first greeting by him and he always referred to her as "Her Majesty" when speaking to others.

by Anonymousreply 177March 19, 2020 7:49 AM

I hear screwing the Queen is like fucking a purse.

by Anonymousreply 178March 19, 2020 10:01 AM

Royals and their court have always fled London to another palace or country estate during times of plague, diseases, etc...

Back in the day it would have been smallpox, the sweating sickness, cholera, typhoid, plague, and so on.

if they didn't own an estate to stay outright, local noble was informed to prepare his home for a royal visit (along with court) who would stay at His (or Her) Majesty's pleasure.

by Anonymousreply 179March 19, 2020 11:12 AM

Buckingham Palace is basically an office building, full of worker drones. Getting away to the country must be a great relief, even Sandringham.

by Anonymousreply 180March 19, 2020 11:17 AM

The Queen has her "dorgi" for comfort during this difficult time.

"There are reports that Prince William will be step in to her role during the corona virus crisis. "

Very sensible. Charles is over seventy and not in the best of health, he should be sequestered just like HM and Phillip.

Plus, havin

by Anonymousreply 183March 19, 2020 3:30 PM

Bugger!

Plus, having William step up and take a public role is the best thing for the institution of the monarchy. Because there's no way in hell Charles will ever be a popular king, the Palace's best bet to keep going is to make William look good.

Harry's made that a lot easier.

by Anonymousreply 190March 19, 2020 5:21 PM

That's not true, R188! Per their Instagram, Meghan and Harry are taking a leadership role in this health crisis. The resources and information that they provide will help us all to protect our physical and mental well-being. I, for one, feel comforted knowing that these two humanitarians are working tirelessly on our behalf!

by Anonymousreply 191March 19, 2020 5:41 PM

I agree, R191. Just knowing that Meghan and Harry are there with us and for us meant so much to my recovery.

And when I say "there" for us I mean, of course, their secret lair on a private portion of Vancouver Island's ultra-gated community.

It makes me feel like the princess is right here in my sick room.

If I weren't restrained I could give her a clear sense of how much I love her.

by Anonymousreply 192March 19, 2020 5:46 PM

[R171] The Queen has done an exemplary job in her role. Charles, William and Kate do their roles very well, also.

Which consist(s) of occasionally walking around in public, with swarms of bodyguards.

How much is she donating to help her country?
