Buying in Bulk
The great 2020 toilet paper crisis has me thinking...isn't buying in bulk smart?
I don't have shelves and shelves, but I always buy the 12 packs of toilet paper when I need it. Poop is a fact of life and it doesn't expire, so why not buy a few month's worth as opposed to running to the store every few weeks? Luckily I noticed I was getting low a few weeks ago and bought it.
Same with paper towels and garbage bags. I usually get the 40 bag roll of trash bags and stick it under the sink. It may last me a while but why not?
The only thing I buy weekly-ish is food.
What say DL about household staples?

It's surprising to me how many people I know are low on toilet paper.

I think I'd hate to see what your warehouse, I mean - house, looks like.

R2 as a gay person you should know what closets are like. My bathroom has one.

It's probably smart to stock up on things you know you'll need in case you're exposed to COVID-19 and need to stay at home for a couple of weeks. But my philosophy is that if the supply chain collapses and there are dangerous shortages, there are going to be gangs going around kicking down doors and taking whatever they want. So hoarding as an end to itself is not a good strategy.

My neighbor and his idiot brother eat almost every meal out. They are screwed.

As soon as I was old enough to drive, I was assigned the job of shopping for the five of us, so I am accustomed to buying in bulk, or the large sizes of things, such as mouthwash, as an example. It’s cheaper to do so. Now, I only shop for myself, and I still buy in bulk. I have plenty of closet space. When I personally did the shopping, it reduced my trips to the big grocery store. Now, I get dry goods delivered, and it reduces appointments to meet the grocery delivery man. He carries everything up three flights, too, and I tip accordingly.
I gave one delivery man a gift bag of chocolates at Christmas, and he was astonished, and then he cried a little. “No one does this.” He said. “Well, people are jerks.” I replied. He was a gay guy.
So now I only need to get fresh food: vegetables, fruit, meat, and I can walk to smaller markets to do that. My primary reason to buy in bulk is convenience, I less shopping trips and I never run out of things: my secondary reason is to save money.

Oh, when I was 16 and buying in bulk for the family, with [italic] two [/italic] full shopping carts, I could slip in a six-pack of bear and not get carded. The drinking age was 18 then, 😝.

R6 EXACTLY A 12 pack of TP fits perfectly under the sink and it's usually cheaper. Why buy toilet paper every few weeks when you can buy it every few months?

it is very strange. the hoarding. toilet paper isn't a necessity of life as food and water are. people were disappointed that y2k didnt take us all out and are still praying for that final moment, even doing everything to make it happen.

Just be smart. I had things like lysol in the bottle and spray lysol before this crap even started. I'm just a lot more careful about how its used now. You only need to use a capful or two in a bucket of water to clean the floors. I used to use a lot more than that. People have no idea how much to use to clean, and they hate reading directions so they use a lot more than they should be.

I also stocked-up on wild bird food. Peanuts for the Blue Jays; and seeds in lard for the sparrows, Downy Woodpecker, and the other guys.
